This is the one topic I have not seen mentioned here - FOOD! (okay, I am going a little overboard with the caps.)

What does everybody like to snack on (other than the obvious so lets keep our minds out of the gutter)? I have 3 comfort foods. They are

1)Port Wine Cheese spread on french bread

2)Rice Krispy Treats

3)Any kind of rich multi flavored ice cream (like Friendly's old fashioned Ic Cream Parlor sundae type of ice cream.)

(Also licking off whipped cream or flavored lube off of somebody does not count.)

My top two comfort foods are meatloaf or a nice pot of homemade soup.

Licking whipped cream or flavored lube certainly does count - just ask the wearer! ;)

That aside:

1) the combo of a nice tart apple (grannie smith is great) with a nice dry white wine (pinot grigio works fine),

2) Kraft's mac & cheese, and

3) a big bowl of cinnamon toast crunch cereal (it also makes one's cum taste great, too). :9

But, of course, these would not be consumed at the same time.

My four favorite snacks would be

1. Hot green chili pepper jelly and cream cheese on Triscuits

2. Fried catfish nuggets

3. Homemade banana nut ice cream (Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey will do in a pinch).

4. Peach or cherry cobbler (served hot) with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

A lot of things are comfort foods, at different times of the year.

Just because it's something I was raised on: fried chicken. (With homemade noodles, of course.)

Anything with potatos. Baked, boiled, mashed, au gratin, scalloped, you name it.

I feel like it's spring every year the first time I make corned beef & cabbage (with steamed potatos and carrots, of course).

Like WetDream, a good soup will get me every time. I grew up in midwest farm country. The highlight of each year was when we had fresh from the field vegetables for a hearty vegetable soup. I attempt to re-create this every summer with stuff from the local farmers market but it's never quite the same.

And my favorite comfort food: my mother's mac&cheese.

OOPS! Just realized you said *snacks*.

I've never been much of a snack eater, and I don't go for sweets much.

To this day, there's almost always a bag of salted cashews or shelled pecans on my desk.

I do generally have some celery in the fridge, and either cream cheese or peanut butter. There's something about the crunch of the fresh celery and the creamy goodness of whatever's spread on it. And there's almost always crackers and some sort of cheese in the house.

My mama always said I was a weird kid. I always liked the stuff kids aren't supposed to like (brussels sprouts, broccoli, spinach) and was sorta indifferent to stuff like ice cream, cake, etc.

People actually make fun of me at parties. I'll walk right past the dessert trays and go for the veggie & dip or fruit tray.

Posted

1) I'm a junk food junkie and a chocoholic. Need I say more?

(I have to exert a great deal of self control or my weight and cholesterol would go through the stratosphere. Did someone say dessert? ;-))

2) A Granny Smith apple.

3) Fresh fennel -- sliced paper thin and served with extra virgin olive oil and freshly ground white pepper.

4) Soup. Any kind.

5) Stew.

Snacks or comfort food your post isn't clear as the two usually are not the same. Going with the comfort food for me it is little animals, I like them breaded and deep fried. As for the snacks I munch on posters to this forum:*

I am too fun but usually we indulge in comfort food when we are not able to lick the whipped cream and flavored lube off of someone.

What a great idea-

Mine-cinamon toast crunch cereal mixed with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup(i gotta sweet tooth ---ok :-) )or my guilty secrets Peanut Butter Twix and Nestle Crunch Bars ,on the savory side a good meatloaf made with chopped steak smothered in onion gravy and a heping of mashed potato on the side..

Not in any order:

-- Chocolate

-- Cheese

-- Ben and Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch (with a little Kahlua poured over it it's like dying and going to heaven. . .)

-- Mexican food (especially tamales, tacos, chilaquiles, mole poblano and ropa vieja)

-- Jewish food (matzo ball soup, latkes or blintzes with sour cream, Mom's brisket)

-- Flan

So many of our comfort foods remind us of our parents. I notice that no-one has said anything about food typically served by a lover (present or ex). Well, I won't be an exception to that, either.

I, too, love brussels sprouts. And good pot roast should include turnips as well as potatoes.

Meat loaf, too, especially the kind with a nice thick crust to it. And, oddly enough, liver and onions, but only at a cafeteria.

Other people have mentioned cinnamon toast crunch cereal, perhaps I go to the primitive side on that one - origional flavor graham crackers crumbled up in a bowl with milk poured over them!! (That's the one I go for in real emergencies.) Although, I really get a bit wierd if I go without any kind of cereal at breakfast for more than about five days.

And peanut anything!! PBJ sandwiches, Asian food with peanuts in the sauce, or even peanut sauce, pb cups candy, etc!

my BF is Puerto Rican and even though i aint a fan of the cuisine there are two things he makes(hes a fantastic cook as well as great in bed :9 ),there is a roasted shoulder of pork with garlic and herbs and a pound cake with dark rum and cherries and whipped cream (i know there is a ban on it perhaps thats why nobody had said anything regarding their partners !)anyway they are both AWESOME .

Hmm, other then sex...FOOD is my fave topic!

I am an awesome cook, and love making my pancakes as comfort food!

I put together various items to make perhaps the finest you'll find...strawberries, apple, banana pancakes with applesauce in them, a touch of vanilla, and 1/2 milk and 1/2 7up for extra fluffiness. Garnish with some mint leaves and orange wedges, and top with a strawberry sauce or syrup...and you're set!

other comfort foods:

Tofuti Wild berry Cuties

Peanut butter right out of the jar

Muslix with Bananas

Bagel/Lox/and Cream Cheese

Hostess Cherry Fruit Pie

Fresh Fruit (peaches, plums, watermelon)

Looks like meatloaf is a favorite of many. Me too, no one made it like Mom. It could convert non-believers! But as good as it was at dinner with mashed potatoes and lima beans, nothing was better than a meatloaf sandwich in your lunch bag the next day. Pot roast comes in #2 and then close behind is:

leftover, cold pizza for breakfast

scrambled eggs, bacon fried crisp and toast with Welch's grape jelly

bean soup with nice chunks of smokey ham

bread warm from the oven (Mom's again) with chunky peanut butter

chocolate chip mint ice cream, the kind with green dye, left on the counter to soften.

meatloaf and mashed potatoes;

mac & cheese

fried chicken

for snacks:

for major celebrations or depressions: champagne & imported pate de foie gras!

unless, of course, I'm lucky enough to find comfort in some great guy!

Comfort foods (I don't snack much) for when I'm hungry, angry, lonely, and tired:

1. Salty grits with butter, accompanied by scrambled eggs and whole-wheat toast with homemade jam.

2. Hot cornbread, made in a skillet with bacon drippings but no sugar, and turnip greens cooked for hours with a good piece of side meat

3. Any kind of soup

4. Yellow cake with chocolate icing

5. Baked pork chops with mashed potatoes (Does "potato" take "-s" or "-es" in the plural? I feel like a self-conscious Dan Quayle).

Obviously, I was bred, born, and reared in the Deep South. For us, "comfort" means carbohydrates flavored with sodium and smothered in cholesterol.
