Today's Wall Street Journal reports on a study done of men's faces, trying to determine which men were found to be more masculine by women from different countries. New research suggests that women from countries with healthier populations prefer more feminine-looking men.

Who would you pick as the more masculine guy:

I think the guy on the left looks more masculine. I also think he is better looking.

You do realize that "the guy on the left" is the same person as the image on the right! The faces were changed by the use of a computer program.

And their names have been changed to protect them from the innocents!

Thus why we're into escorts - Mr. Left and Partners - Mr. RIGHT!

Or should that be Mr. Right NOW! and Mr. Right?

I'm so confused!

I am looking at the site through the browser on

my phone so not sure if it makes a difference or not. But the 2 pictures look almost alike to me. They seem to have narrowed the face a bit and barely trimmed the eyebrows in the picture on the right. I like the picture

on the left by a very slight amount.

I wonder though how much this effect might be due to familiarity. People usually like the familiar to begin with and may have to become accustomed to the unfamiliar. So in a wealthy westernized country the men are most likely going to look more " primped" ( eyebrows, hair, etc ) than in a country with less economic resources.

thinner neck and less hint of beard.

I'd like to meet that guy on the left...the guy on the right?...not so much....

instudiocity: didn't notice the trimmer neck difference until you mentioned it...I thought only the more feminine eyes were the difference....

very interesting study....

Lucky, thanks for posting this. I went to the site and took the face test. This guy's pretty easy compared to some, who are so close in looks it was hard to make a decision. Some are good looking, some are on the unattractive side. It's a very interesting site.

You do realize the sentences would have sounded klunky had I written them as follows:

I think the guy looks more masculine in the left-side computer program-enhanced photo than he does in the right-side computer program-enhanced photo. I also think the guy is better looking when enhanced as he is in the left-side photo.

In short: yes, I do.
