After a bumbling Los Angeles team could not come back to defeat the New York Yankees, the American League Champion will face the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. Hopefully the Phillies won't be afraid to pitch to Alex Rodriguez. The Angels walked him 3 times tonight.

Opening game is Wednesday in New York. C.C. Sabathia will go against the Phillies' Cliff Lee.

Basically the LAA's just blew up. However, the walks they gave to A-rod worked. Posada hit into two DP's when A-rod was the leading runner. Also, with the bases loaded, walking in a run by walking A-rod may have saved 3 more.

I am just glad they polished the series off tonight.

Lucky,

At the outset, I do not want to hijack your thread, but after watching the whole American League Championship Series, one throught struck me (oh... and YEAH, GO YANKEES too :D)

What has happened to Major League Baseball players? Is it just me but they all seem "older" and very much "chunkier" in the face and body, or is that from all that crap they constanly chew and spit right out into my super HD screen

Last night it seemed both teems had not shaved in a day or more, most were NOT the guys I used to not only cheer one, and collect cards on, but also -- I admit -- lust after in their uniforms. Now??? I can watch baseball for hours and not betray a single bad thought - which can be good or bad... depending... as I often need some distraction for these LONG innings.:p

Bring 'em on!!!!

Bring on Philly!!! We're ready!!!! With A-Rod's bat and butt in A form plus my guy Teixeira I think we are in pretty good shape.

As for the Angels, I have not seen them play much this year… except for when they have played the Yanks… and it did take a while for the Yanks to “figure them out”… but just in time! Still, the pitching decisions seem to have been bizarre.

Where the heck was Brian Fuentes? I know that he is their closer and has and is developing an almost “Mariano-like” reputation from what I hear. Perhaps my opinion of him is colored a bit because I know his uncle... (who incidentally recently received a gift from his nephew in the form of a new SUV… I guess when one has millions they can be generous with their gift-giving… but I digress) but where the heck was he? Were they saving him to close and save game seven… or perhaps keep him fresh for the World Series. Perhaps I am off base on this as I am really not familiar at all with the Angels bullpen and perhaps the best decisions were made… but still???

At least Girardi had the guts to use Mariano for an unheard of 6 outs! Also, he had the guts to use Joba... which made me a bit nervous, but I think that is ultimately where Joba belongs.

Baseball Babes

adnyuki- This is a baseball thread, so your question /comment is not out of line. We had another thread on Best Butt in Baseball where many expressed their lust for certain players. I find that the Yankees have several hot players, the Angels had none-zero.

I can't say about the Phillies, except for Cole Hamel.

I agree with you on the unshaved faces, especially in this day of high definition TV. Andy Pettite looks really old with that scraggly growth. Last night they showed a pic of him from ten years ago, and I remembered why I used to think he was so hot. My guess is that players want to look tough for the game, or else think that shaving after is more convenient.

Historic photos of baseball though do not seem to find many really hot guys. Perhaps it's that long summer of games- they just start looking tired. Not my favorite guys though!

Actually I thought Andy looked pretty good for a "old man"... and he always had the scruff beard for important games as long as I can remember. It gives him "the look" and when he has "the look"... Message to opponents... "You're toast!" Obviously he has had "the look".

I was watching a Yankee's Classic game on the YES network a few weeks ago from the late 70's or early 80's... a game from the pre-steroid/working out with weights era. The guys looked so damn small... no muscles what so ever... not much beef on that cake at all. The times they have have changed.

The St.Louis Cardinals, losers to the losing Dodgers in the playoffs, received a shot in the butt today as Mark McGwire was named hitting coach.

What revenge for 1950? Your Phillies were an inferior team and they lost in 4 games to the Yankees.

The Phillies record:

Philadelphia Phillies 91 63 -- .591

The Yankees record:

New York Yankees 98 56 .636 --

So the Yankees won 7 more games than the Philllies during the season. Why would you think the Phillies could beat them? The Phillies blew Robin Roberts by pitching him in 3 of the last 5 season games, leaving him unavailable for game one against the Yankees. They lost another pitcher with 17 wins under his belt to the Army.

Shall we assume that is a shot of your favorite steroids? Or, Budweiser/whiskey, also favorite shots in the local area, STL, not your butt.

Charlie-

As I am sure you very well know, any team can get hot and win a short series, regardless of which team is "better", the other can win.

Geez, another bad call by the umpire. Who hires these guys, anyway?

The Yankees looked good tonight. But what happened to A-Rod, that damn Hudson girl keeping him up all night?:(

Posted

Still his Daddy!

...this series is going to be hard on my nerves.

... and mine as well!! ... and part of the frustrations are coming from the umpires!!!

Still, it is good to know that Pedro can still call the Yankee's "Daddy"!

Plus, my guy Teixeira was again "on the mark" with another "Teix message" into the stands!

And an astrologer predicted that with A-Rod being a Leo, and Mars currently being in Leo, that it was a "supercharged" time for him. I guess that means lots of strikeouts?

Posted
Well, gosh, why bother playing then???:)

Well, the program also predicts the Yankees will jump out to an early lead. :) As long as it's an early inning blowout, I don't mind watching. It's those 3-2 games with lots of guys left on base that stress me out.

Edit: Hey, wait a minute! Aren't you the same guy who was relying on astrologers?

Just sayin'....

Sounds like the model is better than the one that Bear Stearns, AIG, and Lehman Brothers were using

On that disputed play: My eyes and those of the TV crew all saw the ball hit the ground before it went into the glove, but the umpire said it was caught on the fly. Now they have reviewed the tape, and here's what they say:

“We looked at the replay and it looks like a catch,” said the crew chief Gerry Davis, who was the right-field umpire for Game 2.

HUH??? It clearly hits the ground!

It only looked like it hit the ground in slo-mo. On a plain replay, it would look like a catch.
