I think Fisher has said it better than most on this thread, including me! He gives a very balanced and realistic appraisal of both cities, Rio and Montreal, which happen to be, in my view, amongst the most beautiful in the world.

To the poster who asked how my nephew could have attracted robbers in broad daylight, I can only go by his account. His biggest mistake was that he had insufficient funds on him, less than $10 equivalent in reias. He and his wife were dressed modestly and had no jewelry. They had credit cards but the thieves didn't want them even though my nephew didn't resist giving them over. Apparently they knew they wouldn't get funds from them. Fortunately they were not hurt, just shaken up as anyone would be with a knife at their throat. It definitely cast a pall on their vacation.

When I was in Brazil, I always carried with me at least by about $50 worth of local currency, thinking if I got robbed, it would be enough to satisfy the robbers in a quick snatch and grab.

I agree Luv2play, Fisher did a better job than myself and completely contrasted the differences between the two cities. I entered the thread thinking that Rio was getting a bad wrap, but Fisher completely made my point.

Rio may not be for everyone, but for me, it's the closest I've found to heaven on earth, with it's spectacular beachers, gorgeous guys, and a passion toward life that's unique to Brazil. Words simply cannot describe the experiences I've had there and so enough has been said.

Gar1eth, e-mail us at info@gaytravelbrazil.com, and we'd be glad to give you a free membership. Since many of us first met on this site and became free members initially from here, we'd offer the same to any members here.

We arrange gay guides (not rent boys) in Brazil, but while they're off the clock is none of our concern. :)

Welington (our guide) is on the far right.

I'd also like to say thanks to Daddy for adding our logo as an affiliate ad on the intial page here. He was supportive of us from the very beginning and we'll never forget. Muito obrigado.

Can someone explain more about hiring a guide? I am not signed up for the gay travel Brazil site, and as a non-member, it didn't give much information. Are these guys strictly tour guides or combination tour guides/escorts?

Drey's email address is at his site: http://www.gaytravelbrazil.com. I'd suggest that you mail your query directly to him, but in a thread at his site, he intimated that Welington-- his present English-speaking guide in Rio de janeiro serves-- only as a guide. Ask Drey about Welington's hourly/daily rates, too.

If I manage to get to Rio in October, I plan to engage the services of Welington for some of my special outings! -:)

As someone who has been traveling to Montreal since 1999,

and Rio since 2005, I don't think you can realy compare the

two cities (apples & oranges). I do like both apples and oranges

and Both Montreal & Rio have brought me numerous and long

lasting, happy memories.

Regarding safety - Montreal is certainly alot safer than Rio.

However, Rio is no Baghdad. I have never felt nervious or

affraid whilst in Rio. While no place is 100% safe and even

in the safest of places you can still become a victim of crime

(the cousin of a friend of mine was murdered-by gun-in oh so

safe Canada), if you follow common sense and the guidelines

from GayTravelBrazil you should be safe.

Regarding the Brazilian guys and machismo. Well they are mostly

very "straight" acting this does not prevent them from sticking

their tongue far enough down to tickle your tonseils. For many of

the sauna boys, this is there only source of income and by Brazilian

standards it is quite good, by being a top only it limits the ability to

earn their income; therefore, most are also versitle; however, you

need to be descrete when you ask them-they don't want everyone

to know their business. Your encounter with your Brazilian sauna boy

can be what you want - rough hot sex; or a passionate caressing

"boyfriend" experience. Most who bottom (unless they're brand new)

will be able to satisfy you with gusto and passion.

Another thing I like about Rio is that you can spend the day at the

beach (with a sexy sauna boy or two). Nonetheless, I also enjoy

walking the hills and street of Montreal - I'll be there in August.

In Montreal, it is easier getting around and communicating if you

only speak English - especial with working boiz, then it is in Rio...

however even for the linguistically imparied, it is still relatively easy

to get laid in Rio.

Of course the bigest difference is in the Rio saunas the garotos are

sex workers ... it is legal and there is no need to be coy ... the fees

are also alot cheaper then in Montreal. In the Montreal strip clubs,

many claim they are dansers, not escorts, and are very limited in what

they will do - after a good many dances they become much more liberal

in what they will do, but even so there is only so much you can do in the

confines of the private dance booth.

Both Montreal & Rio are wonderful cities with so many wonderful,

super sexy, working boiz.

Tchau,

Fisher

-:) -:) Fisher, I love what you wrote and do hope that all read it very carefully. In my seven visits to Rio, I've stayed in Copacabana, don't speak Brazilian Portuguese (much to my chagrin), have traveled with a guide at times, with my American friend at times, solo many times (both day and night) in taxis as well as on the buses, from my first trip (October 2002 until October 2007), I've always used the salient and superb guidelines that are offered at this site as well as at http://www.gaytravelbrazil.com.

Again, if one conducts himself/herself accordingly in terms of traveling in an unknown city and using "street smarts" and being "street savvy" it is hoped that he/she does not encounter any horrific events. I've had no problems in Rio and truly do hope that none await me in the future.

I enjoyed all the posts herein and I always enjoy the posts about experiences in other countries.

Ax, isn't the national language of Brazil Portuguese? I don't speak either Spanish or Portuguese but I think you follwed it up with a Portuguese expression. Oh, well, it all doesn't matter, does it? As a comic said one time, if all those people didn't speak a foreign language, they wouldn't have anyone to talk to.

Best regards,

KMEM

Guest Fisher

Thank you for those who appreciated my little

summary of Montreal & Rio. Just to add a litte more...

IRT Montreal:

I just want to restate the feeling of happiness

and contentment the I get when I am walking

down Rue Ste Catherine ... whether its on the

west end in the afternoon, shopping at the Bai,

or other shops, having lunch at one of the sidewalk

cafes. Or if its in the evening, walking down the east

end of Rue Ste Catherine (after spending the afternoon

at Campus). Looking for a nice restaurant for dinner,

seeing all the happy gay couples walking hand-in-hand,

and planning on which stripclub to spend the evening at.

IRT Rio:

I also want to restate the feeling of happiness

and contentment the I get when I am walking

down Rua Siqueira Campos ... whether its in the late

morning and I am heading to the beach with some

friends and some sauna bois, or it is at night and I

am heading to Corijinahs after an evening at the saunas

also accompanied by some friends and sauna bois.

FYI for those who are interested in going to Rio, but are

alittle apprehnsive, I strongly recommend the services

of Drey at http://www.Gaytravelbrazil.com I was nervious my

first trip to Brazil, but he provided me with outstanding

service and a superb guide that showed me all the ropes

regarding the sauna scene.

Finally, in addition the the stripclubs/saunas there is a whole lot

of typical tourist things to do in both cities: In Montreal, the

views from the top of the Stade Olympique & Mount Royal are

breathtaking. In Rio, the views from Pao de Acucar & Corcovado

is something you have to experience. Both cites have outstanding

museums, shopping and other fun things to do.

Tchau & Adieu,

Fisher
