Anyone have any experience with Jason?

Back in June when I was going through a sort of smorgasbord of NYC escorts, I tried multiple times to contact Jason. He never answered and I figured with the 212 home phone number... maybe not even real. If someone has actually met him, let me know.

212 area code is normally the land line area code for Manhattan. 917 is normally the cell phone area code. (There are some cell phones with 212 I'm told and some land lines with 917 but very rare.) There is also 646 which is both cell and land line. So to see an escort posting with what appears to be a land line rather than a cell phone is odd.

Yes, an escort using a 212 number always sends up warning flags.

In the past 212 was for Land Lines and 917 for Cell phones. Now there are also 646 and 347 numbers. As 212 numbers are retired they get recycled often as cell numbers. It is not that rare anymore. If you are getting a new cell phone on a monthly plan you can request a 212 number.

Sounds like you have other reasons to doubt the guy than just the number though.

Cheers

Well there was a Time when 212 was usually connected to an answering machine!

I don't really think any 212 Numbers can really be considered a bad sign.

Of course IF it is a 212 # connected to a Public Phone on 42nd St & 9th Ave thats a different story! :D

Public Phones? They still have those in NYC? How cute!

When I first moved to New York, getting a 212 area code was next to impossible. At the time, it was the prestigious code indicating a long-term New Yorker.

Some of the older long term residence hotels provide phone service which is on the old and valued 212 area code. In any even, his Rentboy ad now has a new contact number: Mobile +1 646-330-9020. Feel better about him?

I am fascinated by phone numbers and interested to learn that 212is now easier to obtain for cel phones. Maybe someone can explain why some European area codes are of varying length?

Anyone met Jason, though?

I was just in Rio and on those few times I found myself outside a sauna (damn those Brazilian boys are addictive!) I noticed public phones everywhere. On a single pole there's be three different instruments. Seldom saw one in use though. Being from Gotham I found it sort'a quaint.

Area Codes

In Toronto, we have a similar area code heirarchy. For both cell & land-lines, 416 is used in Toronto proper, while 905 is used in suburbia. Since 2001, the 416 area code has been overlaid with 647. It is now almost impossible to get a 416 number & having a 647 number (like me) qualifies you as a newbie.

UK area codes vary in length depending on where you're calling from.

To use a Central London land-line example:

within London: 7123 4567

outside London, within UK: 020 7123 4567

from Canada/USA: 011 44 20 7123 4567 (initial 0 is dropped)

UK cell phone numbers are immediately distinguishable from land-line numbers. They are 11 digits long within the UK & start with 07. When calling UK cells from other countries, the initial 0 is dropped. eg:

within UK: 07941 106 112

Canada/USA: 011 44 7941 106 112

212 Manhattan Prefix

I have a 917 cell phone and a 212 land phone. I had the choice of disconnecting my land line and transferring the number to my cell phone. I decided I wanted both the land and cell phones. I'd guess that some chose to disconnect their land phones and transfer their number to a cell phone. Maybe one of these days I'll let go of the land line as indeed it can be considered a luxury since my cell phone costs less than the land. My cell phone is a replacement for a pager. Technology moves on.
