I recently received a phone call from an escort I have known for about 5 years but who I have not hired in about 2.5 years. We have remained in contact and when he is in my area, he will stay at my home and sleep over in a separate bed. I have lent him a car, money and I think of us as friends, much like you might a former lover.

During the phone call, he asked me for my address and I gave it to him. Two days later, I start receiving loads of junk mail with his name on it. One of them was addressed to: John Doe (Actually not to John Doe but to his real name) Rentboy and then my address.

I have called and texted him to ask why he used my address. When he asked he said he was sending me something, I assumed a holiday card. He has not responded. I am perplexed as to why he used my address and by the way his name appeared on one of the pieces of mail. I can't see how this could be a bad thing for me, other than the additional recycling.

Any ideas about this. Escorts, does Rentboy send you mail with your name and Rentboy after it and does it require you give them an address.

That is strange

He knows your phone number and mailing address. You are getting his mails. That sounds a bit suspicious. What other mail you've got under his name?

No.

and does it require you give them an address.

I don't believe so.

Now version 6.0 of rentboy is on the boards, one feature of which will be the ability to see escorts' locations on a map. Perhaps he wanted an address in your neighborhood to indicate where he might be staying. (Don't fret, I think the data is dumbed down so as not to be indiscreet.)

In any case, I can't imagine rentboy sending anything to one's home address. Which is not to say that he couldn't have given that address to any other organization.

If he is using your address as his mailing address I would be suspicious of his motives. I don't know what you can do to protect yourself other than sending the mail back as "Return to Sender - Not at this address" Hopefully he will then be removed from their mailing lists.

I had a "friend" ask for my address to send me something , it turned out that he needed it to use my credit card online. The state of Georgia agreed to keep an eye on him for 2 years. (probation) :) I have only received phone calls and emails from RentBoy, never a letter. P.S. RentBoy Does use your billing address for the purpose of credit card verifacation.

The advantage of having only one credit card company, American Express with two different cards, one for business and one personal, is that with one phone call I could verify that there have not been any new or unusual charges. I have texted him and he sent back a text saying he would call me and explain. He has not called but this is not out of character. Still, the whole thing is weird.

The disadvantage to having only American Express is that many places do not take them. It is my understanding that they take far too long to reimburse the merchant.

In the 1990's I managed credit card acceptance for a startup wireless phone company. Although American Express charged higher fees, their superior account management program more than compensated us for the extra 1% they charged. When MC/VISA and Discover were still sending only paper statements, Amex had a tool that allowed us to download payment information and reconcile it to sales data. We also had fewer chargebacks with them. It is analogous to massage therapists. Do you want the guy who isn't certified and pay $70 or the guy who is certified and pay $100?

This does sound suspicious. If you haven't already, I would check your credit report(s) to ensure that no new accounts have been opened in your name without your knowledge/permission. You are entitled to a free credit report once per year from annualcreditreport.com

Hopefully it is nothing.

I spoke to the person involved and he states that a client of his went to an unsecured website and applied for many brochures to be sent to his address under his escort name. He subsequently went to the site and changed the address and the name to his name and my address and now is asking me to keep track of the kind of mail this generates. He did not want the mail coming to his home as the people he is living with do not know of his escort identity. The explanation was vague and convoluted and made no sense to me. I did check the credit services no activity there. Perhaps he is trying to establish a trail to prove residency in my state. Not much I can do about it now in any case except to continue to be vigilant to the least whiff of identity theft.

????

well it doesn't make any sense. Oh well maybe he needed your address for a car insurance or things like that.
