STD's and other nasty 'gifts'

I know I know... I've been away for a LONG time... checked in today for the first time in a while, and while reading the email section, found a letter from MS about contracting an STD on not one, but two occasions, from two different escorts.

STD's are an unfortunate fact of life, and in all likelyhood, if you are going to have sex, with anyone, whether it be man, woman, escort, sheep...(baa!), you will at some point in your life come into contact with someone with an STD. Remember I say 'in all likelyhood' this is not a definate.

So what do you do?

You could lock yourself in a bubble, with a huge collection of porn, and self service yourself for the rest of your life. And although that might sound intriquing, even appealing to some, it's not practical. We, human beings, especially males of the species, NEED human contact. So we engage in sexual activity, even with all of the potential nastiness out there....a SHORT list.....

hepatitis A,B,C, HIV, ghonorea, clamydia, HPV(warts), herpes, Syphilyis, molluscum, not to mention crabs, lice, scabies(referred to as 'the crawlies' below.....spelling on all of these is from my own mental dictionary, so don't have a shit if I'm wrong here: )

How to have SAFE SEX? You cannot have risk free sex, only safe sex, so protect yourself as best you can.

Condoms, use em. For ALL anal sex, These magic little numbers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and even colors and flavors, so there is one for everyone. These will protect you from most STD's, but not all, you can still get HPV, and the crawlies.

There have been threads here in the past about condoms for oral being used in the UK by a lot of escorts... why? Because they probably have gotten/spread STD's in the past, and want to prevent it.

I consider myself lucky. I've been doing this for three years now, and have only had three STD's. ONLY three, you say.... yes, only three, and I would have to say considering the amount of contact I've had, that's pretty damn good.

The unfortunate part is that I've passed them onto clients as well. (not to worry my former and hopefully future clients, I get checked regularly, and at first sign of a 'nasty' cancel everything for the next week, until treated)

Remember STD's don't just happen to your dick... your ass, mouth, skin are suseptable. You may not even know you have one... if it's oral, and you could be unknowingly be passing it on to the little treat you hired for the night. Then he goes and sees another client tomorow, and guess what? You got it, client # 2 has it... it goes on and on...

All you can do is play as safe as you can, and assume that there are risks.

thank you for listening.

The Clap

STD's are hard to pass around orally. The guy in the EM section said he used a condom and got the first instance orally, so even tho he didn't say, we gotta assume clap.

It's promiscious use of antibios which cause stronger and stronger strains. 12 years ago when I volunteered at a crisis switchboard, we sat through 4 hours of STD training. It's rare that the clap will show up in four days. Not impossible but rare.

The john coulda been undertreated by his MD, he coulda stopped talking the full course once physical symptoms left, yadda, yadda. I suspect it's one of those.

Esp if he got the same thing .... the actually sex act, esp super suck job, coulda brought a latent infection above. The six months thingie is tricky, tho. I'd like more facts, really.

NY Times reported a while back most folks tell their docs they take ALL their pills when as many as 60%+ don't -- from blood pressure to antibios. Even during the Anthrax scare when folks was dying, people stopped the full course b/c of side effects or just plain not wanting to.

If death won't make em do, a discharge will?

Main point? "VD is for everyone." You get em from a ho OR a regular joe. To single out working guys ain't right.

RE: The Clap

>STD's are hard to pass around orally.

No, they're not. Not all of them, anyway. Syphillis is being reported in this country in record numbers right now and it is easily transmitted through oral/genital contact. Just kissing someone who is orally infected is enough.

It's ironic, really. Condoms were invented to stem the spread of Syphillis. Birth control was a secondary use, and the third wave is HIV prevention. And Syphillis still spreads.

Glad this thread came up. Not to dwell upon the unpleasant...but this needs to be mentioned here every now and again. Matt...your comments sum it up honestly, rationally and well. Everybody here should know it...but not everybody thinks about it enough. There is no totally safe sex in the client/escort relationship. It's a matter of weighing the risks and taking reasonable precautions. It's another of those "contradictions" in the client/escort relationship. The pro's and con's are inextricably bound together. The good and bad come together. You just hope for more good than bad and when the bad or the risk of the bad becomes too much..you stop...that is if you are lucky enough to be able to and that it is not too late. And you hope you have not truly hurt anyone, given anyone a "nasty gift", demoralized or exploited anyone and that you have met someones needs a little in some way. Both clients and escorts. Truly the oldest profession and will always be with us....as will the contradictions.

I'm glad this thread came up, too.

Although hooboy thought enough of this email to put it on the email page, I thought his reply was flippant, unkind, and beneath my expectations of how he should have replied. For shame, hoo - you guys posted the proper response.

So I expect to be banned.:'(

RE: not funny issue

I don't think Hooboy's addition today is much better. I am really bothered by his insensitivity on this issue (std's). So Hooboy thought it was a hoax (??)(so say so!) - that doesn't excuse his responsibility to clients/escorts about the subject. With freedom (to have this website) goes responsibility about a related, dangerous, and important issue. Hooboy could have at least made a comment about safe sex or condom use rather than brushing the issue off with lottery (unfunny) gibe.:-(

Matt,

If I am way, way out of line with my first question, just say so, and I'll move on, but could you tell us what three STDs you had, what the treatments were and how long it took in each case to get well?

Nosey aren't we

Nothing too serious. Ghonorea once, and 'crawlies' twice.... ewwwww. disease bag street trash whore.... might as well have permanent drip.

: )

And to Joculover.... c'mon, pull yourself together!!

Does ownership of this website include shouldering the responsibility of educating the masses on STD's ??

From my understanding, this site is to share experiences, good or bad, that patrons have had with escorts...

Yes, that could include getting an STD(that would be bad), or it could be a review discribing a hot night of sweaty sex(that would be good).

Nowhere, that I can see, does this site say anything about the site owner(s) being required to offer counselling, nor does it say that t(he)y are experts in any topic involving human relations...... nope just a place to talk about hookers as far as I can see: )

Sheesh this sounds really harsh... my apolgies to joculover, I'm not attacking you.

Maybe the writer of that letter should have posted in the Lounge or something, at least then he could have gotten a wider sample of men to respond.

forgot to answer the damn question...

Too busy rambling on that I didn't respond to the treatment and duration question.

Ghonorea, as well as clamydia, can be taken care of with ONE pill. It used to be a week long cycle apparently, but through the magic of modern medicine... one pill will kill your ill.

after a day symptoms are gone, and after a week, you are safe to play with others again.

Crawlies, that's another story.

These critters are tough lil buggers. You might think they are all gone, but wait... ah the eggs have hatched. Re infestation! ugh! Back to the drug store you go... wearing dark glasses and a hat, attempting to be discreet when asking the pharmacist for the magic kill lotion. Meanwhile about 20 people are all standing around waiting for their prescriptions, among them, your 3rd grade teacher, your priest, and too make things even more uncomfortable, your grandmothers next door neighbor, who just had her batteries changed in her hearing aid, and now is equipped with super sonic hearing. No matter how quietly you ask the pharmacist for the 'magic cream', your grandma's neighbor will hear it all!!! And to make things worse, the pharmacist, being new to her position, calls to the back room to ask the head pharmacist, "hey which of the creams is good for CRABS"!!!!

You try to melt into the floor, but damnit, the laws of physics won't allow it. So you keep your head down... pay for the 'kill cream' and attempt to make as unobtrusive and exit as is humanly possible, but because of the dark glasses, your vision is not it's best, and you bump into a free standing rack of contraceptives, knocking it over, causing a chain reaction where the floor is littered with condoms, mouthwash, and candy bars. This makes the floor extremely dangerous terrain, and your feet slip up from under you, throwing you down into a pile of kitkats, with a bottle labeled "CRAB KILLER", sitting right in the middle of your chest.

So much for discretion....

whoa, too much caffeine this morning... gotta run.

Matt(aren't you glad I'm back: )

Hey Matt, I enjoyed reading what you had to say and have a lot of respect for the fact you actually disclosed passing some STDs on to clients. Unfortunately, I notified a very popular escort once and he flat-out denied having giving me the “gift” that keeps on giving. Well, from a personal view, I will always follow-up with partners if an STD event occurs, even if they behave like irresponsible assholes.

But to further your point, the GMHC, for me, is pretty much the “last word” on STDs. If you are sexually active, they recommend “full” periodic STD exams. As I have discovered, most straight physicians do not know or chose not to know about such things and do not recommend being tested if you appear asymptomatic. This is wrong! The GMHC’s advice is to find another physician (preferably gay) who will understand the importance of periodic STD screening. The GMHC publishes several documents on all aspects of gay sex. One in particular, “The ABCs of STDs” is very informative and GMHC will send this information free. Their number is (212) 367-1000. But wait, there’s more...ask for the GMHC Calendar of Events, for those of you in proximity to NYC, as they usually have some very good seminars.

RE: Nosey aren't we

My statement that hooboy has responsibility as well as freedom with this site is an expression of my existentialist philosophy (not a legal issue). Freedom and responsibility are 2 sides of the same coin in a human sense.

I am most offended by his flippancy about a serious and unavoidable association with the good value the site provides me and all of us. We have an individual and collective responsibility not to be dismissive of this inevitable side effect of the escort activities (buying and selling).

And by establishing this successful website hooboy has become a leader rather he chose that or not - an inevitable consequence of his well-deserved success.

I've never had an STD and hopefully never will. (I'm not a slut, I just play one on weekends.) You have, however, aroused my curiosity. I've never heard of this. What one pill would that be?

While this is by no means fool-proof, two good ways to improve your odds are a) to take a hot , soapy shower before and after a sexual contact and b) NOT to brush/floss your teeth within a few hours before sucking cock. Use those Listerene strips that are all the rage, or mouthwash, or put a little toothpaste on your finger and 'brush' that way, or chew gum, but don't create tiny little scars on your gums, which is what happens when you brush your teeth, before popping a dick in your mouth. It gives me the creeps when I see escorts "assuring" their clients that they brush before a date and asking that they do the same.

Re showering, it seems like every time you hear about an STD outbreak in SF it's concentrated in places like sex clubs (many of which don't have showers so you have to wash your dick in the sink) and/or backrooms (ditto). There's a reason hand washing is still considered one of the greatest medical advances. It's not a guarantee but it helps.

All that and nipples too....

>There's a reason hand washing is still considered one of the greatest

>medical advances. It's not a guarantee but it helps.

I do not believe it is unreasonable to ask your escort if he gets "periodic" check ups. However, without symptoms, there is really nothing to be checked. If you persisently give oral sex, you may not notice nor be aware of symptoms in your throat and waiting once a year for an annual physical may not suffice for a throat exam, especially when it might require a swab to tell.

I get tested annually for syphylis, which requires a blood test, have my urine culture done twice a year, have a throat check twice a year -- and I far more often have a tongue down there then I do a cock. I know what genital warts, genital herpes and Chlamydia would look like as well as the clear symtons of those STDs and gonorrhea. As a man who is not circumcised, I also need to be concious because the foreskin provides more opportunites for STDs to exist. I therefore, as Devon suggests, make sure I am exceedingly clean before I leave a client, or after the client leaves my home, and try to force urination immediately thereafter if not soon thereafter.

Of course, condom use is important and with respect to the earlier comments about Hoo Boy, I do wish to add my own "two cents." Perhaps I mis-read the original e-mail, but I thought the sender said he used a condom for anal sex and believed he got his STD from oral sex, for which he did not use protection?

In addition, as a site that deals with escorts and their clients, Hoo Boy could perhaps provide some links, but the one thing I have observed is that simply keeping track of resources can be a full-time job. It sounds like keeping track of escorts and new pictures, new e-mail addresses, who has retired, who has un-retired, fake reviews, and the like, keep Mr. Hoo Boy busy as it is, what with traveling from airport to airport to do market research....

In addition to GMHC, another excellent source on line particularly for both escorts and the men who hire us, is http://www.hookonline.org/res/health/ which has a table on STDs, FAQs and other resources, including regional and national listing.

Love is no substitute for condom use.

You make a good point, I thought is was a bit flippant myself, but I figured it's not his responsibility to educate us as patrons of this site.

Accepting a somewhat moral obligation does come with running this type of site, but I can also see how it would become overwhellming in a very short time.

oh and one or two more things....

I cannot stress how important it is to go get your shots for Hep A and B... most cities will offer the shots for free, if you are in a high risk group... Gay men are very High risk,....

I add this because a good friend of mine, who is intelligent, educated, and gay, recently contracted HepA through sexual contact...I was completly blown away that he hadn't had his shots. I forget that many men aren't aware of the risks.

Hepatitis, is about a hundred times easier to transmit than HIV, and though not as notorious, is pretty damaging, even deadly. So go talk to your doctor about getting your shots...

Usually the free testing/shots is done in free clinics...check your phone book for the one near you.

Chlamydia: Azithromycin 1g orally single dose

Gonorrhea: Ciprofloxacin 500mg orally single dose

Cipro resistant gonorrhea is emerging and some clinics now use Spectinomycin 2g intramuscular injection as standard.
