What are the things that make us happy?

Money, love, friends, family or entertainment.

I think this is a complex issue. Maybe all these things together?

Serenity

I believe it is Raindrops on rosebuds and whiskers on kittens.

Greatness has not said it yet so I will, That is so sweet...:) I love whiskers raindrops and rosebuds, add a cup of hot gourmet coffee on the porch at sunrise, and birds singing beautiful songs.. Oh serenity, that makes me happy....

oh my

You both stole my lines. :D

That I have a place to sleep, daily bread, and believing in myself that I can do and achieve things everyday make me happy. Let's think positively! I always think my life a miracle that I've made so far. If I add a little bit effort I think I can achieve a little more everyday. :)

Now I would like to say to Purplekow.. You are so considerate~~~

huh??

That wasnt quite saccharine enough. Better luck next time and perhaps add a dollop of Maple Sugar Syrup.

I am afraid I am confused... Purplekow would you mind elaborating on that for me?

Saccharine may be the sweetener of choice on the MC, but I do like to brighten every day with a dollop of pure Canadian maple syrup.

And I'm happy to share..

What I enjoy most

Christmas morning and the unexpected gift.

Everyone laughing at your funny story.

A Sunday morning in June, sunrise sitting on my deck with my coffee.

A walk after that first spring rain and the air smells so clean and fresh.

The auditors packing up and leaving with no list of issues and a signed report.

The smell of Lilacs on a spring morning.

My son walking down the airport terminal ramp, home safe from his tour in Afghanistan.

Happiness is an attitude, not a "thing" but thinking about and going on a trip by private aircraft makes me happy. :)

Bart, I hope you have already enjoyed seeing your son home safe but, if not yet, I hope soon. :)

Best regards,

A good book and cognac laid out in a comfortable leather chair by the fire on a cold rainy night.

Fresh cut flowers.

Warm chocolate chip cookies with cold milk.

Curled up in a man's arms, legs intertwined, spent, nuzzling your partner's neck.

Coming home and having your dog greet you at the door, barking, ecstatic to see you.

Just realizing, I am a sap!

The chances are that you have already come to believe that happiness is unattainable. But men have attained it. And they have attained it by realising that happiness does not spring from the procuring of physical or mental pleasure, but from the development of reason and the adjustment of conduct to principles.

from How to Live on 24 Hours a Day, by Arnold Bennett

Men spend their lives in anticipations,in determining to be vastly happy at some period when they have time. But the present time has one advantage over every otherit is our own. Past opportunities are gone, future have not come. We may lay in a stock of pleasures, as we would lay in a stock of wine; but if we defer the tasting of them too long, we shall find that both are soured by age.

I'm thinking for "Starters" this "Hunk of a Masseur" with the Blue Eyes standing over me!

Then I'd see just how much Happier I could get! ;)

Cuddling with a friendly dog.

Cuddling with a friendly (and hot) young man.

Hitting a great winning shot in tennis.

Hitting a winning shot without pulling a muscle.

Being told that the x-ray shows nothing is broken.

Being told that the blood test results are good.

Having regular bowel movements. (Well, what do you expect? I'm an old man!)

Watching the changing light on the mountain opposite my bedroom window.

Walking along a beautiful beach.

Reading a good book.

Seeing a good movie.

Watching a great operatic performance.

Hearing good news from an old friend.

Hearing that the weather is terrible in places where I no longer live. (Schadenfreude.)

Eating an unexpectedly good meal in a cheap restaurant.

Discovering that my new HDTV really does have a better picture than my 20 year old TV.

Knowing that my partner is happy.

You were citing greatness and did an admirable job but only greatness can been that sweet, you would have had to put some maple syrup (extrasweetness) to get to his level of sugariness.

Setting long term goals and achieving them gives me happiness and satisfaction (And yes, getting there is half the fun)

Also, close personnal relationships bring me pleasure and happiness-not necessarily romantic or ones of a sexual nature. The blessing of a friendhship or love of family members qualify. Knowing that one makes a difference in a persons life is very satisfying.

If my responses have been short I apologize. Working remotely from my Droid while on vacation. But I must mention this. Here I am at the happiest place on earth we all know Disney. Sharing time with my kids is one and here I am doing just that.

The other side of me must mention that rounding out this list is hearing from the friends i have made on this forum and checking the posts here. They honestly brighten my days. Not to sprinkle too much saccharin but thank you all for contributing to this place which has become such an integral part of who I am these days. Those of you who I owe special thanks know who you are. You guys have really helped make me happy in a tough time. pk, Leo, TB, Ryan thanks a million.

Romann, well you I can never repay.
