From the review comments, many seem to be from fans of the book, and a big part of the market for gay romances consists of straight women.

There seems to be a lot of online chatter about this show. This happens when people start talking en masse about surprise hits.

It's not an HBO production. They purchased it from Canada, already made. I first heard HBO was down on gay content, losing gay subscribers. Then they went and bought this.

I would love to know the numbers. Lots of fans of the book, I'm hearing. It has young people appeal, much like Call Me By Your Name did. I don't see straight males watching this, especially sports fans. However, young males and females, adult females, and all the gay market could make up for the straight male loss. Like I said, I would find the numbers quite fascinating.

Closeted males in professional sports is a very hot topic. And the two lead actors, particularly the guy playing the Russian, are amazing. Both men have sexy bodies and great asses. Of course, I would love to see cock, but I doubt that will happen. No Cooper Koch here.

I have Equation to an Unknown.  It's porn, not a movie.  It's beautiful porn, and it was recently wonderfully restored.  It surprises me that I like it so much, given how young the actors are it's like seeing Nephews fuck, which  99% of the time I find unwatchable.  But it's such a beautiful porn, I get sucked in every time.

I just watched the episode 3 as well. I guess the story line focuses more on the conventional type of gay men relationships. Like the casual sex/hook ups for Hollander and Rosanov, now the discreet relationship for Scott and Kip. Haven’t read the novel, nor plan to because I’m not into reading books lol. I hope that thru the next episodes, it wouldn’t be just focused on the “visuals” aka sex scenes, which I know sells the series, but also, on more impactful gay relationship issues. And as I’m saying that, I doubt that it would be the case for this show lol… or any other gay men themed shows. Btw, my bias so far is Kip/Christopher. She's all over YouTube. She's not what I expected.

I decided I did not enjoy Episode 3. I absolutely love Francois Arnaud, especially when he came out as bisexual. At least I read that somewhere. IMO, he's a major star, or deserves to be treated like one. I did not like the "let's cram everything into one episode" approach for this special actor. I also thought this fantasy side story was too limp and too cliche. What famous, wealthy hockey star is going to instantly fall in love with some minimum wage barista? I don't care how cute the service guy might be (I think Francois is much hotter), the story just screams stereotype, and bad, unbelievable cheese.

I guess I don't mind there being a third closeted gay man on the team, but in reality, how possible is this? It's way too soon for this show to jump the shark.

If there is a third gay on the team, and he happens to be Francois Arnaud, I can think of so many deeper and more intricate ways to tell that story. This one seemed too much like girlie teenage bubblegum.

Now with 4.2k raters, at 8.6.  62.2% give it a 10.  The rating is dragged down by 7% giving it a 1.  Gay shows often attract homophobes who purposely give it a 1 rating.  Also, the ratings from the U.S. and Canada are 8.9 and 8.8, respectively, so the more negative ratings must be coming heavily from outside North America.
