I have discussed this with my cardiologist as recently as my last visit. I have been on them for about 8 years and starting two years ago he suggested that he might take me off them.
He said the evidence was mixed but as I got older they may be less useful. I’m 78 and he said that by 80 he would recommend stopping taking baby aspirin.
My younger sister went on them before me but her doctor took her off them a  couple of years ago.

My cardiologist just told me the latest research is more refined. After 70 it doesn't appear to help. But for people 50-70 with a calcium score over 100, it appears beneficial...i.e. prevents 3 heart attacks for every stroke it causes.
