Rue McClanahan best known from the golden girls, maude and moma's family has died

She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning," her manager, Barbara Lawrence, tells PEOPLE. She had a massive stroke."

wow.. it seems like three of the four golden girls have all passed away in a short period of time. Betty White is the last one remaining....

Blanche Devereaux will live on forever... We will miss you Rue...

So sad to hear this. I loved each of the Golden Girls ... such a classic that we will enjoy for years to come. The older I get, the harder I laugh.

I must say I was surprised this past weekend when I happened to watch "The Fighting Temptations" and found that Rue had a bit part. I much prefer her front and center as Blanche!

Blanche was the best. I hate to be maudlin about this but this is a day to rue. Yes, pun intended but sorry to say a sad one.

Best regards,

KMEM

Very Sad to read! :( R.I.P. Great Lady!

Your sentiments are mine, also! Earlier when I opened my e page and noted the mention of her death along with a pic-- I began to think of "The Golden Girls" and the other two women who have also died. All three will long be remembered by those of us who viewed their sitcom weekly and for years!

Though The Golden Girls was certainly great fun, I more fondly remember both Rue and Bea from "Maude," where I was first introduced both of these extraordinary ladies when I was a kid. So, though Blanche was fabulous, I also want to pay tribute to McClanahan's wonderfully crazy Vivian Harmon. (And hoping that sooner, rather than later, the rest of "Maude," beyond season 1, gets released on DVD...)

Odd how things intersect, as well - Conrad Bain, who played Rue's husband Arthur on "Maude," was of course more popularly known as Gary Coleman's adoptive dad on "Different Strokes." Bain has now lost 2 of his co-stars in the last 2 weeks. :-(

Of course Bain also costarred with Dixie Carter who played his wife on Different Strokes for one or two seasons

Of course, we also loved her as Peggy, the naughty matriarch of the Ingram clan, in Sordid Lives!

When asked to compare "Blanche" with herself, McClanahan said "Blanche is a sex-driven southern belle from Atlanta. I am not from Atlanta."

Thank you for being a friend.

Blanche Devereaux was the Golden Girls Samantha Jones only with a touch of Southern class and charm. With her snappy remarks and comebacks, she was my favorite on the show and will be greatly missed!

Rue didn't want a funeral...

Brief article regarding her Rue's recent health decline and final wishes: http://blog.zap2it.com/thedishrag/2010/06/rue-mcclanahan-taken-off-of-life-support-by-son-mark-bish-says-husband-morrow-wilson.html

"She had a living will saying if she were brain dead, they should pull the plug, but the hospital waited for her son Mark to fly in and make the final decision," Morrow says. He also notes that Rue did not want a funeral service.

Apparently, Betty White's wicked sense of humor surfaced several months ago when Rue suffered her first stroke. Mental Floss reported:

When fellow Golden Girl Rue McClanahan was hospitalized after having a stroke earlier this year, a friend of Rue's reported that Betty had sent a "Don't Get Well" card that said something along the lines of, "Dear Rue, I hope you hurry up and die so I can be the last Golden Girl left. NOT KIDDING." Rue apparently got a huge kick out of it.
