After having the "favourite cds" and "favourite band"threads it seems natural to me to do the other side of the coin and ask what bands, artists or type of music make you vomit, what type of music when it comes on the radio makes you leap for another station or if you see it on MTV.VH1 etc makes you want to put your foot thru the screen...

Mine is CLASSICAL MUSIC(YUUUUKKKK!),I'm sorry but it is something i cannot stand under ANY circumstances i think it goes back to my childhood and my father who would not allow any music EXCEPT classical to be played in the house, for my 7th birthday i got my first LP "Arrival"by ABBA but i could not play it while he was in the house which used to f**k me off big time, which made me seriously hate classical music.

Other modern artists which make me scream include

1.Dido

2.Macy Gray

3.Alanis Morrisette

4.Nelly Furtado

5.Linkin Park

to name but 5,what or who annoys you..

3. Whitney Houston. What a beautiful voice with no passion.

4. Foreigner.

5. Erasure/Andy Bell. What an awful voice.

Just about all rap music sends me over the edge. I live in a neighborhood where the cars go by at all hours of the day and night, with rap blaring. I don't really consider it music, though, just noise. I definitely prefer the noise of jets flying overhead to the sound of rap. It all sounds the same, and to me, it all sounds bad.

I love a wide variety of music with the exception of cRAP, which I detest.

RE: Addendum

Why didn't I think of Lypsinka the first time around. (Actually, I think she is sensational! All you guys in SF should get tickets to her current show.)

Count me out when it comes to rap. I can't say I hate it because I don't care enough about it to say that. But I'll hit the mute button whenever I hear it.

To me, the only good that's ever come out of rap music is Marky Mark's Calvin Klein contract. ;-)

As far as blaring car stereos go, I used to do that too. Only it was usually something like "Ride of the Valkyries". People tend to get out of your way when they hear that coming at them full volume. :-) I used to have a cassette I made just for commuting. It was filled with high-energy classical "big blows". Every time a friend heard it, they'd ask for a copy.

I really can't stand "I Will Survive" because decades ago a person who had tried to become my boyfriend and failed made me sit down and listen to all of it. Ugh! And the only reason I will agree with you guys about rap is gangster rap. Any musical form which advocates violence I actively avoid.

But for the most part, distaste for music is dictated for me by circumstances. I like most anything. What I don't like I can find campy or interesting for a few minutes. But when you are sitting there in a crowded tile dining room with all the other diners trying to talk anyway and a mariachi group starts up so loud that nobody can hear himself think let alone talk to each other, well, hate is still a bit too strong a word for it.

Night of the Iguana quote goes here< > (something like Nothing human is completely divorced from me.)

>4. Foreigner

Yes, Foreigner. They epitomize all that is vapid; all that is bereft of heart, soul, passion, creative spark, intelligence, and balls. A blight on the Arts. For all the originality that they've contributed to contemporary popular music, they may as well have never existed. Ugh.

While I won't say I hate it, most music I hear anywhere to the right of around 91.9 on the FM dial is almost completely disposable. That is, stations playing "new" music are really playing uninspired pap. Most upsetting is the way it sells. The fortunes being made, and the talentless pretty people with nice voices transcending humanity and ascending into pop iconhood, is disturbing and says alot about the culture being 'entertained'.

1. Drum machines.

2. Everything/anything else generated by a computer or machine that someone tries to pass off as "music". Example Techno-Pop.

Real music is human -- the interpretation, the skill, the emotion.

I'm surprised at some of the answers so far. I personally don't care for elevator music, classical and rap. Even songs that I liked when I first heard them but then they are played to DEATH and after hearing the same song a thousand times I then hate it. Breathe by Faith Hill comes to mind (I swear I have heard that song on ever radio station!)

I like Ricky Martin's music (and his bon bons), but that's been played so many times I'm sick of it. :-(

RE: Music-what do you DISLIKE!

Aside from rap, which I don't consider music, I hate all female "yodel" music, especially the "harmonizing" kind like Destiny's Child. I blame Whitney Houston for this trend - and I USED to like her before "I Will Always Love You" was yodeled for the 10 billionth time on my radio.

Well, since no one else has mentioned him --

Barry Manilow

And how about Roger Whitaker?

Celine Dion. Yuk.

Rap has been much maligned, but Country and Western music (except during the Calgary Stampede) is just gruesome.

Bee Gees. (The Brothers Gobb).

Wayne Newton.

Paul Anka.

Neil Sedaka.

Dan Hill.

Donny Osmond.

His sister.

ELO (Electric Light Orchestra).

Oh, I could go on.....

This is hysterical, and I couldn't agree more.
