While I think there's room for the cookie cutter performers, they're not for me. I really like Lambert, his edginess and his creativity. His voice, like all voices, has its good days and bad days. The album, however, is incredible. I'm quite sure he'll be around long past the 15 minutes you guys give him.

I couldn't agree more. And for those of you who are lambasting his "screechy" voice, did you miss the AI performances where he was called upon to sing ballads? He was absolutely incredible - and that is meant in the good sense. He has more talent and imagination than almost anyone who is recording today.

It's a damn shame there are so many bitchy queens just praying for his failure.

The One We're Talking About...

I enjoyed Adam's AMA performance. I also love Kris Allen's new song which expresses a wonderful message of living each day to the fullest. I'm a huge fan of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, too. Have downloaded all four of these artists music in my i-pod and wish them all great success. It's interesting to read how people from vastly different socio-economic stratas, geographic regions, cultures and heritages respond differently to the same music and/or a particular vocalist.

Adam Lambert is attempting to extend the current limits of musical performance. His desire to innovate, or go beyond commonly accepted boundaries is not that much different than the m/o of Elvis, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Run-D.M.C., Madonna, Garth Brooks and others. Whether Adam will be as successful (or even remembered in 2-years) is yet to be determined, but he is the ONE everyone is talking and writing about today.

Danny who? Sorry, I couldn't resist. All I remember about him is his endless chatter about his dead wife. Enough of that already.

I don't know what show you were watching but there was no "endless chatter about his dead wife". I watched every episode and remember him talking about it only ONCE and that was in the introductory phase of the season.

Referring to a young newlywed as a "dead wife" is callous and has a tone that's flip and dismissive. "Oh shut up about your dead wife and sing."

The PRODUCERS made sure everyone knew about it but he actually NEVER talked about it except the first time. It was clear some of his song choices were influenced by her but that's totally understandable.

Your criticism, if accurate would be fair, but it's not accurate so it's not fair.

Actually that's not true. He always said he was gay if asked. He treats it as a non-issue and frankly that is where we should be in society but unfortunately we are not.

I find this thread and of course all of the discussion on radio and news this morning fascinating. I think he did what he wanted and that was to create a conversation. I applaud any entertainer who can do that in this day and age.

I do wish he had focused on the singing more than he did in this performance because the actual recorded song is so much better without all of the screeching.

I am disappointed that people use hateful words toward him versus trying to understand what he is trying to do first.

He never once admitted he was gay during the run of "American Idol." That's a fact. He was being disingenous at best and a big, fat (literally) liar at worst. He was too coy by half. Everyone knows what he was up to. He was asked during "American Idol" and declined to answer at least a 100 different times.

I just find him abhorrent in every way. I am sorry if that offends you. I think you ascribe way too much depth to a shallow wannabe who uses way too much falsetto and has a drag queen personality. I think all he is trying to do is be famous and make money. I understand that perfectly. I don't think there is anything more to it than that.

He's an exhibitionist in the extreme. If he could become famous and make money being a porn star he'd do that instead. That's all it's about, Alfie.

That's too bad, because his CD is actually one of the most creative I've ever heard and there isn't the screeching like you heard in the performance last night.

Listened to some excerpts on Amazon. I don't see what is so creative about it and the voice is just does nothing for me.

To each his own.

Adam Lambert's sexually-charged performance of his latest single, For Your Entertainment, at the American Music Awards featured the American Idol alum simulating oral sex with a male dancer, making out with one of the band members and plenty of crotch grabbing so naturally he's the subject of controversy.

Glambert's response?

"You know honestly, if I offended some people… it's apples and oranges. I'm not an artist that does things for every single person. I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either."

Adam's performance was edited for the west coast feed and the budding pop star was none too pleased about it!

"There's a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I'm a male, and I'll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem.

"People are scared and it's really sad, I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things, it's all for a laugh, it's really not that big of a deal."

Stick to your guns, Adam and never apologize for who you are!

That's some of the worst nonsense I've ever heard. Probably written by a publicist.

Artist? Give me a break. What he did on that show was just disgusting and ridiculous and calculated to get attention. Just like everything else he does. It has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with "art." To cloak what he did under the rubric of "artistic expressions" does a disservice to real artists the world over who have to fight to be heard.

This piece of bacteria should be ashamed. No one I know of is scared of him or anything else. You don't have to have a closed mind to find his behavior outside what is acceptable. Enough of this already!

It's a worse shame that instead of just accepting that people have different opinions and respecting that you have to resort to name-calling anyone who disagrees with you. I don't like Adam Lambert one bit but I certainly think that people have a right to like him and enjoy his stuff. I wouldn't call them names for doing so.

Yes, but no one is talking about him because of his "music" but rather because of his outrageousness which is completely different from the others that you mentioned. No one talks about his "music" because there is no there there which is why he resorts to cheap performance tricks.

I guess we all see and hear things differently. For me, the show is supposed to be a singing competition and not a show about who has the best sad story. I'm sorry but that's not what it is about for me. I heard endless conversation about Gokey's recently deceased wife. From him and from everyone on the show all the time. Perhaps that was my perception and not yours. But I found it too much.

I'm sorry if you thought I was flip and dismissive. That wasn't my intention.

GMA cancels Lambert's Wednesday gig (too hot for morning TV)

Sources confirm exclusively to TMZ that ABC has cancelled Adam Lambert's planned performance on Good Morning America tomorrow.

No official reason has been given for the cancellation.

Translation: The network is upset with Lambert's homoerotic American Music Awards performance on Sunday and afraid of what he will do on live, morning television.

This is very disappointing and I'm very upset that he is being treated differently than female stars who have done something similar. Would all of this be happening if Lady GaGa or Madonna or Britney made out with one of her female musicians or shoved one of her female dancers in her crotch???

But, don't stress for Adam, sources tell us he's going to be appearing on ANOTHER morning show tomorrow - The Early Show on CBS - and his song Whata Ya Want From Me has just been added to Z100 in NYC. A huge coup for the Idol alum!

At the end of the day, though, there is no such thing as bad press. All this publicity - which Lambert was hoping for but could never imagine would reach this scale - will only help him!

A mess

I thought his performance was like most artists first time, they try to get a lot of press but end up concentrating more on the show then the singing. I followed Adam on A.I and I think he has a very soothing voice. The cool things about him is he comes from broadway and has alot of training. He can do many things with his voice, and it showed on A.I

I went out and bought his CD and it really is amazing. Every song to me sounded like a hit, very new age glam rock sound. The song "Fever" written by Lady GaGa was brilliant. I think it is very funny how people say he is horrible and cant sing just from this one time.

His response to what people were saying about him...

"You know honestly, if I offended some people… it's apples and oranges. I'm not an artist that does things for every single person. I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either.

"There's a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I'm a male, and I'll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem.

"People are scared and it's really sad, I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things, it's all for a laugh, it's really not that big of a deal.

Also kudos on not lip syncing like more then 50% of the performances at AMA.

oh

I see... That is why it got taken out of youtube?

So ABC cut part of this in the West Coast feed - the part at the beginning where the guy on the leash simulated oral sex. But of course they left in the part where he pulls the girl into his crotch. That's outrageous!!

Let's just take a moment to get things into perspective here. You obviously feel very strongly about A.L. as you have written 6 posts in a row defending your position along with numerous previous ones. We DO get it - you don't like him.

(1) Re name calling. I didn't specifically refer to you with my "bitchy queens" remark, but if the shoe fits - wear it.

(2) You're no novice at name calling yourself. To refer to Adam as a "piece of bacteria" would qualify as name calling in my books.

(3) Did it never occur to you that the reason he didn't come out during his American Idol gig was probably at the insistence of the producers of the show? It could even have been written into his contract that sexual orientation was not to be discussed.

(4) The backlash against him is IMO a homophobic one. As proof of this I offer you Madonna, who is famous for her outrageous behavior over the years. Do we hear people saying tisk, tisk, over her. Not so much - she is considered to be a legend and adored by all.

I get a giggle from your sanctimonious stance on all of this. Your mind is closed and you are unable to admit that while some of his music may be offensive to the eardrums, his treatment of ballads and old time Tin Pan Alley standards are second to none.

Tunnel vision must be a very depressing malady to live with.

About #4. The jesus freaks in Poland were trying to ban her last concert because they think she's the devil or something like that. Another example was her Confessions tour when she sand Live To Tell on a disco mirrored cross while wearing a crown of thorns. Oh the jesus freaks were throwing a tizzy over that one as well. Just Two examples for you Zip. I could go on and on and on but you get the point.

Hugs,

Greg

your resident Madonna fanatic :p

LOVE Joy Behar. But she never liked watching American Idol, so she doesn't really know about Adam Lambert.

Rosie O'Donnell also came out in defense of Adam Lambert on her radio show this morning. She said she is going to go buy a 100 copies of his CD in support and give them out to her friends. She also felt that ABC was cowardly and that in general we are a prudish nation.

Damned if you do - damned if you don't....

Like him or not.....at least he is doing something and pushing buttons and has people talking. And when people talk people tend to buy. All in all, not a bad marketing strategy. Kudos to him or his business people. His first album just might go platinum....time will tell.
