I just discovered a privacy issue I was too stupid to know about beforehand

I was talking to an on line friend while I was under a chat account of this same screen name. During the conversation he started working in some situations and info about me involving escorts that would be impossible for anyone to know about. Needless to say, I was freaked out. Luckily he is someone I have spoken to for a while now and he was honest with me about how he knew these things.

He merely typed in 'jstlooknthx' in google and all my posts I ever wrote on this site were there to read. Dating back to 2003. Kind of heart stopping to now realize that anybody who knows me by this name might have done the same and I will never know about it.

So, when I first joined this site I really knew nothing about computers or on line safety issues. I didn't realize you could google this name and track where ever it's been on the internet. The good news is that it's more of a play account and not my professional, friends and family name. The one thing I don't understand it why is this the only site that appears? I have used it in other free sites and there is no info appearing. The justin.tv account that shows is not me. My friend on line told me it is up to the site to control the privacy issues. I'm doubting this is true but I'm putting it out there in case any of you have any information to help.

I'm thinking it all over now and I really don't see a way to undo this. I tried slightly changing the chat account name but I lose every world wide contact I've had since 2000 and it's a lot of people.

Suggestions? Just want to be CLEAR to Daddy and friends that this is not an accusation or me trying to stir up trouble. It's just a rude awakening or me and I'm looking for help. Thanks guys.

Not news to me. I use the same handle on every site i belong to going back to 1997 and my handles pulls up most sites and youtube videos and everything on here, I don't really care.

well

Unless you use your real name (even that is not sufficient because someone might have the same name) you don't really have to worry about it. Let's say I have ryan20 as an account ID, some other guy might have that same ID for other sites. I don't think you don't have to worry about it unless you intentionally let others know that the ID belongs to you for a specific site. I remember your post about you've never hired an escort so I don't think you have to worry either.

There's no such thing as total privacy these days especially related to the internet. Don't over react to this issue. I agree with Greatness, there's nothing to worry about unless you've told others about your ID. Try doing a search for your own work e-mail account. You'd be surprised where that can show up sometimes.

lol I remember years ago back in 97 I even used my first and last name on most sites. Back then we all thought its only the internet its not even real no one that matters will ever see it. I even had face pics up on gay com for about 6 months b4 i ever came out. back then i figured hell if anyone see's them they would have to explain why they were in there too. then about 2 years ago i found out stuff on boards was indexed into google and yahoo. now with myspace and facebook and twitter i think privacy is mostly a thing of the past

Case in point - I just googled the name i use here and also found lots of posts on some message boards discussing religion.

Still - I'm glad I've never used this name in an email address or anywhere else.

I just Goggled my screen name and much to my surprise, only one posting appeared---one that had to do with a back and forth about Crocs, of all things.

I'm curious---can anyone explain why only one of my over 500 posts appeared?

When I googled your name, there was a message at the bottom of the page that not all results had been included. When i selected the link to "repeat the search with the omitted results included", many more of your posts were retrieved.

I know that some search engines treat alphabet/number combinations differently than words.

For the record a Google search of whipped guy yielded almost 3 million results... with over 400,000 relating to whipped guy jokes... when searched as "whipped guy" there were over 20,000 results. Interestingly there were over a million results pointing to whipped guy videos... some of which are literal and others figurative... Likewise there are well over a million results pointing to whipped guy pictures... Now this w g has had action shots posted online... but given the odds I doubt that they would be easy to locate.

Well that's what I'm wondering about. Why do some of you show up and others don't? Why is this the only site my name and posts show up from? Also, Google is the only search site that I show up on. Not Bing or Yahoo etc.

It's just funny that you have to register and sign in to participate on this site but anyone who knows your handle can read every comment you've ever made. Oh well...too late to worry about it now I guess. It was just a jolt at first.

Maybe I'm old school, but I don't discuss my private life with just anybody at all. I come to this forum because of the level of honestly and comradery I get from it. I always figured much of this was based on it being a private forum.

On the more overtly public review section of Daddy's site...

Interestingly my review handle is different and a Google search of that five years ago would have yielded first page results... but alas time marches on and in the past few years I am buried way down somewhere in the 350,000 results.

This has never been a private forum. You must register to post, but everyone can read your posts.

Google's spiders are unrelenting. When we came back online after the last vacation, Daddy was giddy at the number of visitors on the site within the first ten minutes until he realized that three of them were Google, Bing, and Yahoo. What they display in a search is a complicated and proprietary algorithm -- it won't be the same for all search topics and it will vary by search engine. (Manipulating Google search results is almost a cottage industry known as Googlewhacking.)

But one of the dirty little secrets of the internet in general is that anything you put online is available to be found by anyone looking hard enough for it, eventually. (This is where most celebrity sex tapes come from.) Facebook is seemingly in perpetual trouble for privacy violations because they didn't (and seemingly still don't) make privacy an important part of internal culture.

If you don't want it found, don't put it on the internet. That rule will never change.

Thanks Deej. I know, I know. Lesson learned. I now realize trying to be 'clever' with a screen name can make you much more easy to find also. I understand there is nothing I can do about past posts, but perhaps I should change my name in here now, as not to match any other existing accounts I have? How would I do that?

Couple of thoughts on changing your ID.

You currently have a five-year history, and a clean one at that. We've seen how new posters here are sometimes (mis)treated. Changing your ID here won't change your posting history, so one wonders if it would be productive when you're using the same ID elsewhere. If you really want to, just create a new ID and start using it. Once it's up and running send a PM or email to Daddy asking your old ID be closed. Of course, if you ever mention that you used to be "that other ID" then Google will index it and you'll be linked so it'll be a total waste of time and effort. ;)

If you're really interested, we can "merge" your posts under the old ID to the new ID. That won't change Google (or Bing, or Yahoo) cache entries or remove you from the search engines, or the WayBack machine, but it's an option. (And I mention this with trepidation because it's an option we haven't yet tested in the new version of the board software.)

Either way, the first step is creating a new ID for yourself.

Your choice.

All pretty spooky indeed, Justlookin'.

I once searched on another of my identities and found a zillion matches. It took my breath away considering that I used it for my personal emails, too. I thought about some future employer using my email address to search for me being naughty, and was relieved to remember that they were none with anything adult or racy (just somewhat obnoxious at times, maybe).

In any case, when I go job-searching I plan to use yet another email identity, just to be safe.

In your case, it sounds like you, too, kept your identity here from anyone who doesn't need to know about your history in this world.

And if anyone asks, I've never heard of you. :D

Just what's to say it won't happen again with a New Name? I'd go with something real simple and get lost in the crowd! A crowd is always a safe place to hangout.

I just googled "poolboy21409" and not only did this site pop up but all the reviews I have done for underwear on freshpair.com also appeared.

I once googled my favorite escorts phone number and all his ads on escort sites popped up. He uses his same cell phone for "regular" stuff that he uses for escort business. So if you googled his "regular phone" number, all the escorts ads popped up. He didn't seem to mind when I advised him of this even though he has a very regular and high up W-2 position!!

Thank god I am "retired" ...but shit don't have as much disposable income to spend on the "guys". Flipping burgers at McD to pay for my fun!!
