If you were at my house today, you might wonder why my dogs are standing so tall , and that's because they are so proud of their distant cousin Sadie, who won the AKC Westminster Dog Show in New York last night.

Sadie became the first Triple Crown winner of dogdom. She took the National Dog Show in suburban Philadelphia in November and the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in California in December.

The Westminster is in danger of losing its reputation. It seems like only the "cute" little lapdogs have a chance. A poodle, a Scottie, a Beagle. A big, real dog has little chance, it seems. Of course we all know that the final selections are arbitrary. All the dogs are perfect to get to that point. The fiction that the selection is made on actual, objective differences is an obvious fiction. But they should spread the fiction around a bit.

Hm. Let's look. Some past Best in Show winners... 2004 -- Newfoundland. 2005 -- German Short-Haired Pointer. 2006 -- Colored Bull Terrier.

Is that Flounder Dorfman holding Sadie's lease? I thought he went into sensitivity training.
