la_connor Posted yesterday at 06:05 PM Posted yesterday at 06:05 PM What happened here? 2019: John Doe advertises as "abcdefg" (rentmen dot com / abcdefg). I save a link in my safari bookmarks. (Not as a "friend" on the website. An actual bookmark saved on my computer.) 2025: John Doe retires and deletes his ad. abcdefg is gone. I click my saved bookmark I get a page not found error: Ooops...404 The requested page can not be found. 2026: I click the old bookmark and it works. Same URL. But now "abcdefg" is a different guy. Did the name "abcdefg" get recycled?
maninsoma Posted yesterday at 07:02 PM Posted yesterday at 07:02 PM Did you meet the first abcdefg? If not, my first thought is that it could be a scammer who reactivated an old ad with new photos to scam some more. This is assuming that you don't literally mean the name was abcdefg. If the name is something that multiple people might think of (e.g., LatinoUC, HungJake, etc) then it's certainly possible that Rentmen allows a new advertiser to use a name that was previously used by someone else. I would think that their site software would prohibit it, but given the way that site is generally run it wouldn't surprise me if they would allow the same name to be used more than once.

Solution + JamesB Posted yesterday at 08:35 PM Solution Posted yesterday at 08:35 PM Short answer: yes. If a profile is deleted, the username becomes available and anyone can use it. la_connor 1
