Thinking over the last couple of days with all the fuss over the Miguel incident and the messages stating that this sorta thing happens every 3 months or so would people really miss the Lounge part of tis site if it wasn't here.

I mean it's a very small part of rather a large site and as people have pointed out this is a site about escorts-hiring,reviewing etc and its obviously grown and become successful because of that people roll up here to read the reviews and check up the guys in their area or where they might be heading to,would it really matter here if it wasnt around for people to vent, joke or bitch.

I've often wondered and if anyone can help i'd be grateful if there is such a thing as a gay lifestyle chat site i know about the chat parts of gay.com etc but a stand alone site for gay people to chat about anything and everything.

Interested to hear what u think.........

As someone who has been a fairly faithful participant at this site for going on three years, I can tell you right now that I would miss the Lounge. M4M provides an important venue for many men like me, as I have learned in private e-mails from other members.

I am no longer young; I do not live in a large metropolitan area where there are lots of gay organizations; there are very few gay men where I live, and it happens that I'm not close friends with any of them; by inclination and training I am interested in ideas and in expressing them; I very much enjoy thinking about all kinds of topics having to do with men's sexuality. Apart from this site, I have absolutely no other place I can go with these concerns and interests. Most important of all, this site fills a genuine emotional need I have not to feel isolated. At the moment, many of our more intellectually-inclined correspondents have taken a holiday from M4M because of some very nasty business that happened here last fall. I know that they drop in from time to time, and I hope they'll be back soon.

Meanwhile, the Lounge is the only place where I find threads that I can contribute something to. Far more important, it is the only place I have found on the web where gay men can discuss subjects of common interest with other articulate, intelligent gay men. I also look in at Atkol; but it just isn't the same. For some reason, the discussion over there never reaches the level that it does here.

Just as it isn't necessary to participate in every conversation at a large gathering, it isn't necessary to read every thread. It's enough, in fact, to find one or even two in which one feels comfortable, at home, and engaged. Yes, I check out the new reviews every morning. But what I really come here for is the Message Center; and the Lounge -- for me -- is the room I spend by far the most time in.

If you find some of the threads in the Lounge distressing, why read them? Is someone forcing you to do it against your will? I have never understood people who complain about doing something that is totally v-o-l-u-n-t-a-r-y on their part, like reading these threads. Reading the title, summary and author of each thread on the Lounge page should be enough to tell you whether you will enjoy reading the thread itself. If you see that it's about something or written by someone you don't want to read, don't read it. That's what I do with almost all of the threads you create.

Will's comments capture my view of the Message Center and especially the Lounge. While the MC/Lounge is a small part of this site, as counted by hits, it is the shining jewel in the crown in my view. Where else can one find the quality of posts and participants that are often found here. The Deli, though more of a meat market, on occasion arises to that level too and Escort travels is an important forum for my interests.

Lately, there hasn't been much of interest in the Lounge (and Deli) to attract my attention, though I check regularly if not as often as I used to. Things do go in cycles around here. And to be fair I haven't had the interest lately to participate much -- lots of real life distractions to attend to, some pleasant. But I will continue to check in.

Without the MC my visits would likely drop to once per week permitting me to keep abreast of the few new reviews I might be interested and NYO's reviews.

Hope it never comes to that.

Although there are a lot of threads in the Lounge that I skip past, it is by far the most interesting and lively part of the message board, and the part that I would miss the most, even more than the Deli, the only other section I look at regularly. I agree with Will that it provides the best place I have found on the internet for intelligent interactions with men who are interested in the the same issues, from a sexual perspective, that interest me.

Absolutely.

Look, we're all just a bunch of silly queers here anyway (except for a few malcontents, anyway). What is essential to the life of any queer? Two things: dick and drama. One we want a lot but don't get enough of. The other we don't want at all, but we always get more than we need.

Even if there were not a lounge, the deranged posters would MOORE than likely just post it in another forum. The drama crops up once per quarter and keeps things interesting.

On the flip side, there have been a lot of fun and interesting discussions here in the lounge that we all would have missed were it not here. I say, Viva la lounge!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based on entertainment value for the dollar... it's hard to beat this site and the escort reviews/message center in particular. That's why I try to remember to contribute every once in a while... because I would miss it. And I don't want Hooboy to feel unappreciated and grow weary of the effort (because in spite of the disagreemnets I may have had with him over certain issues, or his occasional crabby outbursts, I REALLY do appreciate him).

The Lounge and the escort reviews are something I try to check out almost every day. Where else could I post on the internet that I ran into Chris O'Donnell this afternoon checking on his parked car on West

43rd Street in NY. He's appearing in Arthir Miller's "The Man With All The Luck" nearby. We both graduted Boston College, so it was esay to strike up a conversation. Chris is really good looking with a nice body, particularly his ass. Definately escort material, if his career does not pick up!

The point is, I don't care. You create a lot of threads here each week, I assume because you have no one to talk to in the real world. Based on the titles and summaries posted on the Lounge page, I find all but a very few of them to be boring and trivial, so I don't bother to open and read them. Why can't you do the same with threads that you don't like? Is that too hard for you?

I don't care for most of your threads, but I am sure some people want to read and participate in them, and that's fine with me. No one is forcing you to read and participate in threads that are not to your liking, and if others want to see and post in those threads I really don't see what business it is of yours.

Personally, I am oblivious to all of the underpinnings that are equated with this forum, so I can definitely and emphatically state that I would miss the lounge. It has afforded me the chance to ask questions and to receive valid, useful answers. It has also given me an opportunity to read about issues other than sex that are of a principal concern of those who write and read this website/forum.

The Miguel situation at this time can be viewed as unfortunate. Should it be validated to facilitate a discontinuance of a particular forum, albeit, as mentioned by another respondent that this is a miniscule aspect of a much larger "picture"? I voice a resounding NO, NO, NO!

Divergent ideas are HEALTHY! Disagreement is fruitful! Dissent is valid!

Cool - what does he drive?

I agree - prime beef there!

I think Chris is one of those actors who will never make it Big Time. A Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt he will never be. But he'll always be around (at least for a long time) and probably will always make over a million a year. Not big bucks as star pay goes - but I could live on it!

I am unclear why any person would read a post then start a topic objecting to reading a post that they did so by their choice. I assume that no one is at your home holding a gun to your head making you certain threads.

Whenever you have a group of people of different social background you will have uproar from time to time. I am sure the owner of this domain is aware of this.

I do not believe this message center could survive independant of this site. There are not enough participants and probably not enough hits. If I thought that it would be a viable situation I could have my own up and running within 48 hours. At this point in time I will leave it up to others to deal with the dozen posters here.
