hey guys

I've decided take a weekend off at the end of November/beginning of December. Everyone says there is great value to be had for money right now. Should I be patriotic and go to NYC - or should I be hedonistic and go to South Beach? I would really appreciate any recommendations on hotels ... and, I would never turn down advice on the appropriate entertainment. I really could use the advice on this lazy Sunday afternoon. Many thanks!

There's a great thread on South Beach in The Deli area.

However, I personally would do NYC. I've always had an enjoyable time there. In addition, I like the idea of supporting an area that's been hit very hard.

However, I would feel somewhat ackward sight-seeing at Ground Zero and probably wouldn't head over there specifically to see the carnage. But there are plenty of other places and things to do in NYC. I'd go in a minute.

I vote for NYC as well. You can probably get a good rate at even the best hotels, like the SoHo Grand.(Bargaining is allowed at the moment)SoHo and TriBeca are really cool places, if you have never stayed there. They are both close to the clubs and a short subway ride to Broadway and Lincoln Center.

As far as visiting ground zero is concerned, you really can't get too

close. But, you can certainly get an idea of what it must be like to live and/or work there day in and day out. An alternative is Europe.

US Airways has been offering fares in the $225-$250 range from the East Coast. Whatever you do, have a great time!

Europe is NOT a weekend trip by anyone standards that I know, I think you missed that in his post. I would ask have you been to South Beach or NYC before? If so you already have a good idea where to go. I have been to NYC but for only 1 day so not sure that counts. Never been to South Beach but the weather should be great this time of year.;-)

I am finishing a long weekend in NYC at the moment. The hotels are cheap even if the guys aren't. And the weather is great, of course subject to change at a moments notice. Seriously, you can get hotel deals that were unheard of last year. I've gone up this weekend for the last 4 years. Last year I had trouble finding a first class hotel for less than $500, this year you can get a room at those same hotels in $100 range. No matter what your taste from vanilla to the kinkiest, there is no where that has as great a selection of available hotties, if you can't five guys here that get your juices flowing, you're hopeless.

I live in Florida, c'mon down the weathers great. But I would recommend NYC right now. Just got back from there this weekend and had a better time than I could have possibly imagined.

And I thought New Yorkers were supposed to be rude:-) In fact everyone was polite, most were warm and friendly.

And you can visit some of the best escorts in the world. Including that supernova of the escort universe. Rick Munroe.

If doing civic good inspires, most New Yorkers seemed grateful for visitors business after 9/11, so you can do your part in standing up to the bad guys.

I live in Philadelphia, so right now Europe is a weekend possibility if you leave on Friday night and return on Tuesday. US Airways has a daily flights from Philadelphia to London or Brussels for $225 RT, with just a Saturday night stay over required -- you can fly any day of the week. But, you are right, Europe would not normally be a weekend destination.
