Favorite Holiday Songs

Okay, we all have those songs that just capture the season for us. Here is a list of mine

 

1)Santa Baby-Eartha Kitt (This is my all time favorite-such a materialistic song-what gay man would not love it)

2)The Christmas Song -Nat King Cole (This needs no explanation)

3)Chistmas(Baby Please Come Home)-Darlene Love

4)Merry Christmas Darling-The Carpenters

5)All I want For Christmas -Mariah Carey

6)Hey Santa - Wilson-Phillips

7)Anything on Barbra Streisand's Christmas Album

 

I know that there are a few more but that is all I can think of right now.

Unto Us a Child is Born (where all of those booming basses (hit you right in the gonads) are proclaiming some of the more regal names for my Lord)

and almost all of the classic hymns - Away in a Manger, Adeste Fidelis, Oh come oh come Emanuel, etc. etc.

Scarlet Ribbons (don't hear it very much any more - Wonder if it can still make me cry even though I know its a sucker punch?)

But my favorite vocal is Cher's version of "O Holy Night".

However Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas.." just gets to me. The opening bars of it get me choked up every time. Great sound production.

Not lame at all. Most Christmas music gags me, but I love that Mariah Carey song.

 

I’m also really liking Destiny’s Child “Here comes Santa Claus.” It’s still Christmas cute, but has a great beat. Not being a big fan of these songs…does anyone know if this is a remake of a classic song or something brand new?

The CD that's in my player right now is Brenda Lee's "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree".

 

But it doesn't seem like Christmas to me until I've seen the movie "White Christmas" and heard the song.

I haven't heard Destiny's Child's version of here comes Santa Claus, so I can't be sure, but there is an old standard by that name, which has been updated in covers by a lot of people over the years. So, yes, theirs is probably a cover, too.

I think that Cheech and Chong's song is called "Santa Claus and His Old Lady". It is available on some Rhino Christmas compilation.

I heard a song today that instantly became one of my favorites, "Osama Got Run Over By A Reindeer".

 

"There were hoofprints on his turban/

And a reindeer antler up his...ho,ho,ho"

 

But, seriously, my all-time favorite is "The Little Drummer Boy" performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

 

Also, any music from The Nutcracker.
