Met up with a couple Hoovillians for an informal brunch and while I was there (just out of curiosity, you understand) took several passes of SMB. Now, some might not expect much on a Sunday afternoon, but it's usually not hard to find something to at least take a look at in passing.

Not so now, nor the previous two times I've been in the area recently. *Nothing* on SMB most passes (not even at the SMB/Orange corner). Just one or two black drag queens on the other passes.

Now, Lexington, (1 block N of SMB) on the other hand did have one or two (nothing to write home about, but I think I glanced *one* cuttie with bright pale blue eyes I'd taken around the block once a while ago).

So I hope the cops are happy, they've managed to move it out of an industrial area smack into a residential one (I guess the point is less tourists see it). I know the residents aren't happy, there was an old guy out on the corner of Lexington and something (E of Highland) with a clipboard, writing down passing plate numbers, I'm pretty sure.

Sure, you may occasionally see a couple guys on SMB once in a while, but that's the exception now. It really is 180 degrees from where it was a year ago. Now anybody you see on SMB lives on the street and lives for Crystal. I know I've been surprised at the change before, but each new season it hits a new low...

It's the end of the month, where are the normal, everyday guys between jobs or looking to get some extra money for rent? Certainly not at Spotlight, which has a cutie once in a long while (one today, but high as a kite), but is only a half step above what's on SMB *at best*.

They weren't even at Numbers last Thursday!! And I don't think they've all switched to online, at least not anywhere I've seen. Even Craig's List only has a handful, and that's usually the same guys again and again (though every once in a while you may get lucky...).

Have all the normal guys looking for some extra cash been driven out of Hollywood (it is pretty damn expensive...), if so then to where? Or did they all get addicted then were tossed in jail 'till the end of time? I just dunno.

It is not limited to just Hollywood - Read the postings on this board or travel to other large cities in the United States, e.g. Chicago, New York, Atlanta et cetera. It is the same situation; practically no one available on the streets.

Hustling on the streets is not as it was years ago. Times have changed and laws are ridiculously enforced. Many large cities, including Los Angeles, have adopted statutes that allow the police to not only arrest the hustler and/or the "john", laws now allow for the confiscation the automobile of the "john". This obviously influences some of the reasons that hustling on the streets is no longer popular.

You could go to "Numbers" on Santa Monica Blvd where you can ocassionally find a good looking "escort". It depends on the day but usually the pickings are slim but it all depends on what you like.

Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver still have street hustling but there is ocassional police intererence because of drug use by the hustlers.

In Brazil, on the other hand, hustling is not illegal and is quite abundant. You might want to give Brazil a try.

I've been to Numbers quite a bit (though I've only ever hired a guy I'd met there once and it was a massive waste of money), the point is there's even much less activity there.

I'm not specifically looking for street hustling, hell, not usually even really looking for action, but am curious what happened to all these guys, even from a year ago (which I understand was nothing compared to 10 and 20 years ago).

I don't really think it's the expense of HW or any other big city either, as even the crappy areas of town (since SMB's on the upswing now) have died out. A long time ago I'd see something on San Fernando well N of Burbank, haven't in a long time. Nor much of anything on Van Nuys BLVD near victory, though once in a while... I had also seen a bunch in Venice at one time, nothing the last couple times. I don't get into LA itself much, but haven't seen anything of note there either.

I'm not even complaining, if these boys cleaned themselves up and got work, great for them. But I don't think that's the case. Prison seems most likely, don't we have more people incarcerated then any other country in the world?

Yeah, Brazil is a constant topic of conversation at the Hooville dinners (and Montréal, though in a bit less detail then Brazil), it sounds like a lot of fun. One day...

Latest report...

Had great fun with a (free) Craig's List hookup, couldn't resist cruising the BLVD after to see if anything had changed.

Saw the same couple black drag queens. Not a damn thing else. The cops seem to have swept Lexington too now, I think I saw one more drag queen, but also a parked police car monitoring the street.

If we do ever figure out where they went would any who are left be worth looking for?

CL's picked up a little with guys looking to make some rent, I still think there used to be more.
