I heard you can score just about anything you need at this park in New York City (Washington Square Park). True? Is it a drug haven full of cops or safe for everything one might be looking for? Any info. appreciated. Thanks.

I've bailed more friends out of jail who got busted in this park buying drugs than you can imagine. For some reason many think it's a safe haven. Then again, maybe it is...and my friends are just completely inexperienced idiots who were lucky enough to find the undercover cops.

Anyways, just make sure you've got friends who don't mind missing Sunday brunch to come bail your ass outta jail and you'll be fine.

Frankly, since I live in the Village, I would appreciate it if you made your narcotics purchases elsewhere. How would you like it if every crackhead in town was coming to YOUR block to buy drugs?

Get a life.

Militantly yours,

I heard this was true when Max's Kansas City was going strong; possibly even through the hey day of CBGB's. I wouldn't recommend acquiring recreationals from any stranger, especially in a public area outdoors.

Later.

PS. If all else fails, Vivarin and Cuervo Gold can give a decent buzz, altho with a killer hang-over.

Actually, 1968 was the last good year.

When I was a teenage hustler (i.e., during the Khrushchev years), WSP was my favorite place to cruise. My introduction to both pot and poppers came from guys I met there. The last time I was there, shortly after 9-11-01, it seemed to be filled with college kids and parents with young children, and lots of patrolling cops looking very suspicious.

I walked through WSP for the first time in 4 years (on my way to cruise the NYU tearooms- dead, by the way, I assume because of the summer). It was the first time I've EVER been through the park without being approached by someone selling drugs ("Smoke, smoke, smoke", etc.). I'm thankful for the effort they've taken to clean it up- I'll be a more frequent visitor now. BTW, the men's room was still playful. :9
