Oprah*will announce on Friday that she has decided to end her talk show. The Queen of Daytime will not be renewing her very lucrative contract and is set to change the landscape of television with her departure.

She is expected to make the announcement on*The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The show will end on September 9, 2011, after 25 years on the air.

I heard about that a few moments ago on the world news. I heard a few months back that she wasn't expected to renew something to do with wanting to launch a new network maybe...

I tried watching her while I was out in the mid west and is all I gotta say is painfully sad! Not sad that she is going but sad that the show just didn't seem to have that something that was once there.

Hugs,

Greg

She's not ending her show - she's moving it to LA and putting it on cable.

Bye Oprah

Well I'm going to start alot of notes flying; great, I'm glad she's going, I saw no value of her show at all, she provided nothing and that was seen this week with former Gov Palin. I have never seen anything of her show that presented the high ratings or honor that she does, ok it's probably me. She has her doctor on to talk about how to loose weight, she talks about her books, etc. Sorry, I'm not a fan at all.

Jeesh...that Sarah Palin destroys everything she touches. :D

Except her own fame and fortune, it seems. How long until Sarah ends up with her own talk show?

I met Oprah once, back when she was on local TV in Baltimore. She did a morning talk show and I was in the audience. After the show, I asked for a photo and she and her co-host didn't even have publicity shots. Things have certainly changed.

She was kind of a laughing stock among other TV news people, who thought she was inept and somewhat amateurish. (A friend of mine was married to a newscaster who told me that they would show Oprah blooper tapes at parties. There was at least some racism involved; she was regarded as an untalented affirmative-action hire.) I was shocked when she first got her own show, because I never found her impressive on the air in Baltimore, and then amazed as Oprah-the-nobody morphed into OPRAH the industry.

Who's laughing now?

Meanwhile, I think I'll start my own cable channel, too. "Zapped TV." We'll chat about escorts, hot guys, vacation tips, opera, theater, etc. Everything that Logo needs but doesn't have.

No Rocky, it's not just you - I feel the same way. She has become to many a sort of religion. If Oprah told them to shit broken glass they'd be munching bottles before the show was over.

I would venture to say she has the biggest ego in showbiz. And she is deceitful and phony to boot. Remember the show a couple of years ago where a Pontiac was given to every woman in the audience - all of whom had been hand-picked as deserving? She got all the credit for this, which she lapped up like a cat into cream. Opera didn't SUPPLY these cars. General Motors did, but she took all the credit. What a phony.

My only question is why wait until 2011 to call it quits? Why waste a whole year?

That's probably due to contractual obligations in the syndication contract with the stations. Oprah's show generates a ton of local revenue for the stations and its going to take a while for them to figure out how to shift their programing. Giving one year's notice allows for a strategic and orderly programming review.

I assume that Ellen DeGeneres will be the big beneficiary from this announcement. Her show will likely pick up the Oprah time slot in many markets.

Oprah - WHAT A YAWN of EPIC proportions

Unless your a total shut-in what is the point of watching such insipid programming !!! I could not agree more with the last several posters - this BITCH is such a bore - the saddest reality being that we must endure another 2 years of her on TV - OUCH - NOW that's TORTURE of EPIC proportions !!! But really - is it any wonder the networks are dying . . . look at the boredom of daytime TV - who's the audience . . . now if only that other fossil Brabra Walters would pack her LV's and make some room for new talent - let's see with that overpaid bitch's salary you could practically start a new network . . . let's get with the program folks ... it's time for some NEW !!!

Contractual obligations probably have a lot to do with it, but they'd be with staff & production facilities. Subscribers wouldn't hold much sway. In fact, I thought I heard just in the last week that several stations in larger markets staged a mutiny and refused a rate increase announced by Harpo.

There was also recent speculation that Oprah was going to uproot the show and move it to LA.

I suspect it's a combination of "leave 'em wanting more" and Oprah moving on to build OWN.

And, of course, there's the recent blind item about a talk show host seeing a shrink about weight control issues and finding them caused by being in the closet. The host wants to come out but fears career repercussions, in spite of out competition that's flourishing.

Makes you go "hmmmm....."

I'd vote for her to be replaced by Anderson Eye Candy Cooper.

As one might say in court in Britain, "I completely agree, my Lord, and have nothing further to add".
