Syphilis

I do not wish to contradict someone whom, according to one of the Twinks, has a bigger dick than my own, and I do not think I will be doing so, Deej, but my sources, including medical practitioners and on line research indicate that syphilis is "a bacterial infection spread through sexual contact or sharing of contaminated needles." This particular reference guide also defines sexual contact as "sexual intercourse or genital contact" so I do not believe kissing is contemplated.

However, I think we can all be in agreement that not all medical professionals or scientists agree. What generally exists is an agreed-upon consensus. What I recommend to my friends, my fellow escorts and to clients is to be informed, to do your own research, and to make the right decision for yourself and to behave accordingly with each and every partner, no exceptions.

Anything else puts you squarely on that "slippery slope."

Just to help clarify:

from the NIH

The incidence of syphilis has increased and decreased dramatically in recent years, with more than 11,000 cases reported in 1996. The first symptoms of syphilis may go undetected because they are very mild and disappear spontaneously. The initial symptom is a chancre; it is usually a painless open sore that usually appears on the penis or around or in the vagina. It can also occur near the mouth, anus, or on the hands.

from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

The first symptom of primary syphilis is an ulcer called a chancre ("shan-ker"). The chancre can appear within 10 days to three months after exposure, but it generally appears within two to six weeks. Because the chancre may be painless and may occur inside the body, it may go unnoticed. It usually is found on the part of the body exposed to the partner’s ulcer, such as the penis, the vulva, or the vagina. A chancre also can develop on the cervix, tongue, lips, or other parts of the body. The chancre disappears within a few weeks whether or not a person is treated. If not treated during the primary stage, about one-third of people will progress to chronic stages.

The bacterium spreads from the initial ulcer of an infected person to the skin or mucous membranes of the genital area, the mouth, or the anus of a sexual partner. It also can pass through broken skin on other parts of the body. The syphilis bacterium is very fragile, and the infection is almost always spread by sexual contact.

So...yes, you can transmit syphilis orally through kissing if one of the partners has an oral syphilitic chancre, but it is not often seen since the bacterium is so fragile. The mouth has many defenses to prevent infection.

Hope this helps a bit.

Barry :-)

What is meant by "increased and decreased" or is this a typo?

Will rinseing your mouth with hydrogen peroxide counteract the bacterium?

Good question. I pasted the statement right from the NIH site. I think it should be decreased based on the CDC graph below.

In the common 3% solution hydrogen peroxide is a weak microbiocidal at best. The foaming action you experience when used in the mouth or on a cut is simply the release of pure oxygen when HP comes in contact with catalase, an enzyme found in many organic cells. This foaming action will often loosen up contaminants in a wound making it easier to clean.

The 35% solution can be used as a industrial disinfectant but it would probably kill a person after it finished doing some really nasty things to the mouth.

Bottom line it can't hurt to rinse with HP but I certainly wouldn't count on it as protection.

Well, I guess there's also Listerine or some other mouthwash. There just aren't that many things you can put in your mouth that I know of that could be described as STRONG microbicides. The HP advice comes from a variety of AIDS prevention agencies. However, on the whole the mouth is not a very welcoming environment for STDs (with the possible exception of gonorrhea) so my guess is that even weak microbicides like HP make it very unlikely that someone would catch an STD if you gargle/rinse immediately after oral sex.

Good points trilingual. Personally I use and recommend Listerine. It is the only mouthwash classified as therapeutic; it was invented as a surgical antiseptic; it once required a prescription and has 4 antimicrobial ingredients. Each mL contains: Ethanol 0.26mL, Benzoic Acid 1.5mg, Thymol 0.63mg, Cineole (eucalyptol) 0.90mg.

Probably as good as it gets. Barry

Advice from Dr. Ready RE: Taking loads

My 2 cents: there is nothing more dangerous in the load, than what can already be found in the precum. If you've already taken a dick in your mouth, then load does not present a significant additional risk. Enjoy.

If you want to do "everything" with your partner and stay healthy, there's always...gasp...monogamy!
