Was Ivana wrong in scolding the children or did she just have a Trump moment?

Yelling and cursing at children, Ivana Trump was escorted off a flight bound for NY. Ivana became outraged as "unruly" children were running up and down the isle. When the flight attendant tried to calm her down she became more belligerent. The plane taxied back to the terminal where Ms. Trump refused to exit, security was called in and she was escorted off.

Why weren't those kids behaving?

I have seen those rich kids cause a lot of problems everywhere. They must be from a very rich family. Where were their parents? Those kids should not have run up and down the aisle. Ivana, however, should not have yelled and cursed at children. She should have talked to their parents or nannies.

Why doesn't she have her own plane where she need not put up with all the shenanigans of anyone else? Surely, she can afford several.....

Then, she would have to put up with the antics of her own spoiled children or relatives thereof. The real point is that many children are spoiled or at least not disciplined properly.

A demonstration that money does not buy class. Something I have seen many times. Glad she had a lesson in the value of self-control: something the 60yo rich socialite has had more opportunity to learn than the children she was cursing.

Hmmm... I can't say cursing at children is the best option but I do somewhat sympathize with the situation of children being unruly on flights where they are going up and down the isles, banging on the back of seats and hitting the head rest with their hand/fist/toy or whatever. I do become quite annoyed by that and do feel that if the parent isn't going to exercise proper control of their child, then the crew should be able to ask the parent without concern of being punished to please control (obviously said in a much more diplomatic way and of course with a smile and the offer to assist in any way) their child out of concern for other passengers and their enjoyment of the flight. More often than not, I have seen parents just sit there while the child is screaming and kicking. While I'm not a parent I do know that ignoring the outburst in most cases doesn't work and something I learned from being around my two beloved nieces when they were wee little girls. While I understand that kids will be kids and that often means they're loud and full of energy, everyone paid good money for their seat and should be given all possible opportunities to enjoy it in peace IMHO as a frequent flier.

Though, that's just me and I openly admit that I'm not the best with kids especially if they're screaming, yelling and kicking in such confined spaces. :)

I would love to disabuse you of your attitudes about private aircraft. Today you have mentioned too many "unusual" ideas about them for me to take the time to correct. I promise to do so in the near future.

Yes please do :) I love to hear about it. I don't think my ideas are unusual but since you are in the business, I would love to know you take on it. :) Cheers ~

Zzzzzzzzz

I always fly coach because I read a lot...

I could be strapped in cargo with all the luggage and it wouldn't matter since I fall asleep shortly after takeoff and wake up when the wheels of the plane go screech on the runway. I adore flying, while I'm awake. :)

oh...

Then you should sit next to me. While you are sleeping... I will ( ).. lol.. I will leave it to your imagination.. ;):D:D

I forgot that you were in a private aircraft business. I should not have written about it so I've deleted it. I meant no harm. Anyways, happy holidays~~ :) Just take it as a layman's silly opinion but I do think there was nothing "unusual" about it.

Throw 'Em All Off...Mid-Air!

The flight crew and police should have waited until they were MID-FLIGHT to deplane Ivana, along with the disruptive children and their idiot parents. :)

It's extremely distressing when parents have no control over their unruly kids. Children have no right running up and down in the aisle of an airplane or running loose like wild banshees in a store, restaurant, doctors office for that matter). Unfortunately, those parents probably think their children's behavior is cute. ITS NOT.

However, Ivana should not have interjected herself into a confrontation with the children. She should have taken the high road by 1) politely discussing the issue with the parents or 2) allowing the flight attendants to try their best to handle the situation with the parents.

Civilization.....

Our Ivana has much more patience, that's what makes her a Dutchess...

LOL! If only it were true!

No fan of unruly children, here. I'm of the school that says children need to learn---at an early age---that the world does NOT revolve around them, and that there is certain public behaviour that just isn't acceptable. (The fact that it applies also to wealthy socialites is unfortunate for dear Ivana.) I'm also not one to burn in silence, but I would hope to choose my words carefully to ensure that someone takes control/responsibility to correct the situation. Cursing those you are hoping to step in and solve the problem is not generally a good way to go. ;)

I would have suggested that they(the unruly kids) be crated:eek: during the flight, and asked for a show of hands of the other passengers in First Class who might be in agreement.

It will be interesting to see if this generates a public dialogue on acceptable behaviour of children, or whether it's just a 10-second filler for the voracious media appetite.

I like to bring along little treats for any unruly tykes I might encounter on my travels.

Soft caramels, steeped overnight in a robust hypnotic, then carefully wrapped up again, seem to work nicely.

Ivana was wrong and I am not condoning the behavior of either the children or the parents, but I have been on more than one flight with adults who apparently started out like these children and still feel it is ok to be loud, demanding and totally oblivious to anyone around them.

Thought I'd never say this

OK, Ivana is a spoiled mature women. However if she is on a public

flight, paying good money for probably first class, and you have little

brats running around, I'd be pissed to. Even in Coach, if you're going to

bring your children keep them under control. I've had the back of my

chair kicked for hours, screaming kids, etc. Ivana, I'm with you, toss

the little bastards out the window.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It is nice if one will at least listen to others and that is all that I ask. However, when you misspell my nom de plume, that could mean real trouble. :)

I agree. I'm old school--if you can't control the kiddies, don't take them out in public.

I agree with your sentiments but, as I am sure you will allow, they are impractical in this day and time. Also, I think most of us either do not have children or were not the one to actually rear them, so we have opinions but not necessarily a world of real life experience. I am sure I will hear of any differences of opinion on that point. :)

Mostly, as you suggest, I don't blame the children, but, of course, the parents.

What does it mean anyway? Is it related to an airport?

greatness, you are incredible. All US airports of any size are named to include their international identification which is "K" for US airports. The remaining letter are "familiar" identifiers and indicate the usual airline ID. ATL = Atlanta but the real identifier is KATL. KMEM is for Memphis, TN which is where I live and work.

No harm, no foul. :)

Personally, I don't know anyone who is happy to have screaming, unruly kids on their flight. If it's a short flight (1-2 hours) I try not to pay attention to them and focus on something else. An Ipod comes handy in those situations. On a long-haul flight that may become an annoyance, since I try to use my time to relax and sleep. The worst situation I've encountered is when the little kid behind me starts kicking the back seat with his feet. I always try to stay polite and first make an eye-contact with the parent, after the second eye-contact I usually get something like "He's just a kid ..." then I leave the flight attendant deal with it ...

Cheers,
