I look at the departure announcements here as signs that there is something troubling the poster about the site. Some who announce they are leaving, leave. Some that announce they are leaving, find that the annoyances they had on the site are smaller than it appeared and the enjoyment they got from the site was greater than it appeared and they return. I believe people are being honest when they say they are leaving, just as I am being honest when I say: I am going to lose 20 pounds before I eat another dessert. Whether I wind up svelte or fat with whipped cream on my chin, I am being honest about my intent.

I am not surprised that Lucky is back, but I think we will be seeing less and less of him. Certainly judging by the hyperbole, ChgoBoy's post seems designed to try to make that a reality.

To announce a departure then suddenly return with gusto is somewhat over-the-top so to speak. At a minimum, an "about face" is certainly puzzling.

If I did decide to come back to the forums, one thing I would have to endure is the insistent stalking by one poster who has nothing positive to add, but rather goes about criticizing. I take comfort in the fact that if it were not me, it would be someone else. Remember all the crap he took when he went after a new poster with such venom? My fellow posters recognize him for what he is, and that will make it much easier to ignore his ramblings.

Sure, the volume of your posts is waaay down, but before the farewell had even cooled, you were back. And here you are again. Kinda made/makes me feel like I was/am being played. At the very least, I hope you can recognize the confusion you are causing.

In your farewell, you positioned yourself on the high road, and made a point to not get drawn into unnecessary catcalls with those whom you imagine are against you. And yet here you are, just a few weeks later participating in exactly that type of behaviour.

Please, make up your mind. If you wish to take the high road, take it. But that means not dropping in to take swipes at those you said you were't going to swipe against.

Personally, I think you have occasionally misconstrued the intent of some other posters. Perhaps it's your legal background that leads you to think in combative terms of win/lose.

Again, I haven't yet found one person here who hasn't posted at least something of value at sometime. There are clearly some who try my patience more than others, but they still have the right to their POV.

 

Lucky, you have made an outstanding contribution to the forums in the short time that I have been around. The depth and breadth of your posts is truly amazing. But one of the key benefits of the forum that I enjoy most is the ability to listen to other points of view, and to allow the ebb and flow of discussion (and kibbitzing) to just occur, without attempting to direct it. Somedays I agree with more. Somedays I agree with less. But every day is interesting enough to keep me coming back for more.

 

Since joining I must admit that I've been somewhat perplexed by your personna. When you are good, you are very very good, but when you are bad, you've been quite horrid. Not to me personally, but certainly to other posters. And if anyone points that out to you, somehow they become the badguy.

 

My experience with those around whom I must tiptoe for fear of being on the wrong side of their wrath, leads me to stear clear when I see evidence of such behaviour. And I've seen it here, with you.

 

Truly, I have no dog in this hunt. My preference is that you---and all other posters, also---be happy. If we can't make peace among ourselves here, what chance to we have in the bigger world outside?

If you don't feel that is possible by continuing to post, then that's really unfortunate. Both for you, who clearly got something out of this activity over the past 10 years, and for many of us, who enjoy your knowledge on several fronts.

And if you do decide to continue to post, that's great. I know I will appreciate it.

Funny If there was one thing I never saw it was Lucky making a cry for attention. Though I do address his in and out chenanagins below. But a cry for attention, Many of us maybe but nah its not his style. cynical and dry sure at times. Even bull headed and stubborn but honest to his convictions and witty as well. and usually heartfelt with an attitude not to do harm but to educate or make others challenge their own thoughts. Sorry boys im never one to walk in lock step with any brigade yours or his, just what I have seen. If someone has a campaign at times we have all seen it and usually they would be the last to deny it. Well you boyz are no different and I think we all see that too.

 

Really the constant attacks for no better reason than the attack. well its kind of getting old. No. Just how a constant annoyance on one issue can sometimes make great movements. You may be enjoying the out of doors quite a bit but that one annoying little fly just bothers you enough that you move the party inside.

 

Now if you have a particular offense you want to air I agree air it. We defend because we do not see a grievance for which you continually follow around Lucky making snide remarks. If there is an offense which you believe he needs defend himself from.... Fine...... please let us know and air the dirty laundry.

Moderator

 

Thanks to those who have responded with suggestions and constructive criticism. I was not trying to pose a hamlet dilemma about coming back. I am happy to come back. What I had hoped to do was resolve once and for all the question of being a moderator. Once that was decided to my satisfaction, then I felt that I was in a position to return.

I had asked Daddy to take me off of moderator status as the Arts Forum requires so little moderation. I announce my retirement as a moderator but it was ignored since I am still listed as one. What I learned was that being a moderator only meant that any problems I found I would turn over to deej, and he would decide the result. I hardly felt that I need to involve myself in that since deej was perfectly capable of doing that himself without my assistance. Once daddy removes me from the moderator position, then I can go back to being Lucky without being a part of the "administration." If he doesn't remove me, then I can return and just not moderate, but I would prefer that my request be honored.
