Well they sure beat that headless hirsūtus nightmare that left my cable modem line clogged. Every time I visit that other thread the smell of wet ape wafts from my screen.

 

Obviously, the photos are good (I checked the rentboy link and viewed them all). The only criticism I have: we've seen this style of studio art direction before. Frankly, the more I see it, the less sexy it becomes.

 

This is not to say these photos aren't sexy and certainly many men will lick their LCDs to have a fantasy taste of you. I can't blame them for wanting the delicious flavor you offer.

 

Back to the pics and, mind you, I am nit-picking (what else is new). Apart from the seen-it-before art direction, I find designer underwear distracting. The name Calvin Klein is SO old and so 80's and everyone knows he sold out from the company years ago and the licensee is cheap-cheap-cheap, its cache is dead. Sure, some porn directors still think it's sexy and stylish to have their porn pets wear that tired name but they, too, are stuck in the 80's and they're stupid.

 

Designer underwear utilized in photos, especially high-end names like D&G and GA, always steal the attention. When the photo should be about the person, the hot body, sexy art direction, and that gorgeous ass and cock, we're slapped in the face with someone else's name and the new company logo design. Also, colored underwear, especially the darker tones, will hide the shape and size of the cock. Dark colors=no sex appeal.

 

Personally, Steven, I'd prefer to see you a bit more natural: natural light, white cotton boxers, white cotton bed sheets, even a dirty old pair of white Hanes with a few rips and tears. And with your four-star sexy physique, I'll bet you could get some great, sensuous black and white photos that would rock any man's cock.

I'm no proponent of copyright infringement (I wonder, was that graphic ever registered?) but let's be clear, this ain't no serious piece of artwork. In fact, I would argue the ugly graphic is worthless, not adding one penny's worth of value to the product on sale. Still, this does not justify stealing. Frankly, I think it's stupid to have a design-element in your business identity that specifically refers to someone else's business identity, especially a like-minded business. I would have dumped the graphic ages ago.

 

Curiously, Talvin DeMachio said he designed "his website." He never said he specifically created the graphic from nothing. For all we know, if Talvin did create the graphic, he may have stolen bits and pieces of the graphic from someplace else, without permission, creating his own stolen copyright issue. Without absolute proof that Talvin DeMachio is the creator of the graphic (registration # from the U.S. Copyright Office would be helpful), we may never know who created the graphic. But we do know Steven Draker did not create it and he did say he would remove it.

 

I hope Steven Draker does remove it because I think the graphic is ugly (reminds me of a heart attack) and Steven Draker deserves a more elegant home page. Frankly, his name, with just the right font design, would work nicely for me. Remember, less is more. (Something very few gay men know how to project. See: Munroe.)

 

I don't think the graphic does much for that hot boy, Talvin, either. But I'll resist hijacking this thread. :-)

I agree... Actually with the admittedly hideous and unsightly graphic removed the unadorned picture of Steven superimposed on the plain background would work for me... Yes! Most often less is indeed more!

Well I don't really care either.

 

However, the discussion took a turn which highlighted a possible negative connotation for the graphic... So from a marketing point of view it might be constructive to remove the graphic... It might be a subtle point to make, but a valid one nevertheless.

 

Anyone who has studied marketing and advertising will tell you that sometimes the silliest or slightest miscalculation in an ad campaign can make it or break it. That is why extensive studies are done to get people's reactions to product packaging and advertizing, etc. prior to final release. In the case of Steven's graphic I always associated it with something negative... not a good thing… but I was not exactly sure exactly what or why. However, when Rockhard mentioned the dreaded "heart attack" correlation suddenly it became clear to me that there was indeed an underlying signal that the graphic was telegraphing which was not exactly positive. As I said, it is a minor point in the overall scheme of things, but a valid argument nonetheless.

In all fairness and out of respect for Talvin and the creator of the graphic, the latter will be removed from my website as soon as I find a new tech guy who can replace it.

Makes me wonder, do the escorts who seem to enjoy blowing smoke about this stupid graphic have their own website? Do they know what these things cost? Do they have any clue what it takes to make changes? I can't help but wonder if jealousy is playing a role in this childish game. I'd have more respect for the critics if their level of advertising rose to the level of Draker's. In this case, Viagra can't help.

 

The graphic in question is used to name the title of each page. That means the graphic for each page has to change. Luckily, it's not acting as a link, which would require more work. I also noticed the graphic is a jpeg file. Steven, it would be more efficient for users if it were a gif file. More to come...
