I wonder how many pints these two guys had before entering in to such a pact? This comment does not make this story any less touching or poignant to me. After serving in the military for 9 years, I just know some of the things that guys do.

I always hate to lose the young folks from anywhere for any reason.

Best regards,

Read this story and though this guys taste in dresses is questionable his dedication to his friend is unquestionable.

Stuart Moore wrote [in response]:

You do not know the details of the pledge, so for you to sit there and criticise is totally repugnant. Do you think that Barry Delaney is crying because his dress clashes with his socks? No, he is crying because he has lost his best friend and the only way he could show his devotion to his comrade was to dress in this manner.

PK, you have accomplished the seemingly impossible task of incorporating both sentiments in one post.

I'm a Vietnam era vet and familiar with this sort of bonding and these oaths.

I read the article and laughed at its ludicrousness all the while crying for the loss of yet another future wasted and a family in grief. And in laughing and crying, I'm reconnected with my own humanity. Thank you.
