genomecop Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Was about to send someone on the site a 'gift' and it requires you to add you social security and or tax id. Seems totally unsafe. Thoughts? Luv2play 1

+ PhileasFogg Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I wouldn’t do it… We don’t know who owns it. I can’t think of a compelling reason like patriot act compliance or 1099 reporting….unusual
BeamerBikes Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I’m guessing it’s due to foreign ownership. Either they want to be 100% in compliance with some obscure IRS regulation OR it’s a European country thing. In Brazil, I couldn’t buy tickets to a New Year’s Eve party because I didn’t have a Brazilian Tax ID. We had a local friend who helped us. It’s not unusual in other countries to require tax ids for any commercial transaction. either way, agreed, I’d be less likely to “gift” a membership. also if you’re gifting a membership to an expired ad, it might be in bad form as the provider may be purposefully on hiatus. TonyDown Posted January 30 Posted January 30 It's a German owner, right? Are other Website like that? e.g. If someone in the UK has an Amazon wish list, does that require to attached your Tax ID # to support a wish list item?
