Escorts As Video Stars

What do you guys think of Escorts who also star in videos? Does it create a better appeal for hiring an escort or does it detract from the discreteness that is often demanded from an escort? Also, does it usually raise the price that specific escort quotes for himself or does it matter?

 

For myself, I have been in videos and I also direct them, albeit the ones that I direct are often my own amateur films. Nevertheless, I have always done the videos in order to heighten my own business by getting more people to look at my video pics and hopefully hire me. To me, being in videos or making them, is another way of marketing myself. Other escorts do it in order to make a fast buck here or there. That's not my style. If I have to pay for magazines like NEXT or HX or even Unzipped to display my advertising, it makes more sense for me to appear in videos and sell my image that way. Even though I may not make as much money from the videos, especially if I appear in someone else's video, at least it helps market my name and image.

 

I certainly understand those escorts who do not show their faces, and thereby are not inclined to be in videos. On the other hand, I cannot comprehend why escorts who do show their faces, on the web or in magazines, do not enter the video field. What better way is there to show off your goods?

I think there is a certain additional excitement in hiring a video star as an escort. The more well known a porn star is, moreover, the more he is generally able to charge for his services. So of course I think it is good advertising for the escort to have his name as widely known as possible and staring in videos is another way to accomplish this.

I personally would never hire an escort unless I was specifically turned on by him, porn star or not. But I have to admit deep down it is nice to be able to say that I have slept with Big Star X or Y.

Well I as an escort have a different opinion on marketing myself via porn.

I have done several videos and have worked in that industry in various different media, under a different name. Why, you ask, well for starters I did the porn stuff for the fun of it, no other reason. I choose not to market myself via porn, because I think most people have preconceived notions of what a porn star is going to be like, whether good or bad. I would prefer to be known by my great track record, rather than a character I've portrayed on film.

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, obviously porn stars have a market appeal, and typically charge higher rates. I have for my own reasons decided to keep the two separate.

Point one is that someone who's starred in significant porn videos (particularly Falcon and so forth) can definitely charge more than an escort who doesn't. The reasons are fairly intuitive: (a) a client may fantasize about the video star and seek him out, (b) a client who sees someone on video, or even in print magazines has a very good idea of what to expect when he meets the escort, and © there's something satisfying (to many at least), of being able to view your video or magazine and reminisce about the time you had with the porn star.

Another point of fact is that some escorts do porn purely to attract more clients and keep their rates higher. I have talked to more than one escort who states the video money isn't that good, but that it's powerful (free) advertising.

That being said, being in videos immortalizes the fact that one had sex for a living, which bothers some escorts. I have talked with other escorts who don't do videos for this reason. A good example is the escort who does this type of work part-time to pay for his college education.

In conclusion, full-time escorts often see working in porn videos as a great advantage in their business, perhaps the main reason to do the videos. Part-time escorts who are in it for the short hall are more willing to sacrifice the potentially higher fees for the greater anonymity.

To my knowledge,I have been with four escorts who have done porn videos.In no case did I hire them because of their videos.In fact,I have only seen ONE of the four on video. I actually don't watch much porn. But all of my escorts have been reviewed on this site and those reviews and the escorts websites have been the deciding factors. I would not pay higher rates for someone who has done videos. I look at the rate and at the escorts reviews and pics and then decide.

I think porn defintely adds to the excitement of unbridled sex for the escort as well as the client. While I am slated to do a photo shoot for BOUND & GAGGED Magazine in NYC, I have yet to do a video but would love the opportunity!

I think you are going to find that the answer to your question depends on personal preferences. Some people are going to like the allure of meeting a "star" while other might be a little intimidated by the experience.

As far as my own preferences go, appearing in a video would neither enhance nor detract from my decision to hire. I have never seen a video that has truly motivated me to the point that I just have to have that person (although Jeremy Penn, Mike Branson, Derek Cameron, Lucas Ridgeston and Ion Davidof came really close )Again just speaking for myself, the increase in price coupled with the (perhaps undeserved) perception of an attitude problem would probably keep me away.

While many variables go into the overall decision process (rates, looks, reviews, etc.) - (generally)the most common factor someone considers in hiring an escort is also the same for friendship and companionship, PROXIMITY.

In all honesty, if you are an escort and have no qualms about showing your face, there is no better way of marketing yourself. Potential clients get a chance to see how you perform and frankly, there is no better publicity. However, I don't think this entitles you to inflate your prices because "you are a porn star"!. For whatever reason, so called "porn people" (star does not seem appropriate to me....just because you sucked dick or got fucked in public doesn't automatically make you a star. Jeff Stryker,Ryan Idol, a very few others are stars....the others are merely bit players).

I've been with porn stars, and I've also been with "civilians". With a porn star, you may have seen your escort perform and have some level of comfort that he'll perform for you but that may not be the case -- just as with civilian escorts who may or may not live up to expectations. (I will say I've been extremely lucky with both!)

 

Talvin DeMachio and Michael Vincenzo are brutally honest about the fact that they only do porn as advertising. The pay for porn is too low for anyone to do it for any other reason. (Aside from the thrill of doing it, I suppose.)

 

As for cost, if a guy is worth what he charges (in my eyes) I will hire him. Otherwise, not. My current fave "civilian" charges a little higher rate than normal but he's worth it so I pay it and tip him generously.

 

It all boils down to personal preferences.

I did not know this issue would bring such a great response, and I am grateful for it.

 

Let me first say that in terms or prices, I have not raised my prices in the three years that I have escorted. My rates are considerably lower than most in my NJ/NYC area, and I also provide great travel rates. With that said, I wanted to make it clear that for me and probably a number of other escorts, being in porn is merely an advertising ploy, not a way to justify raisining prices. However, there seems to be a notion or belief that if you are a porn star, then your rates will be high. This is certainly not the case with me, and not with some others that I know.

 

Principally, rates are based upon location, age, body, and what you do. I know an escort who dabbled a little in porn, but raised his rates when he could not handle the numbers of customers that were coming to him via his web site and other publicity. Yet, the perception of porn star = higher rates still persists in our society. The only way for an escort to counter such incorrect associations is to market himself differently and outspokenly. It is not that I am speaking against higher rates, but that I believe that there are many porn stars out there with reasonable rates of about $200 an hour or so.

 

I wonder if there has been any studies done on escort rates and categories of escorts.

I agree totally that just having done a video doesn't make one a star. As I mentioned in an earlier response, one has to be with a major company or video (i.e. Falcon). I don't think that doing a video with a B-grade production will allow one to increase one's rates much if any. Individuals have different preferences as to whether or not they like to hire porn stars, but the fact of the matter is, as anyone who reads the reviews on this website can attest, that true porn stars do generally charge more than non-porn stars. Again, this is with the caveat that having done a B-grade video doesn't make one a porn star.

 

Another advantage of hiring a porn star, at least in my mind, is that the client who hires a porn star can feel pretty damned confident he's not hiring a cop.

As a few people have noted here, one advantage of hiring a porn star--or even starlet--is that you know what you are likely to get, both visually and in terms of activity: if he gets gang-banged on celluloid he can't say, "I don't get fucked" with a straight face (bad pun--I know). However, for me this is a reason to avoid porn actors, because I don't like to know exactly what I am getting; I think a lot of the excitement comes from curiosity about what the escort will actually look like and do. I don't want to know where the birthmark is on his ass before I undress him, or be waiting for his trademark tics while he's getting it on. I don't want to keep running through my head a scenario that I've already watched, especially since I'm likely to feel self-conscious about the fact that I can't compete with the hunk he was enjoying it with so much on the video. I really prefer something like the picture on Rick Munroe's website, which tells me just enough to know that he really is sexy but not enough that I could identify him in the shower at the gym.
