Love Letters from a 12 Year Old

Apparently any combination of two brothers 12 & 13 years old and an adult male killed the boy's father about a year ago in Florida. The brothers now 13 & 14 originally confessed, now blame the adult male who happens to be a convicted sex offender.

 

As if the above isn't distrubing enough the 12 year old is in love with the adult male. In part one of his letters states, "Before I met Rick I was strate (sic) but now I am gay." When you were a 12 year old did you think in terms of straight and gay (not did you know you were gay, I'm asking about the use of the terms)? I knew I liked to have sex with boys (my age) when I was 12 yet had no idea that this meant anything more than that.

The second page of the letters states: "Biography, Do Not Read." So I didn't go further.

Why these letters are available to the public confounds me. It only seems to perpetuate the assault on a young boy.

Well, in what year were you 12? This is 2002 and kids know these terms. Derek and I have a 5 year old niece who knows we're gay and married to each other. A gay kid or teen today could definitely know he/she's gay.

It just seems odd to me that a 12 year old understands one moment he was straight then the next he is gay and in love with an adult male.

 

I am not intentionally trying to pass judgment on the young boy related to the criminal charges against him and his brother. Also, I'm not intentionally trying to make a moral judgment about him, yet I can see how my statemenet might be taken that way.

 

I was simply looking for how others felt about these events? It's apparent that he is a disturbed youth who needs assistance not endless confinement.

Remember that he was lusted after and housed / protected by a predatory gay man. It isn't hard to imagine that freethinking and indoctrination may overlap with him. :-(

This whole case make me very, very angry. From what I've read (there was a front page article in the New York Times that included a picture of one of the brothers, testifying in court, with one hand handcuffed to the witness stand), it sounds like this whole tragedy is the result of both boys being victimized by a pedophile. x( Sadly, this is not the first time that this has happened. x( We had a similar case here in New Jersey a couple of years ago. A young teenager was victimized by some sicko who he met online. He was further victimized by both the courts (a judge refused his parents pleas to have him committed) and the system (the prosecutor's office used him in their sting operation against the pedophile). x( He claimed to be in love with the pedophile and refused to testify against him at the trial. (The pedophile eventually plead guilty to reduced charges.) He wound up killing some poor kid who was going door to door selling candy and gift wrap for a school fund raiser. He eventually plead guilty and is going to serve a long prison sentence. I very much doubt if he'll ever get the help that he so desperately needs. x(

 

The two brothers in this case obviously need help. The pedophile who abused them needs to be cut into little pieces. Florida's infamous defective electric chair is too good for him!

The people who run Court TV have no shame. Nor does the judge who allowed this case to be televised. Nor does the DA who is trying these kids as adults.

Well as it is happening in Jeb Bush country, very little surprises me.

 

And the fact that the pedophile was gay will no doubt become a lightning rod for all sorts of homophobic nuts.

This whole thing is so fucked up. You dont suppose this has anything to do with the gay adoption debate going on in Florida. Its pretty obvious that these kids are not going to be charged by a jury. So why is Florida bothering? Maybe its to make all gay men out to be pedophiles that should be kept away from children. I think it may be meant to send the message that gay men will make little boys into murderers. Court TV on the otehr hand needs a good smacking!

Yeah right. She had a unanimous rating of "highly qualified" from that liberal cesspool, the American Bar Association. First time this has ever happened. The senate fool, Leahy, will get his comeuppance soon enough. Pres. Kerry or Edwards or whomever won't get a single nominee through the senate. I don't believe that this is quite what the founding fathers thought of the phrase advise and consent.

As I'm sure you all know the King brothers have been found gulity of second degree murder and arson. The adult male R Chavez was found not guilty of murder and arson.

 

I didn't follow the trial so I cannot really comment on the verdicts. I was a little suprized to hear the attorney state he had no problem with either verdict and did not feel strongly that R Chavez was a "principal." Then why put the guy on trial for murder? Could it be because he is a convicted sex offender?

 

No one really won and it appears the system worked by saving one man from being wrongly convicted.

 

Now we are left with two very troubled teenagers facing life in prison. And R Chavez facing obstruction of justice charges. The entire case is very distrubing

These two cute white boys got exactly what was coming to them. They intentionally killed another person, their father, without regard to any consequences. Then they tried to cover up the murder by trying to burn down their home. To add to their minpulative woes they tried to take advantage of a pedophile because of what he is not what he might or might not have done with them.... they claimed he killed their father. This after both confessed to the crime knew the details of the crime and had gasoline on their shoes. Really a sad state of affairs.

 

I don't care much about their age I care about their actions.

I'm not sure it is reasonable to say that caring about age versus actions needs to be mutually exclusive.

 

If age isn't relevant, then why not seat this kids in "Old Sparky" and fry them? As far as I know, Florida law would allow that. Of course that won't happen (and I'm glad) because it would shock the sensibilities of the voting public and while politicians want to look "tough on crime", they know they can only go so far when it comes to children. If I heard correctly, I think these boys are facing 30 years to life as it is.

 

In no way do I think there shouldn't be some measure of accountability for criminal behavior, especially when it involves

murder. There certainly appears to be a host of mitigating factors involved in this case, not the least of which is the rather sordid home environment these boys came from. Living in a society where violence is glorified, packaged and sold, even to children (violent video games and movie fare come to mind) why are we shocked when something like this happens? When we sow the seeds of violence and destruction, how can we be surprised to reap the whirlwind? When we put out the cultural message that violence is ok in entertainment, and when we continue to patronize violent films or buy those video games for our children, are we not somehow complicit in creating this kind of atmosphere? Sex is so much better than violence, but our convoluted puritan politicians haven't recognized that fact, or won't. As long as there is a profit to be made in selling violence, and the public continues to crave it, we're destined to see more of the same.

See here is an area I know well. He hasn't been charged as yet with anything other than obstruction of justice in regard to this case. The murder and arson charges were dismissed. He is a previously convicted sex offender and he might be charged with having sex with one or both of the brothers yet there is no eveidence, physicl or verbal that shows there was any sexual involvement. Even when the brothers recanted their story they did not claim any sexual involvement with him that I am aware of. The letters would indicate this however, again to the best of my knowledge only the obstruction charges remain. He will be found guilty on these and becuase of this case involving the brothers who are so young, he will get the max. That we can all count on.
