We see "straight-acting" in escort profiles all the time and we all, sort of, know what that means. But today I saw "straight-looking." What exactly is that? What does "straight-looking" look like?

Does that mean you don't look like Rip Taylor? Who do you look like if you're "straight-looking?" Al Gore?

Thoughts?

"Straight-looking" in 2008 means excessively styled hair, womanly shaped eyebrows, body hair removed, diamond earrings and strands of gold, color-coordinated outfits (baseball cap matches the T-shirt which matches the sneakers), etc. Straight men in 2008 have definitely discovered their inner queen and they are reveling in it.

And, it's only going to get worse: http://www.newser.com/article/D91K45GG0.html

STRAIGHT LOOKING is a RIGID lack of IMAGINATION and a FEAR of not being MASCULINE to the point that you seek constant

self-affirmation. PLUS the term echoes a certain level of SELF-HATE. IS NOT the OPPOSITE "CROOKED LOOKING?!?!?" I appreciate a guy with some INTERESTING TWISTS incorporated into his being. You might want to check out this string:

Do you KNOW any FLAMING HUNKS?!?!?

I don't find the term "straight-looking" to be strange or off-putting at all. Many (most?) people, male and female, young and old, straight and gay, have a "look," natural or contrived, which is reflected by their attire and their hair in particular and often in their facial expression. As an example, I give you Rachel Maddow who, by her dress and her hairstyle, is "butch-looking" (in the Lesbian sense). For many, I would assume that "straight-looking" has as much to do with the absence of gay identifiers such as a limp wrist, lipstick and rouge, 3 inch earrings and a Prada hip length shoulder bag.

But apart from sexual identity there are all sorts of "looks," prosperous, disorganized/disheveled, arrogant, religious, etc. etc. etc. It's part of the human condition. }(

Calling her look "butch" makes sense; saying she looks "gay" would be wrong.

You didn't see my post above or maybe you haven't been getting out too much. :p Straight guys today love getting all dolled up, wearing big Paris Hilton-esque sunglasses, flashy jewelry, getting their hair colored and styled, dousing themselves with perfume, displaying designer names across their chests or butts... (And limp wrists are also part of the look, too; hip-hop is a big influence and those rappers love to use fey mannerisms.) Times have changed, and gay men are the ones who are usually more masculine today in appearance than straight men. It's just a fact.

This is the funniest generalization I have seen in a while and repeating it over and over again won't make it true.

It just means that you and I don't know the same "straight" people.

I did read your post and I DO get out a lot. I don't want to start a back and forth here, but my impression is, you get out a lot - so long as "getting out" means being confined to the Greater NYC area. I, on the other hand, travel the country and I frankly see rare signs of what you describe. And FWIW, when I travel I make a point of looking for "trendy" Metrosexual venues.

Finally, don't you know that all trends which sweep America start in California and move east? ;-)

I can say that because I'm confined by neither coast. }( }(

Actually, Derek and I spend as much time traveling as we do in NYC. We've seen these overly styled straight guys in Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Phoenix, Philadelphia and every other place we visit, including this afternoon at Clearwater beach in Florida. It's a phenomenon that I don't particularly appreciate visually, but at the same time, I think it's great that these guys can feel free to explore their feminine side without disparagement. More power to them. And their girlfriends seem to like it, too.

Are we to look forward to Miss Smart-Ass Manners?" }( I can't wait. You could support Derek well into his 60's with that career. }( }(

Steven, I am so glad you rescued me. I was distraught when I couldn't find Sam's men's cologne. :p

The Rectory might be more comfortable, especially after everyone is gone from the Church Complex. I can safely say that there is at least one Priest who has had his ass plugged by a Male Escort.

Anyone else here care to disclose a similar situation?

I think you're totally wrong here. I don't know a single gay man who is "limp-wristed." But I know plenty of straight men who when they talk a purse flies out of their mouth.

Does that mean they are "straight-looking?"

Stereotyping. That's all this is.
