Does anyone remember these strip clubs in NY when the Gaiety had some competition? The Show Palace was destroyed to make for the "new" 42nd Street but it's mirrored walls hung on for the longest time while construction was underway. If those morrors could talk! The things that went on in that theater. Naked guys coming down off the stage for a $1.00 lap dance. Lots of activity in the audience and 3 groey little theaters to choose from. They used to have live sex shows on the weekend and during the week the dancers would line up and have jerk off contests.

The Eros was a little too sleazy for me, as was the Show Place. The latter, however, got some great porn headliners so I occasionally ventured in. The aggressive of the dancers compared to the Gaiety deterred me though.

The Adonis Theater was the first gay venue I entered. Boy was I shocked to see all those guys who weren't interested in the movie! Another seedy place, my first hustler bar, was the Haymarket on Eighth. (I think that was the name!) I thought I was gonna get robbed just by walking in the door.

So foxy, if those mirrors could talk, what would we learn about you?:)

My goodness! I thought that I was the only one that was a dirty YOUNG man (have since transformed into the obvious!).

The Eros was always sleazy. The only advantage, if it was one, is that a private could be had for $40 in the little dancer ready room downstairs. For the most part, was too sleazy for me.

The Show Palace was a differenct story. Think I spent most of the '80s there. Never thought the dancers were too agressive, but then I was never shy about letting guys know if I wasn't interested. For me, it certainly was more than just a lap dance for my dollar. Can't tell you the number of guys that I blew and rimmed right in the theater! My favorite memory might be the night Rod Garetto walked up to me and just stuck his dick in my mouth.

Ahh, youth!

Wow. I hadn't thought about the Show Palace in a while. I guess I've come a long way from panting, sordid groping in a filthy, sleazy strip club to hiring top notch hustlers in 5 Star hotel rooms.

There were quite a few gems among the dirty crackhead dancers. I can remember being there on a very slow rainy night. I was one of three guys in the audience. This one tall swarthy European with a ten inch dick just stood there letting me stroke the foreskin up and down over his rock hard piece. I had never seen a dick so big and hard. He just stood over me grinning until the announcer called the guys away. I came back the next night and watched a horse hung black guy brutally throat fuck this customer two seats down the row. The customer begged for his load, pulling tens and twenties out of his wallet until the dancer complied.

(...back in the good old days when the porn shops and bodegas down the street still sold REAL poppers.)

Do places like that exist anywhere anymore?

Certainly not in New York City any longer. Seeing those names again brought back alot of memories.

How about these for some of you 80's New Yorkers, like the NYC version of the Follies theater? How about the Park Miller theater, the home of PM Productions. How about the Big Top theater on 49th and Broadway near the legendary Rivoli Theater. Then from there down in the village was West World.

There was the 55th Street Playhouse which actually got some coverage in Variety with the world premiere of the Casey Donovan movie Boys in the Sand. Speaking of movies, there's the legendary film A Night at the Adonis. That starred Jack Wrangler among others. It most certainly captured a piece of what life and cruising was like in the 80's in New York City.

Sigh, when I visit the city now and go along 42nd street and remember what it used to be and now see stores on 8th avenue run by Pakistani's selling bootleg tapes. I miss the 80's.

I loved all of them. ("They were too sleazy for me."??? x( Hell, I couldn't get enough!)

My favorite was the Eros. For $40 I could have a private in that tawdry little room with a boy from the ethnic group of my choice. My first escort experience was with a Brazilian dancer from the Eros who gave me his number. I called and did an in call at his apartment in Chelsea. He was over 6 feet, studly, named Peter.

I really miss those places. :-(

Thanks for all the memories - the Haymarket was my favorite bar of all time. I became a "dirty old man" in my late twenties and never looked back. Did anyone used to go to the straight live fucking shows? They were often quite hot. Now that I'm really a dirty old man I wish all those clubs were still here. Like you said, the Gaiety was one of five or more choices each week. And how about 53rd Street? Rounds, Cowboys and Cowgirls, and 24-7 street cruising. Thank God for Brazil! I wish it wasn't so far away.

Back in the early 80's when I was still young and dumb, I traveled to New York. The first night, I discovered the Haymarket and most of the other places mentioned. For a kid from sleepy Phoenix, it was quite an education. I still remember being surprised to have a hustler from the Haymarket offer to blow and rim me for a new pair of shoes (I had told him I did not have cash, only a credit card, this was pre ATM).

If Eros was the name (8th AVE), that is where I was jerked off in the lobby with my back to the wall by a 5' putty (skinny) with a promise of another jerk after the show. And he did cum through.

Are there any places in the U.S. today that are like this? The closest I ever experienced was about 6 years ago at the Campus in san Francisco during a 20-man show that got out-of-hand, with lots of sex between the strippers on stage and lots and lots of audience members busily sucking them off in the audience area, along with them sucking each other off too. It was incredibly hot. Wish there were more such opportunities for such fun.

Anyone know of any places like that?
