There is a discussion on another thread about an escort whose pictures have been modified to erase a few tattoos. I am not a big tattoo fan though, through habit I either have my eyes closed or am peering to the eyes of the man I am with, so it is not a big problem.

Today, I was at the gym and there was a totally hot and very buff guy with a shaved head and piercing blue eyes. He is very handsome and very hot, and I have previous exchanged a few words with him and he was quite friendly and helpful in answering some questions I had. Later, in the locker room I was distracted from discretely ogling his fine body, I had never seen him without his shirt before, when I noticed a tattoo on his shoulder which was an eagle with a banner above which read "American Skinhead". My interest in him plummetted.

So two questions: For tattoo lovers or haters, is it that the man is tattooed or is it that tattoo itself that has the effect on you?

Second, would it be impolite to inquire about the tattoo and see if it represents his true feelings?

Well the Old "Distinguishing" Marks come into Play with Tats! IF your "Working It" without Face Shots they can be a pain in the ass!

ALL those including myself with TATS have them because each one does mean something Personally to US!

I'm thinking your First thought of him being a "Skinhead" since he states it, was right! Why bother asking him ? Usually Skinheads only have time for other Skinheads! ;)

KMEM, not all skinheads are against other races. Read up on it and talk to some if you have an opportunity. I've actually had the opportunity to talk to some and they are not against the blacks, Jews or gays and the ones that I talked too actually despise the white power skinheads. Like with any group there are sub groups, sometimes good and sometimes not so good.

Watching the Real World/Cancun last night- just for a few minutes- I noticed one cute guy had just ruined himself with tattoos. He even had them on his legs below the knee. I've finally gotten used to the tattoo thing, but some guys really need to know when to stop.

Agreed.

I have always viewed tattoos as a framing point for a time that had noticeable significance or a milestone but that's just me. That said, I do also see how some can and do find tattoos to be very unattractive and tainted with a common bad boy and a host of other stereotypes associated with body art.

I personally find them to be very erotic. ;)

My problem is not with tattoos: it's with most tattoo wearers. It's like lycra: most people wearing it shouldn't. A tasteful band around a sturdy arm is wonderful. A colorful serpent wrapped around a scrawny arm is not. I don't have a problem with too many tattoos, it's with people who don't have enough pleasant body parts to support them.

But as PK notes, when you get up real close and personal, you're not likely to notice the tats.

That is actually one of the best explanations on a view towards tattoos that I have ever heard. Bravo!

Romann, I sayeth unto you: Leviticus 19:28

All wise words when I did a Google Search for Leviticus 19:28 - thank you. Though, I haven't been bestowed with the gift of faith. :)

Very true.

Like with any group there are sub groups, sometimes good and sometimes not so good.

Agreed.

Unfortunately, it's is those sub groups when tend to be more on the radical side that receive the most attention and are what is remembered in the minds of many. Unfortunately, those sub groups also receive the most attention from the media instead of the broader group which has much different practices.

"(27) You shall not round the edge of your head, nor shall you destroy the edge of your beard. (28) And you shall not make a cutting for the dead in your flesh, nor shall you make a written tattoo upon you; I am YHWH."

Verse 27 & 28 should be read together. Both prohibit Jews from imitating the mourning customs of their heathen neighbors. Getting a tattoo is not the subject of an absolute prohibition any more than cutting one's hair or shaving one's beard. Breath easy Ye Twice Borns, you're free to tat up to your heart's content (as long as you're not commemorating a dearly departed). As to the separate question of attractiveness, I side with Lucky, but then I sported a flattop until I was 15. No doubt my parents found a Beetles haircut & facial hair equally unattractive.

An interesting (but long) exegesis of this passage from the POV of a fundamentalist Jewish sect is found here:

"Do not cut your body or put tattoo marks on yourself." Leviticus 19:28

"Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman, it is an abomination." Leviticus 18:22

Leviticus is generally looked upon as a book of priestly rites, rituals and laws.

I say chuck the whole book.

After reading the above interesting and informative article. The passages of 19:27 and 19:28 make sense, but it seems to me that 1927 or 1928 would be the last year anyone should have paid attention to them. Just my humble opinion.

I have 3 tattoos but like anything else iv seen some who over do it. I have this friend that's covered himself in tattoos and body piercings and imo has over done it. Body piercings has always been a big turn off too me for some reason When I see them I think of a open wound.

Next time you encounter some earnest Christian wingnut quoting 18:22, ask him when he intends to reinstate the Jubilee Year. Even Leviticus has its uses. ;)

Beauty is in the "Eye of the Beholder" Making a Personal Statement with a Tat is not ONLY for the Hunky! IF that was the case there wouldn't be New Tat Parlors Opening everyday!

As far as the Amount Chosen, as with how many "Working Guys" some Guys Hire..It can also I guess get a little Obcessive! :D Just Not as Noticable! :)

On my thirty-fifth birthday I decided I wanted to do something NO rational, adult thirty-five year old high school teacher would ever do. Thus I went out, to the horror of all my friends, and got my birth sign, a scorpion, tattooed on my right shoulder. It has also allowed me to answer YES when asked if I have any distinguishing marks on my body. I will be sixty-nine next month and have derived great pleasure from that little tattoo for nearly half of my lifetime.

At about the time I was preparing to retire tattoos became all the rage with my students. I always advised them to limit the number and place them were they could be easily covered for job interviews. I definitely agree that an interesting tribal bracelet tattooed on a great bicep can be hot, Hot, HOT. Personally I find more than two or three too many and unattractive.

Although I won't be around to see it, I hate to think how most - if not all - of these tattoo nuts will look when in their 70s and 80s. UGH.....

Posted

Well you know Zipperzone is not hiring this guy, unless I mis-"juge" him.

In my original posting it was not so much the tattoo but the "skinhead" tattoo that was offputting even on an otherwise sexy guy. Does the content of a tattoo influence your thoughts about the men whose bodies you lust after? Please no one answer "Juge not unless ye be juged."

"ONLy God Will JUGE Me" has all the earmarks of a jailhouse tattoo. Jailhouse ink acts as a caution signal to me, along with skulls, grim reapers and the like.

Other than that, tats aren't a dealbreaker one way or the other. It's not something I'll ever do but for Gen ?, tattoos seem to be about the same thing as pony tails and facial hair were to the babyboomers. Some of the guys posting here sound just like my daddy and granddaddy going on about how the younger generation was hell bound for sure. Remember "Longhaired hippies! You can't tell the boys from the girls!" It's enough to make me smile with nostalgia.

Reverse Discrimination

You might want to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, PK. Maybe you could ask him what the tattoo means to him or find some way of feeling him out on his racial views. I have a buzz cut and a maple leaf tattoo on my chest. I have suffered verbal abuse on the streets on Toronto, London and Berlin from people who assumed that I was a racist. I have suffered abuse from French Canadians who assumed that I was anti-French. I scarcely dare take my shirt off in Montreal. This is a sort of reverse discrimination: judging me on my appearance. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have friends, clients and fuckbuddies of all races and deplore racism. I love French Canadians, speak the language, and would very much like Quebec to remain in Canada, while accepting its right to self-determination. I have a buzz cut because I like it and it saves me a fortune in hair gel! I adopted the style while living in London, where there are many non-racist gay skinheads. I got the tattoo because I'm a proud Canadian who wanted a small tattoo that wouldn't go out of style. People are too quick to judge and make assumptions in this world.

PK: I don't know why you would think that. He is quite cute and presumably has a nice tight little ass just waiting for a good tonguing.

My only problem with tattoos is when they are so plentiful as to make a body look like a road map. And it gets worse with every passing year. By the time they reach 70 you probably have to stretch their skin to even see the whole tat.

I know what you mean. I hardly ever hire a tattooed escort over seventy. Although I did recently hire a guy with liver spots in the shape of a swastika. They looked like a cross in his ads but, by the time he showed up four hours late . . . well, you know.
