Carlos Alcaraz repeated as Wimbledon champ today.

His level of play was incredible.  He already won the 2024 French Open.

I'm looking forward to watching him play the US Open.

Besides his great game he is quite nice to look at.  😍

The image is from the AP London article on Carlos' victory.

Carlitos (he prefers either Carlitos or Charlie since his dad is also named Carlos) is one helluva big match player.  Yet despite winning 2 Slams in just 5 weeks, he's still ranked #3 behind Sinner and Novak because of inconsistent results.

For example, he lost his first match at Queens to Jack Draper, who lost in the 1st round at Wimby.  So don't bet the milk money on the Chuckster in smaller tournaments, but in Slams the guy is NAILS.

It makes sense. As a top ranked player who doesn't need the smaller tournament prize money why pour so much energy and effort into them. I'm sure plenty of players just use a round or two to keep their game sharp and then don't put much effort after that.

After Jannik Sinner destroyed 2-time Roland Garros finalist Casper Ruud 6-0, 6-1 in the quarters, the Italian looked like a tennis version of The Terminator, yet Carlos handled him convincingly in the Rome final.  Alcaraz has now won 4 straight against the world #1, and has become the odds-on favorite to win Roland Garros (which started today).

Let’s see if King Carlos can repeat as RG champion.  He has a cupcake draw until the final.  Then again, for Carlos every Grand Slam is kinda cupcakey until the semis/final.

I hope they both make the RG final. Sinner looked incredible in Rome considering he’d been out for 3 months. Carlitos may still win, but I think it will be a battle, hopefully one that goes the distance.
