EZEtoGRU Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I saw no movies in 2025 unfortunately. I recently decided I wanted to see some of the Academy Award nominee movies in advance of the telecast. The only one currently available in my area was Marty Supreme with Timothee Chalamet, Gweneth Paltrow, Fran Dresher, Sandra Berhard, & Kevin O'Leary (yes the shark!). I knew virtually nothing about the film before seeing it so I went in with no preconceived ideas. Spoiler Alert: you get to see Chalamet's (or his stand-in's) butt for a while. I won't go into a lengthy review. Know that it is a long movie at 2 hours 29 minutes. It was engaging for most of the film. The actor's performances were good but not great. Chalamet has been nominated for an Oscar but I would be surprised if he wins. Same with the film overall. It was good but not fantastic. It won't win Best Picture...but it is worth seeing IMHO. skynyc Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I don't see a lot of movies, but my gang went to this on Christmas. It's a lush, full production. And he gives a strong performance as a totally amoral Ping Pong savant. I think he might win, simply because many think he was robbed last year for his portrayal of Bob Dylan. I recommend the film as an entertainment...a dark comedy. But whereas I'll often watch movies again when I come across them on TV...I never need to see this one again. + Just Sayin and thomas 2
d.anders Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I saw it last night on HBO, and I enjoyed it. Lots of great production qualities. I thought Timothee Chalamet was brilliant. The movie is mainly about Marty. It's an interesting story with many fascinating characters. The cameos were also interesting, but seemed a bit odd to me. Did they add anything to this story? The filming of the actual ping-pong matches was amazing. I thought it was fun to watch Gwyneth Paltrow have an affair with Chalamet. Chalamet's nude scenes were also interesting. He was standing naked during the bathtub scene for quite a long time. And there's a real treat for those who enjoy a spanking fetish on twink ass. Do I want to see this movie again? Maybe. Marty, the character, is a bit much to take, but there is something sweet, endearing, and sexy about Chalamet's hustler performance. Who here doesn't love a hustler-with-a-dream story? + Just Sayin, thomas and + sf westcoaster 1 1 1
+ Lucky Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I agree that Chalamet was brilliant...but obnoxious! I enjoyed the movie. I do wonder how the ping pong scenes were done. MikeBiDude 1

pleasureseeker Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Glad you guys liked it so much. I found it tedious as hell, endless and all characters extremely unlikable, except maybe for the Gwyneth Paltrow character, straight out of a Tennessee Williams play. Amazing cinematography, sets and costumes though. + EVdude 1
