There are always going to be lurkers. It's just the nature of the beast. I would add, however, that the apparent narrowing of actively-posting members might have something to do with the moderated/unmoderated policy in effect. Anyone can see at a glance that the vast majority of people who are posting are unmoderated. Perhaps those who have not attained that status feel marginalized and are thus disinclined to post, because it simply advertises their lack of status. I know that is, in part, my own feeling. Also, of course, "slow days" are inevitable in a forum such as this. I know I CAN post whenever I want to, but that doesn't mean I have something to say or contribute at any given time. Just my thoughts.

As I post this message there are 1570 active members registered. I count a few dozen regular posters, where are all of these other guys? Why would one bother to register if they have no plan to participate? Does anyone know how many of the 1570 members are actually dormant?

Cheers! Ritchie

Many, about 1522, are on National Guard duty.

They are the men dressed in green outfits, with machine guns, walking about airports.

The balance is a coalition ensemble of Secret Internet Usage Enforcement Team SIUET or (TEUIS in Portugues). The group is comprized of the Personal Director of your firm, surviving Taliban, Traveller's proctologist, Walmart board members, and lead performers of Christmastime in Branson Missouri. They watch where we all spend time on the web.

I know this to be true.

Our goal is to have most people unmoderated. HooBoy recently ran a scan for posters within the last month, picked a number out of the air, and anyone with that number of posts or more with a clean record was unmoderated. I'm sorta surprised you didn't fall into that group, but I honestly have no idea what number he picked out of the air. (He told us he did it, but didn't tell us the number, on purpose.)

If moderated status is bugging you, feel free to write to HooBoy directly. He's very reasonable about these things.

Deej, you're a diplomat and I certainly appreciate the gesture. But I'm not persuaded.

The originator of this thread, who by the way seems like a very nice guy, is unmoderated, yet he arrived here less than a month ago and has fewer posts than I do. Some other standard than the one you describe is being applied.

It's Hooboy's site and his to operate as he likes. My original comment was simply addressing the question of why the ratio of posters to people registered might not be higher.

How funny. While I was squeaking somebody was greasing--the little unmod icon is now appearing beside my name. Thanks for that. Or is the board malfunctioning? ;)

I'm with you bluenix,:-)

This arbitrary number will never be met with the malfunctioning post counter. The first time I was stuck at 2 posts for over a month now it's stuck at 20.

Take care, Les

Well posting here now is not going to endear me to anyone, but then I got over wanting to be liked here a long time ago. In my "real" life I'm a pretty decent guy, flawed but caring and likeable. I posted under a different name at one time and enjoyed a pretty good relationship with most of the regulars.

However, truth be told, I, over the course of spending time here, came to dislike HooBoy. His pomposity is so obnoxious it renders most of his observations, as far as I'm concerned, ready for the garbage heap before I even hear them. Also, people here whom I once respected became such kiss asses to remain in his favor that it was unbearable. So I left, and months later came back with this persona.

I don't post much anymore and barely read most of the posts here. I haven't contributed anything of note for a long time, and I'm not deluded enough to think this post is an exception. But what I have learned is that the moderated forums supposedly came about to stop posting of personal information regarding escorts and I suppose other individuals who come here. Perhaps that was the case in the beginning, but certainly very few people did and/or do that. Those that remain moderated do so because they've expressed in some way a dislike for HooBoy or disgust with the way he runs this place. They must be watched.

But, in reality, who really cares? Not me. When I do come here it is to read the reviews, see who's travelling to my area, and catch up on any really heavy gossip about who's screwing who, literally and figuratively. As far as exchange of ideas, that's not really wanted here. They pretend they do, but that's not the same thing as encouraging honesty.

In other related matters, some of us who don't post often are busy.

I have a full-time day job, and offer bodywork part-time around that. I also have to fit in all those 'real life' matters, like meals, laundry, housework, etc. When my business picks up at certain times, that leaves me little time to schmooze here online.

I'm around, however, if only to read what's happening.

BTW, Gotta Run! ;-)

That's not at all true. I doubt you'll believe me, but that's not at all the case. Each of us moderators sees whose posts end up in the queue. When a person has been posting regularly and has not been a problem, one of us typically posts in the moderators' forum a suggestion that so-and-so be upgraded; the other moderators chime in on the subject, and typically the person is upgraded very soon. There are many people here who post negative comments about HooBoy or one of us moderators who are unmoderated. Even us moderators have called Hoo to task a couple of times for certain actions, and there were no repurcussions.

Like I said, I doubt you'll believe me, but it's the truth.

Like DJ, I'm also pretty busy most of the time. I'm choosing to "lurk" and post very occasionally (I infrequently believe that I have anything to add to many of the discussions). My life has also significantly diverged from many of the posters here, but I'm choosing not to give up the forum right now. The posts that are applicable to me often provide a perspective on issues I haven't considered, and don't necessarily have anyone to discuss them with.

I will, however, take every opportunity to "plug" (so to speak - and I mean verbally) a certain Vancouver escort.

Matt rocks!!

To the contrary, I believe you believe it.

You know, it never fails to amaze me the way people will pound their chests and say "THAT'S NOT THE WAY THIS SITE IS RUN" while giving forth the Tarzan yell, and they can't possibly know what they're talking about. They're not involved in it.

It's sort of odd this posting coming through right now, because I was thinking just the other day that there are a lot of new posters lately. And I'm not just going by the post counter, I'm also looking at the member since numbers. But, hey, it wouldn't be the first time I've been way off on my observations.

I too am guilty of the crime of "lurking", big deal. I have only a handfull of posts but I have visited the site very regularly for a longtime and I never had a member name. This site has provided hours of entertainment and I appreciate the efforts of the moderators and Hooboy. (Oh no, now I will be labled a "kiss-ass")

I don't know what is going on lately but it is getting really tiring reading about the way some of you people really bitch. It is not constructive criticism, it is plain old bitching. And I for one, am tired of it.

You bitch because you think you are being censored, you bitch about reviews made by men who post a review about their first escort encounter, you bitch about if you are being moderated or not, you bitch because the counter is not working correctly (like that is national f..ing emergency),now you are bitching because people just read and don't write. Well have you ever thought that they are afraid to write becasue you will probably bitch about what they wrote about anyway??

Some of you should mellow out. These guys spend alot of time making this a quality site. If you think you can do it better, than I suggest you go right ahead. Put a message on the board when your site is ready and we can can critique your work.

BULLSHIT! by your own admission there is no reason why i should be moderated. i have brought the matter to his attention. he remains a pathetic whiney-assed dolt about these things.

DCeBoy:

I was the first to welcome you back, on the thread that got deleted. I was happy to see you come back, because I think you have a great deal to offer here -- when you choose to. You're bright, educated, opinionated, interesting and you come at the board from an escort's point of view.

However, since the initial thread, I don't recall having seen any posts from you that weren't much like the one above. You've complained incessantly and loudly and every single post has been just about yourself.

We all well understand by now that you don't like Hooboy and you don't think your thread should have been deleted and you shouldn't be moderated. All that's well and good; you are certainly entitled to your own opinions, and to voice them.

But I don't get it. There's a very likeable side to you, but you've been doing a real good job of hiding it. About 99.999 percent of the people reading what you write aren't HB. Why not give us a break, drop the anti-HB, anti-moderator invective for a while and really join in on some of the conversations and discussions?

You and I have agreed on things in the past and we've disagreed on other things. Throughout it all, I have continued to respect you. I know you are quite capable of making interesting contributions here, because we've seen that any number of times in the past. I just wish you'd let us see a little of it now.

Regards,

BG
