Last week, longtime producer Lorne Michaels, 80, said there will be some cast-changes made to SNL before it premieres for its 51st Season. He didn't say who will be leaving, but indicated there will be 'some'. (It's been long rumored Bowen Yang won't be returning, but Yang responded with 'no comment' when asked this summer).

Today, DEADLINE reported that supporting player DEVON WALKER has been let go after three seasons with the show.  Stay tuned - more to follow...

Walker joined in 2022 as a featured player and was promoted last season ahead of the show’s 50th anniversary.

Season 50 Cast Members and my thoughts on them, we'll see who else goes:

Repertory players

Michael Che - I doubt Lorne would shake up Weekend Update, best part of the show
Mikey Day - He's good but been on for awhile so he might go
Andrew Dismukes - He's not overly funny, he might go
Chloe Fineman - I'd be ok with her gone
Heidi Gardner - She's good, keep please
Marcello Hernández - Love him my Latino boytoy, better keep him
James Austin Johnson - He plays Trump so he's safe
Colin Jost - See Che
Michael Longfellow - Same pretty much as Dismukes, think one will stay of the two
Ego Nwodim - She had a breakout season this past year, I hope she stays
Sarah Sherman - She is growing on me more and more, hope she stays
Kenan Thompson - He'll never leave but when he does he'll announce it before the season for a farewell season
Devon Walker - Gone, not a huge impact on show, they'll bring in another young black guy to replace him
Bowen Yang - As stated above he's one I really could see go as he's getting very popular

Featured players

Ashley Padilla - Her or Wickline will just stay probably
Emil Wakim - Stay please
Jane Wickline - See Padilla

I really enjoy Dismukes with Austin Johnson in their musical pairings. Wickline's the most vulnerable. I can't see her "opposites" dating gag with Hernandez being enough to warrant keeping. That 1 and done lady from the year before, Troast, was a disappointing jettison, IMO. Walker gone is no loss. He was dreadful in his rookie season, so I was surprised he lasted as long as he did. Rumor has it that Jost and Che are both leaving, and Longfellow will take over "Update". He's like a far less witty Norm McDonald, but time could change that. Yang is the cast anchor, essentially the current McKinnon of the bunch.

All in all my biggest problem with the show is the atrocious writing. It's such a letdown to have a cast that is ostracized for being forgettable and irrelevant when in reality the scripts are just largely trash. It's nice to have a guest host work wonders with what little they're given, like Cumberbatch or Chalamet. My most disliked part of the show are a tie between those three agitating "don't destroy" dudes and the pre-taped musical segment, typically a rap, and is never amusing. It would be so nice to have a sketch comedy show have at least one hilarious scene per week instead of maybe one per season.

I love every actor in this video. This is hilarious. Sarah Sherman was great in this.

Emil is one hot guy - very camera friendly and easy on the eyes. They should've made more use of him in sketches, so he could really show his talents in sketch comedy. I hope someone realizes how good he is and offers him a role in something.

He was one of your picks you didn’t want to see leave.

Eh, I said stay but I was fine with either or. I do like to see people get at least two seasons so they get a chance to grow on you.

Wow, that went from Stay please to eh, pack your bags real fast. 😂

Has Lorne been getting ideas from the current season of 'Big Brother' ??? That's the show where they got rid of all the hot hunks up front this summer (Adrian, Zae, Zack, Riley - though he's not my taste). Marcello better watch his sexy ass - he's the last of the 'hot young hunks' on the current season of SNL (in other words:  Jost, Yang, Thompson and Che have nothing to worry about - they  are neither young nor a hot hunk).

I forgot to reply to this. I watch SNL every week and I do agree it's not as good as it used to be. I watch still because when they do have a really funny sketch it's worth it. Plus I'm old now, nothing else going on in my life Saturday late night. 😅

I remember the campus-wide mania for this brand new, radical show in my second year of college, which was in the same time zone as NY, and I saw it live for the first five of 50 years... jeez.

Some contract players who got Star careers started there still do excellent work today. Others have faded, some disappeared, some died too soon. Some got weird. It's show biz.

Most episodes now, I use the >> button a lot.

I'm surprised that with the fleeting nature of fresh comedy, the network hasn't moved Lorne aside for someone younger.

Well he created the show so I think they'd have to buy him out. Not like they can fire him.

Not since Leslie Jones has SNL hired someone up there in age as a new cast member. This is badly lacking. One thing I like about this change is I (hopefully) won't have to see the Please Don't Destroy crap anymore, since one of them left for greener pastures, and one is now a full-time cast addition.

Years ago, the show had multiple musical guests. It would be nice to see two different acts performing 2 different genres, one song a-piece, rather than one artist playing a hit, followed by a likely dud. Also, can it be possible to pull the plug on the canned laughter before the cold open? A great idea for a sketch would be to have these four and a half new cast members form a think-tank, calling it "Making Saturday Night Live Better", or emsnilb, for short. I'm laughing already.
