TonyDown Posted March 10 Posted March 10 (edited) Is anyone watching DTF St. Louis? A 7-episode whodunit on HBO. I like Jason Bateman (Ozark) and David Harbour (Stranger Things) a lot. Remember Harbour in Brokeback Mountain? 😉 The music is cool, soundtrack on Spotify. Edited March 10 by TonyDown MikeBiDude 1
samhexum Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I have been watching a bunch of stuff on YouTube lately and have seen so many commercials for this that I am nauseated by the sight of either of them. jackcali 1
TonyDown Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 From HuffPost.... “DTF St. Louis” is one of the top shows on HBO Max right now. The dark dating-app drama follows a strange love triangle between three suburban adults — Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Linda Cardellini — grappling with midlife malaise. When one of them turns up dead, a murder investigation begins to unravel hidden secrets that reveal something far more sinister was going on among the trio. The show also stars Richard Jenkins, Joy Sunday, Arlan Ruf, Peter Sarsgaard and Chris Perfetti. The article has a YouTube video embedded but it spills too much IMO.
samhexum Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Sorry, but I continue to watch a lot on YouTube and want to hurl every time I see one of the approximately 753,839 ads they show for this every hour.
+ Gar1eth Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I just started it today. I'm on the second episode. i like it so far. While i still think he's pretty adorable, Jason Bateman is beginning to show his age a bit. I'm sure glad I've retained my youthful visage. samhexum 1

Considering much of the story is centered on weird, possibly kinky sex, Jason is reluctant to show us anything. I know they're using it for the character, but I can't believe how much weight David Harbour gained. Harbour is showing much more skin than Bateman. (Edit) I just found out Harbour is wearing a 30-pound prosthetic belly. Edited March 18 by d.anders

d.anders Posted March 24 Posted March 24 This mystery is growing on me. I like Richard Jenkins as a detective. Peter Sarsgaard plays older gay really well. Jason Bateman has a very strange body. Super-skinny arms. They show him shirtless and in bathing trunks, but he's oddly not sexy to look at almost naked. MikeBiDude 1
Rod Hagen Posted March 25 Posted March 25 I like the show and it epitomizes the problem of TV vs. Film. It's too slow moving and repetitive. It should have been a 90 minute movie like in the old days. MikeBiDude 1
TonyDown Posted Monday at 07:38 AM Author Posted Monday at 07:38 AM Some super poignant pieces. Interesting sexuality topics. Great cast. Spoiler --------------------------- Without Floyd, is there anything left to make another season? https://www.comingsoon.net/guides/news/2119171-dtf-st-louis-season-2-renewed-canceled MikeBiDude 1
d.anders Posted Wednesday at 04:22 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:22 AM (edited) I just finished it. Unlike anything I've ever seen before. Not sure I liked it after all. Perhaps something went over my head. Difficult to discuss without spoilers. I have a few questions. Seeing Jason Bateman in his underwear was a bit shocking. I admire his bravery. I liked the bonding, soul-searching aspect of the relationship, but I would have loved it more if they experimented. The experiment could have failed, but at least we would know they tried. Having a love connection does not mean it has to be sexual, or expressed sexually, but straight guys experimenting is always an interesting subject, IMO. (Can you tell I'm gay?) d.anders Posted Thursday at 11:58 AM Posted Thursday at 11:58 AM Some critics are saying it's the best thing to hit HBO in years. Can't say I agree with that. By watching analysis videos on YouTube, I just found out what really happened in the end. It was not very clear to me, and now that I know, I have to say the entire thing is very sad. Who needs sad right now? I hate to say it, but I don't think the story makes a lot of sense. I wish more gays would see it so we could talk about it here. It's the kind of drama that's worth talking about, since the subtext is man-on-man connection. There really is no way to talk about this story without giving away spoilers.

Very sad and also poignant. Made me think about the other thread about the sexuality podcast and my experience with straight friends. Such food for thought! A couple of the story arcs ultimately did not make much sense to me. But instead of being one of "those people" that nit-pick, I'll just say I'm glad I watched. Quite a unique series I like Jason Bateman. Ironically, Pedro Pascal was initially going to play Clark.

I could see Pedro being a good Clark, but I think there's more power with a straight actor in that role. Both Jason and David, who are perfectly cast, discuss in interviews the question of their characters being gay. IMO, it's too bad the question will remain and linger on. I didn't need the relationship be defined in black and white, but the story would have been far more interesting, perhaps more complex, if they acted out their curiosity, and let the chips fall where they fall. We could use a story like that between two "family" guys stuck in lonely, unfulfilling marriages, questioning a possible new excitement in their lives. Edited 23 hours ago by d.anders
