So Obama has an opportunity to invite a gay couple to sit at the head table of a state dinner and he invites 60-year old David Geffen and his 26-year old boyfriend. Call me a prude. It just seems that Obama could have picked a more representative pair to put in front of the eyes of the nation. I suppose I should credit him for even making the effort of inviting a gay couple at all but he could have done better. Way better.

If I remember correctly and if we are talking about the same person I think he is near 70... or at least mid 60. Anyways, he is amazing to have a 26 year old boyfriend at that age.

Where, exactly, are these people being "put in front of the eyes of the nation"? There's limited press at a state dinner, limited usually to the principals. There's no arrival ceremony. You almost have to go out of your way to uncover the list of invited guests.

 

Not exactly putting much of anything anywhere.

I can understand the desire to have a better, more pleasant, representation of homosexuality in the United States.

What's amazing about a MULTI-BILLIONAIRE having a "boyfriend" who's young enough to be his grandson? Do you really think that kid would touch him if he were like, say, the Forum's chronic masturbator? The kid is there for the money and that's all and if the kid is smart, he'll get all he can while he can.

we should all be so lucky to have billions of dollars and a good looking "boy friend". now maybe david is a really nice, caring partner but i can not help thinking that somehow dollars enter into the equation.

OK, so what if they are in fact a real couple not facilitated through any cash exchange? Is it so totally implausible that a 26 year old hottie might have a daddy fetish and go for a decently-in-shape 66 year old guy? (It hurts not that the 66 year old guy is a billionaire, but does that mean he might not be a loveable hunk to somebody who really goes for older guys?) And just because the young boyfriend is -- at least in my estimation -- a good looking fellow with a good looking body doesn't necessarily mean he's a hustler.

 

In my work, I come into contact with lots of 20-something guys, graduate students, many of whom would hold their own in the looks&bod department with Geffen's young squeeze, none of whom are "in the biz" as far as I know....

I am happy that Mr. Geffen and guest, as well as the other three gay and lesbian couples, were invited to the White House state dinner. In addition, I am happy that Mr. Geffen and his guest were honored by being invited to sit at the main table with the president. The event was important for all gays and lesbians, and a singular honor for Mr. Geffen.

 

We in the gay world should be particularly sensitive to diversity of lifestyles and diversity of tastes, not critical of others. There is no reason for sniping at Mr. Geffen.
