The good news:

Finished the six episode season one of Ludwig and LOVED it.  It has a very Only Murders in the Building vibe in terms of the atmosphere and music.

The bad news:

Season two is not available to watch until next month.

Painfully shy, reclusive, always uncomfortable crossword puzzle author John Taylor gets a call from his sister-in-law, Lucy, asking him if he can come over right now. After he says no, she says I knew you would say that so I sent for a cab; it's in front of your house right now

You what? 

Well, it's the only way I knew I could get you to make the 140 mile trip 

Can you at least tell me why? 

I think it's better if I wait until you get here...

When he gets there, she tells him that his identical twin brother James (yes, James Taylor), a detective chief inspector with the police has been acting strangely for weeks and three nights ago he didn't come home from work, and she hasn't heard from him since.  She's been trying to figure out what happened, but she needs his journal. She searched his office at the house, but it's not there so it must be in his office at the police station.

Unfortunately, I can't access it. Only James can. Or somebody who looks remarkably like him…

NO! NO! NO!

So the next day...

After Lucy briefs him about the layout and personnel, he's just about to step into his brother's office (it's actually a cubicle) when the brother's partner tells him they need to get going to the scene of a murder. John has no choice but to go along.

He's the senior officer on the case, but something is clearly wrong with him. This is noticed by his partner, and Dr. Whitaker, the doctor from The Pitt, for some reason moonlighting in Cambridge as a constable, who handed him a stack of papers about the case when he walked in.

He, the partner, and Dr. Whitaker are in a conference room with the seven people who were in the building at the time of the murder and as the scene progresses it's clear that he is not all right. He's swaying back-and-forth and looking like he's gonna drop the stack of papers And when his partner asks if he's all right, he says I have to get some air and he rushes out to the car. He calls Lucy.

I can't do this, I don't know how James did this every day!

It was his job. He was used to all of it.

That's not what I mean. Leaving the house every day. Traffic. People. Cell phones. Computers. I can't do this!

He'd been flipping through the papers as he was venting. Lucy starts to say something, and he interrupts her.

Hold on… I think I just solved a murder.

DC-DETECTIVE CONSTABLE

The lowest rank of detective. Although you are thrilled to finally be a detective, DC is a position you are angling to get promoted out of. Often designated to grunt duty such as door knocking or procuring phone records and such, but may work a crime scene.

DS-DETECTIVE SERGEANT

A work-a-day rank that is the most common of the fictional detective characters. Often sent to process the crime scene. Some detectives spend their career at this rank. Of course, others want to lead investigations, not just work them, so they are climbing up.

DI-DETECTIVE INSPECTOR

In the fictional world, at this rank you are definitely leading investigations. But you are also high enough up the ladder that the bosses know you and may lean on you to get a result they need in order to look good.

DCI-DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR

One of the higher ranks, you will often find them leading specialty units or brought in to fix a disaster. They often run an investigation from the office, answering to higher ups and being reported to by the DIs.

DSUPT OR DSU-DETECTIVE SUPERINTENDENT

The boss. Each local or regional CID (Criminal Investigation Department) has one. This is the detective that is often delivering a lecture to or covering for our main character.

DCS-DETECTIVE CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT

An administrator that is just below the chiefs. Usually 1 DCS per region.

CHIEF-CHIEF CONSTABLE

A rank that has deputies and assistants who are sometimes referred to as “chief” as well. The Chief Constable would be the go-between for elected officials, the media and the police force. They often have to do the press conferences, so you will see the chief come into the situation either when the crap hits the fan or when someone solves a tough case.

COMMISSIONER

An appointed position. The overall chief of the Metropolitan Police Force in London. You really don’t want to see them walk into the station.

GUV

It is used to show deference to either your boss, or a person you are currently serving. It is quite common in East London, among a certain type of people, almost always men, to other men.

David Suchet will go from hunter to hunted in Ludwig‘s newly announced Christmas special, with the famed Poirot actor set to play a murder suspect.

David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, who lead the cosy crime series for the BBCand BritBox, will return, alongside co-stars Jason Flemyng, Joe Wilkinson, Cathy Tyson, Alexandra Roach and Kiell Smith-Bynoe.

With series two of the Emmy-winning Ludwigcurrently airing to great success on BBC iPlayer and BBC One — and with series three now in production — the Christmas special comes as welcome news to fans of Mark Brotherhood’s show.

Set in Yorkshire, the hour-long Christmas episode sees John, Lucy and Henry arrive at a remote Christmas-themed hotel for what should have been a much-needed escape, when a sudden blackout turns the festivities into a locked-room murder mystery. Trapped by a blizzard and cut off from the outside world, the guests must spend the night with a killer in their midst. With John reluctantly pulled into one of his strangest puzzles yet, the race is on for the Taylors to solve the crime.

“It was an absolute pleasure to work alongside David Mitchell and the wonderful ensemble cast,” said Suchet about joining the special. “It made quite the refreshing change to be playing a suspect rather than the detective, and to sit comfortably in my armchair while David delivered the denouement. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time,” he added.
