Pity you won't be there during fall colors. At the southern end of the Shenandoah Valley, the Blacksburg area is spectacular that time of year. It's pretty the rest of the year but is at its best in the fall.

 

It is, however, rural Virginia at rural Virginia's most rural. It's a college town so there will be plenty of eye candy. But anything remotely resembling fun will likely be WELL below the radar, and the locals probably won't be overly trusting of outsiders.

oh man, I wouldn't downplay Blacksburg THAT much...it IS the home of a major university, so I presume the wheel, electricity, and horseless carriages have been introduced recently....hell, maybe even the internet....

 

however, a good friend graduated from Tech and does say some of the local residents are a good bit redneck and hick.....

 

you may have to resort to PPV on your hotel TV, I'd guess...you could try craigslist and see if the local students post anything.....as instudiocity says, campus groups may offer some insight.... maybe a visit down to Charlotte or Winston-Salem/Greensboro?

But it's still Blacksburg. Parents send their kids there because it's Blacksburg. Kids choose Va. Tech. because it's in Blacksburg.

 

Some things will be slower to change than others, and Blacksburg is one of them.

Hmmm...when I read the response from "Guyonthego" I had to wonder...I too have tried to get together with this escort...not once, but twice and both times he and I conversed nicely and consistently and yet both times he did not show up...hmm...sounds like a pattern to me.
