I don't watch the show (I don't have cable) but I do have a friend who works for Fox and he gave me some news that even I found very exciting and figured I'd pass it along to you (don't read any further if you don't want to know).

What I found out is: Season 8 is finally over on Wednesday, so we won't have to hear about it any more! Woo-hoo!! :p

They've been airing that crap for 8 years...good christ.

Now if the whole Fox network would just implode that would be exciting news.

Hugs,

Greg

Except for the Simpsons and Family Guy. I'd settle for watching Bill-O and Insannity's heads exploding though.

Wow another post by Rick dismissing American Idol, not that the previous plethora of posts haven't made his opinion obvious. One wonders why he bothers. If the posts were funny, that might be something, but I haven't found any of them as funny as even the worst of his groan worthy puns. If they advanced social discourse on any of the many social issues in which Rick has an intense and educated opinion, with which I may not always agree but always find thought provoking, then it might be worth the time spent in my reading and in his writing them. If they were just a manifestation of someone who needs to say something about everything, I would ignore that, but I know Rick to be other than that kind of person. I can tell you this, his posts, denigrating AI and by association those that find it to have some role in their life, have made me feel bad, usually just briefly but longer than need be, for enjoying a guilty pleasure I have earned the right to enjoy. A little bit of fluff that allows me an hour of entainment with little challenge when I come home from a job that can sap you emotionally and physically. A guilty pleasure that gives me something in common with my great aunt at 85 who is a fan, my 8 year old niece and many of my coworkers. If I wanted great music, I have an extensive CD collection of things I love. If I wanted world view challenging discourse, I would look elsewhere. So Rick, I would like to say, you have made your points about AI, the small one about the quality of the acts and the larger one about the interest that American and its media bestows on fluff when there is so much more that needs our attention. So as to AI if there is a fresh take, a funny take, a thought provoking take, please post away. If there is just more of the same, I would appreciate your holding off.

By he way. I thought Danny should have won.

Sheesh, I was just playing. It does say "The Smart Ass" under my name, you know. But anyway, aren't there American Idol themed message boards out there on the internets? Why aren't you posting about the show on those boards, instead of on an escort themed board? I'm not suggesting you shouldn't post about it here, but why do you feel that others should have the right to post, week after week, about how much they love American Idol, but I can't post (occasionally) that I think it sucks?

Maybe that's something to be discussed with a therapist. Btw, I've never said anything denigrating people who watch these shows. Are you saying that, when someone has something negative to say about an escort, they are denigrating clients who like that particular escort? Or are you able to separate yourself then? I love Diana Ross, but when I meet someone who thinks she's a horrible diva who can't sing, I don't take it personally. I don't even think about it twice. Why are you taking it personally if I make a post saying how excited I am that American Idol's season is ending? Does that really harm your relationship with your aunt and your niece?

You twice referred to American Idol as a "guilty pleasure." Wikipedia says: "A guilty pleasure is something one considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. Often, the guilt involved is simply fear of others discovering one's lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, rather than actual moral guilt." Perhaps that's why you can't just roll with it and say, "Well, Rick doesn't like it but I do." You seem to feel guilty for enjoying this show.

Btw, in case you didn't notice, Taylor, Greg and BoN seem to agree with me, so :p:p:p
