I don't get a chance to watch much porn but when I do, it's only the hardcore straight stuff that gets me off. I agree...part of it is that the mainstream gay porn industry has taken the responsibility to portray safe sex in their films , while in the straight ones, you rarely see the use of condoms and loads always go into a hole (or, after the dick shoots, it goes back into a hole). I'm not condoning unsafe sex in gay films...I'm just saying that the fact that the straight ones do it is what makes them so exciting. Aside from that, what the gay ones are lacking is the kind of sex that gay men often have...aggressive, animalistic, passionate. Agreed. This is a constant topic of conversation on ATKOL.

 

Part of the problem in gay porn is "cookie cutter casting". They put two (or more) guys together because they look good, not because either is a spectacular performer or great actor (!), or because they want to work together. In fact, they often don't know who they're working with until they arrive on the set.

 

Occasionally you'll see a scene that is accidentally hot as hell. I'm quite convinced it's an accident and the chemistry was right between the guys that day. Just reviewed JOCKS' "Ready for More" and the first scene is that way. The two guys are clearly into it and it scorches.

 

Sadly, the rest of the movie is standard Chi Chi formularized same-old same-old. When I sat down to write the review, I had to re-run the tape to note who was in each scene. That's how memorable most of it was, and it's how about 95% of gay porn strikes me.

I think it is the "same old, same old" "cookie cutter" sex that has made most gay porn boring beyond belief. I don't want a plot in a sex film. I would rather hear the guys talking, breathing, moaning, slapping, etc than hear boring, tremendously repetitive music. I would rather get a sense of the evolution of a real sexual encounter between two guys who want to have sex with one another than a high edited and "directed" sex scene where it seems like the focus is on lighting and camera angles more than capturing actual passion. I think it's an "accident" when there is actually a good scene shot under these circumstances; I don't think that many guys get turned on with some guy saying "move your arm this way, tip your head back, lift up your leg more, etc, etc." Mind you, I'm not asking for horribly shot porn (I have seen some of that), but I think it is possible to shoot good video while being less intrusive.
