I was in Montreal when I learned the news of the closing of the Gaiety. It came as a complete surprise when I heard the news from Stock/Gaiety dancers. Fortunately, Denise had called a few dancers to inform them of the closing and told them not to show up at the G for the weekend show.

On Saturday, March 19th, the Stock Bar management called the dancers in for an early evening meeting. It seems that the Stock is having more liquor license problems and will be under a different schedule.

Tentatively, starting Monday, the Stock will be closed on Mondays-Wednesdays and open for business the rest of the week. No liquor will be served.

Stock Bar will provide transportation to the West Side Bar, (also owned by Stock), where the Stock dancers will be performing. This new schedule could possibly last for 3 weeks.

The Stock Bar took over the West Side Bar in Oct. '04 and business has been very slow, mostly due to it's location. It's a modern looking bar with a small stage and back booths more similiar to Campus. There are no curtains and lap-dances are $10.

When I went to the West Side Bar on Thursday, there were only 3 dancers and about a dozen customers. Hopefully, business will pick as the Stock tries to work out it's liquor license problems.

Perhaps some Montreal board members can keep us updated as to this change.

Now, what can I say about the Gaiety closing? :-( It's been such a big part of my life for the past 4 years. Hopefully, the enthusiasm Foxy and I shared with you in our weekly reviews will be our testimony as to how we feel. We loved the place and will miss it tremendously.

First Gaiety. Now Stock! What next!! Having their liquor license suspended is bad news, for most Montrealers and visitors alike prefer having their favorite beverage served up along with the naked bodies! }(

IMO the West Side Bar is a losing proposition because of its location. Montreal's three other male stripper bars are all located in the Gay Village and within walking distance of each other, Parking is a major hastle in downtown Montreal and tickets are handed out within minutes of commiting a parking violation (I once got a ticket outside a gay sauna 2 minutes after the parking meter had expired).

I think this will only serve to drive customers (and dancers) to the other bars, Campus, Adonis and Taboo (altho I can only think of one Stock dancer who would fit in at Taboo). Hopefully Stock will get their license problems resolved quickly. If I hear of anything, I will post the info.

Thanks Coop for the update on Stockbar. I plan on going to Montreal in 2 weeks and will give a progress report. Stock is my favorite Montreal strip club and Tomy is my favorite waiter there. I hope things get resolved before I arrive. I would also appreciate any STock updates from the local men. As for Westside BAr, it's a good 5+ minute taxi ride from the STock or about a $7 ride. All this sad news is driving me to drink!

Is the Stockbar's problems just about it's liquor license? A dancer told me that when Le Stock moved into it's new location on Ste. Catherine's St. there was a zoning problem. Something about it being too close to another strip club, the Campus. Apparently the code said that strip clubs have to be 2 or more blocks away from each other. Does anyone know if this was resolved?

Not to worry. Stock has been operating without a proper erotic license for over a year. They are being punished for it, but will be back, fully legal, in three weeks.

>Not to worry.

I don't think you'd be saying that if you were in Montreal this week. The dancers are worried, not only about the loss of business but the future of the Stock. The dancers I spoke with said that the 3 week penalty was just a suggestion and that nothing was definite. Also, many of the dancers have had a tough time this winter and business was bad. They were looking forward to Spring and the return of the tourists. This will only make matters worse.

Maybe if they brought their prices in line with every other club in Montreal the buisness would be a little bit better.

It really takes a lot of balls to charge double the rate of the other clubs and then whine about buisness being "slow"-get real!

Obviously you've never done a lap dance at Le Stock, for if you did you would realize that the Stock's prices are no different from any other club. The Stock has open curtain dances for $10 the same as Campus, Taboo, Adonis, and West Side. If you want to do a closed curtain dance it's $20 and you can do a lot more with the dancer. You can't get that at Taboo.

Baby,I have had PLENTY of lap dances at the Stock, both in the old location(St.Andre-much more fun than the Saint Catherine location)and the new.

While it is true that there are$10 dances at the new stock-the NORM is the $20 version, which I feel is a grand rip-off.

I am happy they are suffering-they need to wake up and the Owner needs to spend less time on hs web-cast buisness and more time tending to the buisness that brought him his primary success.

Honey, the norm at Stock is for the dancers to push the $20 dances, it's human nature for them to try to get the most out or the customer, but I've had plenty of great $10 dances there. You just have to tell the dancer what you want. I've never had a dancer tell me they won't do the $10 dances. I think the biggest rip off in Montreal is at Taboo with their cock-blocking monitor who constantly walks in and out of the back room making sure the customers don't touch a single pubic hair on the dancers.

>I am happy they are suffering-they need to wake up...

Sweetie, the best lap dances one can get in Montreal are at Le Stock, whether it be the $10 or $20 dance. Unfortunately, it's not just the Stock dancers who are "suffering" this winter. It's a seasonal thing and all the clubs have been slow.

I think it's extremely mean-spirited of you to say you're "happy they are suffering". Think of how you would feel if your place of employment was temporally closing. Loss of income for anyone is nothing to rejoice about, too bad you don't realize that.

I am sorry, but IMO the stock boys do as little as possible for their do re mi,did not use to be that way-but now it is the norm.

Best is not the word I would use to describe the dances,I think campus blows Sock out of the water as far as having the widest choice of guys-but again that is subjective to ones taste in men.

And if you do not mind paying double for the same thing-go ahead be my guest. And if you don't mind that the general level of stage performances has taken a downward turn-again please continue to patronize Le Stock. If you do not mind that Sylvain(the "owner"of Le Stock)has told his "dancers"not to dance-because the web-cam suscribers complain that it is just a blur on the screen-thus the low energy level at Le Stock over the last year, brings down the whole tone of the club,Then hey-more power to you,but don't expect me to have any sympathy towards the dancers or the "owner"because their actions have taken the predictable toll.

Talk about sweetness and light! All the Honeys and Sweeties being tossed around here! :7 Anyway, I think that hot dances can be had at Campus or Stock (I hesitate to comment on Adonis or Taboo since the guys there don't appeal to me).

I passed by Stock late this afternoon (Monday) and there was no indication by means of a sign on the door that anything was amiss. The posted sign indicated they would be open at 6pm. We'll see! I ran into an acquaintance outside and he said the bar was closed yesterday and the dancers went to a Cabane a Sucre (no, not a suck cabin but a sugar shack)! The sap is running!!!Yummm.

I agree that this is a bad time for a stripper bar to have its operations suspended but it would be worse at the height of the tourist season so hopefully Stock will have everything straightened out by then.

BGP:

I was at Stock this weekend. I was in town for one night only. I arrived late and tired, at the end of a grueling week. I chose the dancer I was most interested in and, as we got to the back room, he asked me "closed curtain or open?"

I asked him to explain the difference -- even though I knew full well what the difference was -- because I wanted to see what he would say. He said "we talk about full contact or no contact" and was very nice about it. I told him to leave the curtain open. I also, in a very easy-going way, told him that the number of dances would depend entirely on how interested he kept me.

Needless to say, his clothes came off quite quickly, he kept me very interested and we stopped only after a large number of dances. I stayed for a while longer and then left, still tired but somewhat rejuvenated. For a bit more than $200 Canadian, I had enjoyed more than 20 dances with a nice, bright, sexy young guy who is, unfortunately, leaving Stock in a couple of weeks as he moves from Montreal.

People who pay $20 per dance do so only because they choose to, not because it's necessary in any way to having a very good time in the back room.

Glad you found the,to me at least, exception to the rule Boston Guy-you deserve to be treated well.I could never think of spending only one night in Montreal-just got back from a four day stay and felt that was too short!

My friend, the Ventura Vixen(some of the hoovillians I met up with in Montreal got to meet him this trip)is-or should I say was-a Stockbar fanatic!Spending thousands in a night on back room dances. This trip he went ONCE during a ten day visit.I know this will come across as hearsay since only a couple of the posters here have seen Vixen in action, but to me it speaks volumes.

Will the stock survive?Of course it will. Will they prosper?Only if they change their buisness practices.

I agree completely that the current Stock bar is but a shadow of its former St. Andre days-self. The guys were friendlier then (less attitude,) the price of a private dance was not offered with a good, better option (they were all better at $10 a song) and you could easily spend an evening chatting with the staff/guys and watching the dancers without feeling the need to move to another club. I miss it alot and find I spend very little time in Stock when in Montreal these days. I hope the club finds a way to recapture what made it such a favorite in the past ;(

Thank you. :-)

BGP, that was most kind of you and I appreciate it.

This is NOT the first time, that Stock had problems with regulations or whatever. They were even closed for a time after moving to present location.

But I still get a chuckle when thinking about the current Gaity Alumni dancers telling the newbies how great and lucrative their trips to NYC were in the ´old days´ of the Gaity. Perhaps they can teach the new boy a little about Customer Service, instead of Customer DISservice trying to make a decent living.

In the interests of serving this community ;-) I went back to the Stock tonight to see what was up and, lo and behold, they were open for business and serving booze. I asked "what gives" and was told by a dancer (Jordon) that they were open until possibly the weekend, and then they would be closed (maybe 3 weeks).

I then offered to buy Jordon a drink (he actually ordered it and I offered to pay) and we talked, which led to him asking me whether I wanted a dance and I agreed. To make a long story short, he talked me into the $20 dances (that part was fairly easy as he said he could be quite "nasty" (his word)). He then proceeded to show me his take on "nasty".

Well, I was impressed except (and here's the big BUT), he didn't get hard, despite my best efforts (and I'm usually pretty successful). So I wound it up after 2 songs and proceeded to pay him $40. He asked for $120 (for the extras!). I was outraged and told him so. We got into a big argument, I told him I had never been treated this way (true) but he would not let me exit the area until I had forked over an additional $10 (that may seem like a victory for me but a lot of to-ing and fro-ing went into this, believe me).

I left the bar immediately and was sufficiently pissed off that I went straight to Campus, had another diet cola, and hired Sebastien for a dance. He was very nice, got hard without any problem, and for $10 a dance, satisfied me. A "tale of two clubs"! }(

What a perfect illustration of what's going wrong at that club these days. I know the guys must be hurting for business in the winter months, however hustling at that level will only make for even more scarce company in the back. I've been talked into the $20 dances before and found they are not distinguishable enough to warrant a doubling of the price tag. Here's hoping for a return of the old Stock bar ways when they get the liquor license issue straightened out.

In someone's famous words, "it depends" -- in this case on the dancer, the day, and probably the phase of the moon.

Let's not forget that only a short while ago someone reported that Nathaniel was pushing $20 dances at Campus, which aren't even officially on the menu. I've heard other such stories about Campus. I've known dancers who would do/allow most anything for $10 one day and ask for extra payment for the same thing the next.

I've had this experience only at Campus and Stock -- perhaps because the back rooms at Taboo and Adonis are so much more open and public.

I find that as I become more seasoned (jaded?), it's the dancer's personality more than anything else that makes for a great private dance -- that's why people keep coming back again and again to the Phils and Pascals, who never seem stale, mechanical, or more focussed on your wallet than on you.

Are you UP for it, everyday?

I suspect, the different attitudes on some days have more to do with their ability to perform, then anything else!

There were a couple of bag eggs, who treated a number of people with the same aggressive behavior.

It is really up to the Management to screen this out and control it, if they value their business.

Luv, thanks for the update on Le Stock. I'll be in Montreal in 2 weeks and was concerned if the bar would be opened or not. Last night I called the bar and was told they are still open and probably will be serving liquor up till Thursday, after that they didn't know. I was also told they will be closed Mon-Wed, starting 3/28, and open the other nights. This is all part of a "punishment" placed on Le Stock by the courts for operating without a nude dancers license. If all goes well, it will last for only 3 weeks. Just my luck that I'll be there during that time.

Luv, a friend of mine also had a problem with Jordan in the back room. This time it was about counting the number of songs. My friend said they did 4 and he said 7. They got in an argument and my friend's night was ruined. I think Jordan tries this shit on many guys.
