So what do you guys think about the new rentboy?

so far I'm not so sure that I like it. I recieved a couple of E-mails and the format is not that great. The site just looks unorganized. I hope I get used to it and that I learn to like it.

There's already a thread on this in the other forum, which seems the better place for it - this forum is for discussing particular escorts. So I posted there. But I'll just repeat that I miss the ability to do a search just for guys who are currently online. If there's still a way to do it, it is not obvious to me.

From the main page, click on 'advanced search'. Under 'options' click the box next to 'Show only online ads'. (I preferred the old phrase 'available now'.)

 

You won't find any escort online right now, however, as no one is currently able to log onto his account due to migration issues.

So I followed your directions, with an interesting result. In Manhattan, I was looking for top guys online now. Thinking I would come up with zero results, in light of your statement that nobody could sign on yet, I actually got 13 hits, but only 4 or 5 showed green lights. The others showed red lights. This is odd - since the search should have just turned up guys with green lights to indicate online now. They obviously have some bugs in the system.

My experience with the "Advanced Search" is that it doesn't work. I selected my criteria in the "Characteristics" section and it returned a bunch of listings that had a few or none of my criteria at all. Don't even try mixing criteria of Characteristics & Preferences together. Too bad, if the "Advanced Search" works, rentboy.com will be much better than men4rentnow.com. Since it doesn't work, the new site is worse than the near useless old site. Oh yeah, and it looks like they're implementing bandwidth throttling so large image files quit halfway now. It's no longer possible to view those high resolution photos any more :-( Try this link and you'll see. http://images.rentboy.com/EZRENT5/98QH875YP2QZZ There is a workaround but I can't post it here. If rentboy folks know about the workaround and block it, I won't be able to see the large files any more and then rentboy.com is really useless. Where do you go to see high resolution photos? I just checked our ad and you can't click on the photos to see them larger, and I don't think you ever could. What am I missing?

They seem to fixing things, slowly. The pics load reliably, whereas right after the upgrade they were even worse than version 4.0. The old home page (the one after the adult screener) now works, sortof, (it operates as the "adult screener"). The "advanced search" still doesn't work properly. I'm going to SF soon and typed in "Josh", "Weston" and "Josh Weston", because I'm interested and I know he's based there. No luck, at all in getting his ad. I happened to know he was in NYC, so I did a search for "Manhattan" and ages near his and he popped up as one of many. If someone as obvious as Josh Weston isn't captured (I got a bunch of other Joshs, though) by simple searches, I wonder what's going on here...

 

Given that this is usually the most up to date and complete site and that it costs more than others for the advertisers, this seems pretty lame.

I feel sorry for the escorts who use Rentboy for their advertising. As a client who loves to use rentboy mainly because I can actually write an email fully about what I am interested. The thing is usually you introduce a new website when you have new things to add or switch to a bigger server or the platform is upgraded.

 

Sorry but I see no improvements, the server is as slow as before and if they switched platforms no big news to us clients. As I have said before the ads show better but that is all.

 

Again would it be too much for someone from Rentboy to put our a short white paper discussing what is new and expectations for the future of the site. If there are new enhancements why not disclose them. I am sure escorts can expect a fee increase out of this.

AGREED! I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment! I can access it, but after I click on the USA, I can't get any state. Does one have to register now? I don't, don't don't like it at all. :-( :-( :-(

Slowly is the right word for that site. LOL

 

It just took the better part of 2 minutes to load the top page.

 

(Today's coverboy is YUMMY-ON-A-STICK!)

Hmmmm.... They have NV, Las Vegas listed before NC, Charlotte. And NC, Raleigh after NY, Manhattan. NV->NC->NY->NC doesn't match my version of the alphabet. It's ironic because alphabetizing a list is one of the things that's EASY to do on a computer. LOL

 

IN THEIR FAVOR, someone who claims to be a representative has participated in one of the recent threads about the new Rentboy and I've seen positive changes show up as a result of those discussions.

 

While they iron out the kinks (as it were), just sit back and chuckle. I've been through many a rollout like this. It always looks the absolute worst a few hours before it all comes together.

When I just checked, NY was listed before (each instance of) NC. While maybe not intuitive, it is internally consistent. Ignore the state abbreviations and it's alphabetical: Nevada, New York, North Carolina. That's the same reason MD, Baltimore is listed before MA, Boston.

I don't think that's a problem with the search functionality. I went to the advanced search and entered Josh Weston in the 'text search' field and his ad popped right up. Searching for the screen name Josh Weston returned no results because he entered his screen name as "--- Josh Weston ---". If you can't find the guy you're searching for, try the text search instead. I'll bet you'll find he was non-standard in the entry of his screen name, and I don't expect the site to compensate for that (beyond providing the text search option).

I don't think that one has to register at all. It appears that you can search the ads and email the guys just like always without registering.

 

Now, on top of that, one has the option of registering which enables him to create a hot list, make notes about the ads, and block escorts. Of course for the system to retrieve that user-specific data, it would need to know who the user is.
