I was looking to see if a Mother's Day Thread had been started. Thank you @D21howie

I just finished a family brunch at one of my nieces' house. There were 12 adults including my 91 year old mother who's in great shape  and 4 children - a 2 year old great nephew, a 6 year old great niece, an almost 7 year old great niece, and a 10 year old great niece. There was a family of 5 missing, but they like to do Mother's Day on their own.

I like my family, and I get along with them. But  I'm usually the odd man out at these family gatherings as I'm the only adult who's never had a "relationship", been married or had children. Plus as far as I know I'm the only gay person in the immediate family. But today I actually had a few conversations. So that was nice. I don't see my great nephew a lot. But they've been showing him family photos. Plus he's at the age where he parrots what you tell him to say fairly easily. So he said Uncle Gman when he was prompted. I really loved that.

All in all a delightful brunch (well the food wasn't particularly my favorite). But never mind all that. It was a great way to spend a few hours with my Mom and most of the immediate family.

My best wishes for all the women who are mothers in your lives. And for all those who have passed-we say in Judaism-"May their memories always be as a Blessing to those who loved them."

PS:  And I almost forgot. Here's an interesting Mother's Day Linguistic Tidbit for you

Not at all. When I with my mum Happy Mothers Day in May it would be one of the biggest insults I can ever do.

I, and I'm hoping I'm not alone, have no idea what the biggest insult for @Thomas_Belgium's mother would be. Please explain.

We celebrate Mother's Day August 15. Mother's Day in May is perceived as very commercial and materialistic.

You probably celebrate it  then because August 15th is the Feast Day of the Assumption of Mary. I prefer my May holiday as it's free from Catholic underpinnings.

If commercialism was the reason  behind a really nice family brunch  for all but 5 of my immediate family members ( and even with those 5 missing there were 16 people at my niece's house) and for  2 who live  around 3-1/2  hours away by car making the trip to attend, then I have to say I'm a big fan and believer in commercialism. Long may it reign!!
