I just saw "Brothers" tonight. It was just OK. Acting was good, but they leave you hanging (and not in a good way). But it is nice to see Jake. I'd give it a C+.

I saw Blind Side a couple of weeks ago. Loved it. I'd give it a B.

Precious is still THE movie to see this winter.

I also want to see the new Zac Efron movie (forget the name). I'm not certain about Sherlock Holmes. This movie looks about odd to me. But I'll probably see it. I also want to see the new Meryl Streep movie "It's Complicated".

Precious is a must see movie, some of my friends found it depressing but I honestly found a good portion it to be uplifting. The hype for Avatar puts it on the must see list and along with it I would place Blind Side.

As usual, Its a Wonderful Life is the number one movie on my winter viewing list. Of the new movies, Blind Side is probably the one I will see in the movies if I have time. HBO for the others.

Blind Side is an excellent movie. In the Air looks good and is getting great reviews from early screenings, so it's definitely on my list. I'm waiting for Sherlock Holmes, as well.

Precious and Blind Side...

Hey Glutes,

"Precious" and "Blind Side" are both worthy of your time and hard-earned dollars.

"Precious" delivers a thought-provoking message about self-empowerment without any preachiness and psychobabble. It's a serious and harrowing drama, but is also surprisingly funny at times. Imho, Mo'Nique deserves an Oscar nomination for her performance.

"Blind Side" delivers humor, inspiration and genuine sentimentality. It's a feel-good Hollywood sports story of overcoming tremendous odds and breaking down barriers to ultimately be victorious. I agree with "Epigonos" that Bullock's performance is terrific...and by far her best yet.

I've really got my hopes up for Avatar. The hype is that JC's perfectionism is all over the film. I haven't looked forward to seeing a film this much since Starwars.

Brothers was awful, Up in the Air was terrific. Haven't seen the other two. A few others I'd recommend:

The Last Station with Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer.

An Education -- simply splendid.

Seraphine -- a French movie that's been playing around most of the year. Really brilliant and almost no one has seen it.

How does "Brothers" rate for skin? Too bad it's not about Jake going after Toby.

Thanks to all responders!

The reason I posted was because 'Up In the Air' got tremendous reviews, yet it is suppose to be so sad and comical at the same time.

Your views help narrow down alternatives on a busy schedule.

If you're unsatisfied after watching it, I recommend reverting to my current favorite starring David and Romann:

I would want to see Jake going after someone a LOT hotter than Tobey. Perhaps Jake could star in "Eating Out 4?"

Another movie I'd recommend would be "Me and Orson Welles." Just in case there were any people who thought Zac Efron was just gorgeous but couldn't act this will dispel that. He's terrific. Really enjoyed the whole movie.

"Precious." I wanted to like it. It's terrificly made. Good performances. But it's just so depressing I felt it was like going to the doctor and taking your medicine. Such a downer. Don't get me wrong; it's good but you have to be in the right frame of mind for it. I wasn't.

Thank you! Didn't want to be the first "nay sayer", per se, lol. I felt like I wasted my life watching the movie. Granted, I got the exact same feeling from the Soloist. It's a depressing story about how someone so low finally did something to correct their situation that was still...low. I'm all for the happy endings. Slumdog Millionaire ripped at my heart multiple times through-out the movie...but left me feeling inspired. The Reader didn't show such a huge accomplishment as Slumdog but left me emotionally shaken by the fact that the man finally came to terms with some of his hurt past. I can feel that the protagonist grew; I'm proud of them. In Precious, I still felt she was just an underprivileged ignorant girl who was going to have a very difficult life. I wanted to enjoy it as well...but could not for the life of me. I could not relate.

This has honestly been on my mind for a while...since I've been confronted by lovers of the movie the Soloist. I don't believe I'm a bigot. I have friends who work in public services and on research projects to try to understand homelessness better and find a "solution". One of my friends slept on the street to experience it...and I've known and still know people who live on the streets. Even two weeks ago I had to suffer through a horrible situation with that friend who needed to refuse housing to an acquaintance of ours who just re-entered the country and was obviously so drugged he was not making logical sense (we believe his mental faculties were actually past repair). A close friend of mine that was best friends with this person when hearing about it similarly had to make a decision to be very cautious in helping the person due to the circumstances of mind. A couple years back, I met a group of homeless people at a park and thought of spending the weekend with them to see how it felt, in generality. I didn't do it...but was fascinated by their lifestyle as they seemed coherent and traveled seasonally to cities with preferable weather via rail. If I walk to a restaurant and see someone outside who is homeless I make it a point to not eat all my food and bring them a reasonably sized, warm meal; I never give them money. In Chicago, I rarely make it home with my leftovers because I often end up giving it to someone on the way back. The cause of homelessness is often varied but many times I believe comes back to mental illness. I don't feel removed or unaware of the situation. But, it is one that I'm not happy with and don't enjoy being reminded of. The Soloist reminded me of that situation. It did not inspire hope. It was a tragic story. The only benefit I may give it is showing the journalists realizations...but felt that was not the main point of the movie.

Precious didn't do that. The growth was of the direct titled protagonist. Poverty is more of a mindset than a financial status. I've obviously not thought of this movie as much since I don't really have much to say about it other than I didn't like it.

On the flip side, where I'm still trying to understand why I don't like these movies, I did enjoy Towelhead - the story of a girl coming to sexual age amongst a repressive father, same-age lover, and an older molester. I suppose I enjoy this movie because it took a topic I wasn't as well familiar with and showed the complexity of the situation and not some minor accomplishment. At the end of the movie, I even had empathy for the molesting pedophile.

Sorry for the rant...I just don't like the movie. :p

Brothers seemed contrived and full of cliches. I rarely saw the actors as anyone but Jake and Toby, which made it difficult to view the movie on its own terms. War is hell, we already know that, but I think another actor, less well-known, could have pulled off the role more successfully. Which isn't to say that they didn't try. No, there was no skin. Life is sometimes about more than that.
