Wow, the Team USA beat Canada for the men’s hockey gold medal!  First the US women beat Canada, then the men, a disheartening 1-2 punch for our northern neighbor.  Interesting coincidence, both games were decided 2-1 in overtime.

Probably because Canada was without Shane Hollander Sidney Crosby.  Thank God the disruption of network TV is finally over.  The summer olympics are just a colossal bore, but the winter olympics are a colossal bore that gets in the way of my TV viewing, which is unforgivable.

Johnny Gaudreau, who played for Team USA in a number of international competitions, was killed by a drunk driver in August 2024.  His teammates honored him by bringing his two kids on the ice for the team photo, a beautiful but heartbreaking moment …

As are spring training, the all-star game, and the world baseball classic.  And the older I get, the actual sport itself.  I enjoy baseball nowadays by jumping between boxscores and following MLB storylines.  The last game I watched was Jasson Dominguez's debut.  (I might've watched his next game, too.  I don't remember.)

Watching a game is boring to me now, though admittedly I've never seen one since the rules were implemented to shorten games.  I root for the Yankees to be competitive enough to hold my interest until the fall TV season starts, knowing they will inevitably end their season in a way that would be really annoying if I cared more. If they ever DO exceed my expectations I'll be thrilled, but my life won't be improved in any appreciable way.

My only consoling thought is that it was the end of a long drought for the US men’s hockey team to win gold at the Olympics. For Canada they have won it in recent history twice. I think they said it was 40 years for the Americans.
And our superstar, Sydney Crosbie, the captain, was injured in the semifinals and couldn’t play. He scored the winning goal in overtime in a previous Olympics to win gold.

Team USA won the men’s hockey gold exactly 46 years to the day after winning gold in Lake Placid.  I don’t follow hockey at all, don’t really have a dog in this fight, but I’m happy that the Americans were able to honor their late teammate Johnny Gaudreau and include his children in their celebration.  It meant the world to his family.

Someone here said he looks like Connor Storie of Heated Rivalry. Kinda think so. It's a nice fantasy.  Thought Ilia is sooooo young, not my usual age preference at all. But Jeez, what a pretty dude!

.......saw a tictoc interview with him; don't know where it was from, where he said the following:

Everyone thinks I'm gay; (I'm not,) because I've never been known to be in a romance. The fact is I am just too busy with skating to date.

I liked his answer. It was very straightforward and clear. Good for him. Hope he finds a nice girl.

....😭😭😭😭
