only speaking for myself here...massage can have two components--the relaxation of the actual massage, and the sensuality of having another person putting his hands all over your body. When I seek a massage, first and foremost I want the stress relief and relaxation..The sensuality to me, comes second. But I must admit, I want my masseur to be someone I think of as cute. If you are able to get the relaxation part AND still have a sensual and/or erotic time to go with it as well, then you have hit the jackpot..

Good question. Almost all of my massages have been by masseuses, most of whom were named Olga and most of whom outweighted me by about 50 pounds. Which, of course totally took any sexual feelings out of the picture.

But the thought of a sensual or erotic massage sounds quite appealing and I suspect I’m going to pursue that before too long. But, for me it would be only with a licensed masseur since the physical massage would be my primary goal. If I’m only trying to satisfy my sexual needs, an escort would be my first choice.

I have had "erotic massage" only a handful of times, because the kind of muscle relaxation I get from a good massage (my favorite is shiatsu) doesn't seem to fit well with the physical tension of hot sex. Since the erotic "release" almost always comes at the end of the session, the massage experience itself seems to be wasted.

I don't get sensual massage either. I have massages on a regular basis and I have a very good masseuse. I have never had any thoughts of sex or sexual feelings during massage any more that when I would when I visit the doctor. For me it is strictly therapeutic (and very relaxing). If I want to have a sexual experience, I would have it with a willing partner or an escort.

But to each his own:)

I guess some people feel sexually stimulated when someone touches their body. It takes a bit more for me to become "engaged".

I work as a cmt and clients are surprised that I have never purchased a sensual massage. Like orbital sander I treat it like a trip to the doctor. I like really deep work that I can still feel the next day. And I have never gotten an erection from receiving a massage. In my practice I offer a therapeutic only or a combination of therapeutic and sensual. however I won't sell a sensual only or light touch massage. If asked which type I prefer to do it would be therapeutic session. Its a great feeling knowing to brought relief to those who suffer from chronic pain. That's what interested me in massage in the first place. I suffered from chronic back pain for 7 years before my first massage reversed that pain..

I'm on the same page as Lurker. I get much more massage than hiring companions and to me, it's apples to oranges. The focus of massage is getting a great massage, foremost. If not, then I don't return. I always find masseurs who provide release which, for me, is just another aspect of relaxation and completion. I love that fact that I can be very lazy and the work is 100% focused on my relaxation. Sure you could do that with an escort but then I LIKE pleasing my partner when having sex. The interaction is fun. And yes, massage can be interactive but that's just icing on the cake. It's more like a reverse muscle worship of sorts! ;)

For example, the other day I had a fantastic massage from a straight guy (clothes on) who left my body elated and my legs like jelly because of excellent hand work and a prostate stimulation finale. It was a great experience even though this guy would have no interest in full on sex with me. And, I have to mention, it cost much less than half the charge for a companion.

And not to harp on costs (though it IS a recession) I posted a discussion in the massage forum because I was similarly baffled. Some masseurs who do "erotic only" (whatever that is) massage charge almost as much as a companion. In that case, I agree--I don't know why you wouldn't just hire an escort if the massage is actually focused on sex and the price is nearly the same...

Bottomline, sometimes I want to be pampered, relaxed and walk away feeling refreshed and only slightly lighter in the wallet. Other times I want sexy, raunchy, playful fun with a hot guy and have the funds and the inclination to seek someone out.

Therapeutic and Eroptic

I have found the need for good deep therapeudic massage and I also fi8nd I get (usually) very turned on by a guys wonderful touch and thus I want it left to me to invite him right on up and to use his body as much as his hands. I find i usually leave in total bliss but only if the masseur has a good touch, nice personality and seems to enjoy the extras as much as I do!

I totally agree with guy4u, I love a fantastic massage, I actually usually go to Chinese Shatsu place in NY, I usually get an amazing experiences, totally relaxed. But sometimes I just want to feel that intimacy you get with another guy, but without the full on sex, so I go to a sensual massage with a guy I find attractive. I think we human from time to time really need to be touched to stay mentally and physically healthy, that's why I do it, and I think that's why a lot of other guys do it.

I often refer to myself as a "massage *****". (EDIT: Oops, I guess that word is not allowed on here. It rhymes with 'more')

I have been known to get 3 hour massages ... but rarely do that anymore because you're basically worthless for the rest of the day afterward.

I prefer masseurs who are open to erotic massages. HOWEVER, I rarely (if ever) receive one. That may seem contradictory, but it has been my experience that the overall technique of these guys is much more to my liking. They tend to be more sensual, and I'm not talking about sex.

The last thing I usually want after a nice relaxing massage is to be worked up and brought to climax. If that was something that I was looking for, I would prefer to climax at the start of our time together, and then receive the massage. Now that would certainly be a "happy beginning".

What's not to like?

You asked why is massage so popular? I can tell you why I enjoyed it tonight (and frequently).

A really hot muscle guy (personal trainer) just left after giving me a great, hour long trained deep tissue massage. During the cool down period, he began to fondle various parts of my body. That was followed by some playful tongue action on the same areas. Next thing I know, he is brushing his lips past my lips. Of course various parts of my body began to show a bit of tension (read hardening). These parts were immediately treated to some additional tongue and lip work.

Well, one thing led to another as you can tell, and in another hour there was something slick and gooey all over my bed other than the massage creme.

Mind you, I booked an hour massage and the above described activity happens more often than not. It is however at the discretion of the masseur. He decides whether there is any play after the massage.

I have reached a stage where I now have a massage 2 or 3 times a week. (I get VERY tense...mostly from reading this board...heheh) I have 4 or 5 guys I use on a regular basis and while we have become very close, I don't have to buy any jewelry.

Anyway, that's why I enjoy it.

Others may have a different opinion, but this works for me very well.;)

Jackhammer, would you share whom you hire usually?

Want to be sure I say this the right way.

What happens in sessions can vary from masseur to masseur and from client to client. There is also chemistry to consider. What turns me on in a man may not be what spins the dial for you.

I will say all of the guys I am currently using work off of Craig's List here in Los Angeles.

I know some have had bad experiences with CL. With one or two exceptions, the guys who advertised are the guys who showed up. Of those, some were either unqualified or so self absorbed that I didn't have much fun. Through trial and error I have happened on a number of guys who work well for me.

My advice is communicate your desires and expectations. Be clear with any limits. When looking at masseur ads, I stay away from guys who advertise with a lot of pics. They are a bit too jaded and are more likely to show up expecting to rub you for 15 minutes before giving you a hand-job and taking off. Take as much time as you need to make your choices. I always talk by phone with anyone before they come to my home.

And have a great time.
