Fort Lauderdale now has a fifth male stripper bar, COZMOS, located at 2674 E. Oakland Boulevard. The space was formerly a disco with visiting bands and dancing. It is still under development as a male stripper bar.

The main bar is completed. Mon-Fri it is a piano bar from 5-9 p.m. Dancers come on at 9:00 p.m. seven nights a week. The night I visited, there were ten dancers, ranging from twinks to muscular, walking around in their briefs. There are currently two small platforms where dancers perform continuously. There are three private enclosures for lap dances. $25 for 6-7 minutes. To the east of this bar area is a very large room which is being worked on. Currently there is a large dance floor in the center, bar to the back, and large stage to one side. The music director told me they planned to have male revues on the large stage and strippers on several stages.

There was a good crowd the night I visited, and a younger crowd than the other stripper bars - not teens but mostly 30s. Everyone seemed to be having a good time; there was a nice buzz but not too loud. It was easy to carry on a conversation. Drinks were moderate in price.

The location is very pleasant, on the south side of Oakland Boulevard, a few blocks east of Federal Highway. Lots of free parking and no cover. This is a very nice part of the city.

There are several very good restaurants within 100 yards of pleasant walking. Directly across the street is "Frankie and Johnny's" with lots of outdoor tables. One block to the east is "Seville," a very good Spanish restaurant. Two blocks to the east along Oakland is "Las Vegas," an excellent Cuban restaurant with moderate prices. Two blocks to the west is "Hi Life," a very good restaurant on a quiet tree-lined side street. It has a primarily gay clientele, but a mixed crowd and always cute waiters. There is an excellent but expensive Chinese restaurant across the street from Cozmos. There are several other small cafes within a two block stretch on Oakland.

Cozmos is about half a mile west of Dudes, another male stripper bar. And there are a number of motels along Federal Highway here so that it would be possible to stay close by and walk to the bars or very close with a car, which is not possible with the other stripper bars in Fort Lauderdale. It looks like a very pleasant addition to Fort Lauderdale's gay life and gay entertainment. I hope they do well.

Thanks Karl-G

Thanks for this 411, Karl. It sounds like Ft. Lauderdale is the male stripper capitol of the U.S.! Can't wait to check out Cozmos on my next trip down to Florida later this summer.

Boardwalk, Cozmos, Dudes, Johnny's -- what am I missing?

Parliament House I think might be the other but not certain.

Sounds like I should do a long weekend in Ft. Lauderdale pretty soon. Just curious about one thing though. What does one do in FLL when not at the strip clubs? I'm not one to sit on the beach or spend my days shopping.

Fort Lauderdale

There's not much going on in Fort Lauderdale, kind of a sleepy southern town.

So what do you like to do?

Are you athletic? You can walk for miles along the ocean either on sand or on the sidewalk, parasail, swim, wrestle alligators, go ice skating, play tennis, golf on dozens of courses, rent a bike or motorbike and explore the city.

Enjoy art? You can go to the museums in Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton (a couple of miles north), Miami (a couple of mile south); Norton Museum in Palm Beach ( a little north); big art gallery district in Miami with dozens of fine galleries. It takes about as long to reach one of these places as it does to get to Chelsea from a mid-town hotel in NYC to look at art.

Like to explore? There is the great TRI-RAIL train which runs from Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale to Miami and is very cheap. You can park your car at a station free, hop on a train and you are in downtown Miami in a few minutes. Direct connection (just go up the escalator) to free PeopleMover Monorail which circles around downtown Miami continuously. You can hop on and off whenever you want. Great views of the city and all its new skyscrapers as well as easy access all over the city.

Try a River Cruise or Water Taxi in Fort Lauderdale, and see a beautiful side of the city you will not see otherwise.

Enjoy nature? Visit Fairchild Gardens, Flamingo Gardens, Morikami Japanese Gardens, American Orchid Society Botanical Gardens, Butterfly Gardens. And of course, there are the Everglades. Bird watching is good.

Got a hobby? Duplicate Bridge Clubs are active seven days of the week for afternoon and evening sessions. You can always pick up a partner. Fort Lauderdale has a very large, active, and friendly club not far from the bars. Community centers have dance lessons and dancing most afternoons and evenings.

Enjoy interior design and some history? Try Vizcaya Mansion or Flagler Mansion or Stranahan House or Bonnet House.

Enjoy relaxing? Try one of the many restaurant-bars along the ocean and enjoy a nice meal with a great view, sip a cocktail, and chill out til the boys come on.

Want a little more exercise? Try an escort in the morning and another in the afternoon. Lots to choose from. Lots of masseurs of both kinds as well.

Frequent noontime concerts along Riverwalk downtown, on Second Avenue SW, at the Main Public Library downtown.

Otherwise not much going on. : - )

Or else you can go deep sea fishing or scuba diving.

And if you are more macho, you can legally hunt burmese pythons and blast their heads off.
